Title Text: but what about the tort--I mean cake
Quick, Keene, start an insurrection! It might prove a useful distraction!
Or have little demon buddy take your place, he seems to enjoy the punishments.

Demon Breel sure loves torture, doesn't he?

Okay yes... without the hat things are going to be more difficult... So that's not great

The place of nightmares is no world of dreams,
Keene’s power is removed from his head.
He’s plunged into a world of suffering
and he’ll soon be dreaming of his bed.
His little companion has returned,
eager to share in all the harsh suffering.
Shades of hopelessness shifting by;
an eternity of boredom, faith withering.
He’s not given up yet, our Ferret;
he still has hope, however forlorn.
It won’t last, the nightmare rules,
and his connection home is torn...

I'm not sure what he's referring to falling for?

The little Demon is the one who led Keene to Eudoant.

Did he? That isn't really obvious between the 2/02 and 2/05 strips - at least, not obvious enough to really qualify for a callback.

That was the impression I got. I could be wrong.

I'm increasingly questioning the nature of that little demon. How could something so cheerful and (apparently) harmless be in this place? What's more, he doesn't appear to be bound or restricted in any way. In fact, I don't think Eudoant even noticed him at all. Keene is the only one so far to acknowledge the little demon's presence.

Neel ain't doin' nothin wrong, he's just blissfully unaware of how mortals work cause he's a demon! If he encourages you to fall into a giant pit of spikes, that just means he likes you and wants you to enjoy yourself! He doesn't know any better, he just wants to be a friend! (probably just so he can go to the mortal realm but I'm sure he wouldn't do any harm that's beyond himself )
Re: 2018/02/14 - To Cap It All Off
Yeah, I also don't get the impression that the dino-demon had anything to do with it. It would be one thing if it told Keene to see Eudoant, but it was just along for the ride. I think Keene has to be referring to something else.
Also, without his cap, it would appear that the chain cuffs are too heavy for Keene. ;.;

Um... if people are in that realm, I'm pretty darned sure they're ALREADY "astray." X3Argent wrote:To lead people astray, obviously.leinglo wrote:I'm increasingly questioning the nature of that little demon. How could something so cheerful and (apparently) harmless be in this place?
Re: 2018/02/14 - To Cap It All Off
They're certainly "lost"...
Eudoant's interest in Keene's hat suggests that our ferret might have some hope of escaping the chain gang. I'm intrigued that something connected with his cap might lead him to a transfer to the demon-deer's apartment (wonder what Eudoant sleeps on. Nails? Wonder if he eats...ulp!).
...and what sinister rollicking occurs after curfew? what's Keene supposed to do? How?

Wait...no fun, no freedom? As harmless as it may look like, I think that is a kind of hell, which really is fearfull
Compliments to Rick for that.

That's just the thing, it hasn't really led Keene anywhere, or offered to, or given directions, or done much of anything beyond simply follow Keene around.Argent wrote:To lead people astray, obviously.leinglo wrote:I'm increasingly questioning the nature of that little demon. I assumed it led him to Eudoant because there's really no other in-strip explanation of how he got there.leinglo wrote:That's just the thing, it hasn't really led Keene anywhere, or offered to, or given directions, or done much of anything beyond simply follow Keene around.
Re: 2018/02/14 - To Cap It All Off
Does there need to be an explanation? Can't Keene have simply ran into Eudoant as he wandered around aimlessly and decided to ask for directions from the first person he met here who actually seemed lucid? Keene certainly didn't seem terribly inclined to listen to the little shadow demon that immediately identified itself as Breel, called Keene daddy, and asked to be taken to Earth.Argent wrote:I assumed it led him to Eudoant because there's really no other in-strip explanation of how he got there.leinglo wrote:That's just the thing, it hasn't really led Keene anywhere, or offered to, or given directions, or done much of anything beyond simply follow Keene around.

In some ways, our little allosaur imp does seem to mirror Breel. Both latch on to Keene when he finds himself suddenly a stranger in a strange land. Both treat him with considerable touchy-feely affection and try to act as guide. Both get him to a "higher authority" to help with his agenda and, in certain respects, Eudoant appears as Pandemonium's dark sinister version of Cerberus.
I'm inclined to think the imp did escort Keene to Eudoant'. You gotta trust somebody, and Keene has plenty of experience dealing with demi-gods and other spiritual powers.
However, like Cerberus, who is a Heavenly being with Celestial powers and can sense disruption in her realm, Eudoant' as an Infernal creature may have detected Keene as different from the usual arrivals. So, leinglo, maybe he brought the ferret to his office/apartment without the imp playing a role. Clearly, Eudoant intends to stay involved with Keene because of some larger, unresolved question rather than just vanish, abandoning the poor ferret to an eternity of scut work.
...and the imp. Why doesn't he flit off? Well, he does hope Keene can get him to earth....does Pandemonium have procedures for how residents can return to earth just as Heaven does? Or are imps like "unBreel" barred from leaving the Infernal realm and need assistance to sneak out?
...and how the heck is Eudoant ever going to get that little nightcap to fit on his monstrous head ???

Oh no, the boss demon took off Keene's night cap. That's going to be a problem to be back in the temple... Eh, you're his slave now, Keene... What if you try to miss it, instead?

Hmm... I wonder if he needs the cap anymore. We saw Zach had magic powers after leaving the temple. Though that might have been for the sake of a callback joke.

counter-theory: It actually IS Breel. The forgotten took his form and possibly even ability to be seen by others, leaving Eudoant unaware of him. But Keene, having been present when Breel was taken, still retains an attachment allowing him to see him. and Breel has a vague familiarity with Keene and so was drawn to him.leinglo wrote:I'm increasingly questioning the nature of that little demon. and Yeah, It's probably not a coincidence Keene found Eudoant. He was heading to the city cause it was obvious, probably went to the busiest looking area of the city. and If you're a demon looking for souls you can trick into being your slave, wouldn't you go where lost souls are most likely to be?

Borderline embiggen...
I'm suspecting, Leinglo, that there are lots of these little dino-demons running around Pandemonium, and Eudoant, being some sort of official, regards them as minor irritants like mildly deranged field mice.

I just suspect that Keene will pass in that place for WEEKS while in the real world pass just few hours
