I mean, sure. Why would it be easy ?
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
Kinda makes you wonder how many others got this far. Must have been able to succeed, if there were four scrolls left, though judging by the broken pot, someone else had trouble.

“What is, has been before”
is the truth of what was before;
Someone was cursed way back
judging by the shattered pot, Mac.
Your choice is one from four
answers laid out on the floor.
One the spell reverses
the others? All new curses
Which will you choose?
Will you win or lose?
And will you learn, sir
that, to win, you need fur?

If those scrolls are millennia-old, I doubt Thomas would be able to read them even if he could get one opened safely.

Given where the temple was moved from, it's possible that the scrolls are written in Arabic.

Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
The issue here being, if that is the case, it would be ancient Arabic, and it likely would be far removed from what we would consider modern Arabic. In fact, most languages over 2k years old are technically dead languages, because even if you could understanding them in writing, you wouldn't be able to actually speak the words, as there's no one alive who speaks that particular dialect anymore and writing hardly provide pronunciation instructions. Ancient Egyptian is a good example. Nobody on Earth knows what that language sounded like, even if we can read it.Bandit1990 wrote:Given where the temple was moved from, it's possible that the scrolls are written in Arabic.
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
No. It would not be Arabic. It would be hieroglyphics. Maybe even cuneiform.
Or perhaps, whatever language Satau was speaking.

I didn't think of that.
Hey, here's a fun fact, Akkadian and Arabic are both in the Semitic language family.

It would be just like Pete to have those scrolls be utterly useless

So, Peanut is the Puzzle Master, and he knows Akkadian, so if he just waits until Peanut gets there and doesn't trash all the scrolls...

I never expected scrolls need to be eaten, I always thought you need to read them.
And what if... Thomas wasn't the first one there and the one working scroll has been eaten already. I mean, the jar isn't actually a jar anymore.

that depends on if this is a case of 'the counter-spell is the polar opposite of the base spell' or 'the counter-spell is an undo button for the base spell'. if it's the former, it could happen, but the later would only effect Thomas. Maybe King, but he's not here.Douglas Collier wrote:Imagine if Peanut read one of the scrolls and turned into a human.Argent wrote:So, Peanut is the Puzzle Master, and he knows Akkadian, so if he just waits until Peanut gets there and doesn't trash all the scrolls...

Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

All this slow passing are killing me. Is he gonna be human ever again?
Although him staying put as a camel and sticking together with Sofia would be adorably cute...
... wait. WHAT IF A TRUE LOVE KISS WOULD DISPELL THE CURSE??

THAT WOULD BE SO CUUUUTE

Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
Considering when it was though i would say its likely far older than Arabic. Perhaps even Hieroglyphic... I suppose it would really depend on when the gold was added and by whom. I could also totally see Keene distributing this gold around the world in order to turn everyone into an animal. EQUALITY!!!!Bandit1990 wrote:Given where the temple was moved from, it's possible that the scrolls are written in Arabic.

Something for the final season of Housepets!, the TV series.
Then after the credits roll, we see Pete stumbling out of his bedroom and mumbling something about his weird dream to Dragon.
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
He's not eating it; the scroll fell apart as soon as he picked it up. (I'm guessing that the scroll was face-down and he picked it up to turn it over so that he could read it.)Render wrote:I never expected scrolls need to be eaten, I always thought you need to read them.

That's a curious story about the gold origin. Eheh, a deal, yeah... For you, Pete. Don't deal with the demigods. How merciful! That's so sadistic of you, instead, Pete... The poor camel Thomas is going to need lot of time to do that without human hands, indeed. There are four scrolls, and they're all so old that breaks into pieces easily.
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
Yeah, Cesco, what blockhead would loan piles of gold to our nefarious gryphon? Who'd have that to loan? Keene Milton?
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
Given that this apparently corresponds to the missing billions from the Milton fortune (remember where Thomas originally got the map), I suspect it was Henry Milton.NHWestoN wrote:Yeah, Cesco, what blockhead would loan piles of gold to our nefarious gryphon? Who'd have that to loan? Keene Milton?

Looks like he isn't adjusted to the new body. Maybe Sofia can show him the right way to flip over delicate parchment without taking a bite out of it.
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
Sophie does seem fairly well read ... In North Africa, there are a number of folk cures where the patient eats a healing charm or incantation written on paper, dried palm, or a kind of parchment. Somehow, I don't think that device is built into Pete's spell.
Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
I already see a way to solve the problem. Use the 'Split' in his hooves to gently grab one.TeflonCougar wrote:Looks like he isn't adjusted to the new body. Maybe Sofia can show him the right way to flip over delicate parchment without taking a bite out of it.
Then again, this is Thomas we're talking about. He's not the brightest Bulb in the Crayon Drawer.

Re: 2017/11/15 - Careful Now
That actually brings up a point. If Henry was the One who offered the Gold, that would mean he also made Pete make the Gold not be touched by HUMAN Hands.Argent wrote:Given that this apparently corresponds to the missing billions from the Milton fortune (remember where Thomas originally got the map), I suspect it was Henry Milton.NHWestoN wrote:Yeah, Cesco, what blockhead would loan piles of gold to our nefarious gryphon? Irony you can cut with a fork, that.
That means he knew full well Pete would booby-trap the Gold if a human were to touch it. It's also WHY he wrote on the Map to the Ferrets, to never Tell anyone about it! The Gold was meant for his Ferret Family! Not his biological children!
It's also why he bought the Temple back to Babylon Gardens! He was secretly bringing the Gold back for his true children, The Ferrets!
...And because he knew how STUPID Simon can get. The message was Clear on the map, 'Do not Reveal.' Simon reveals it anyway, and almost makes the whole country go on a crazy treasure hunt for cursed Gold that's no longer where the map says it is. Had he not Moved the Temple, Simon would have cursed so many people to be animals, weither they want to or not!
