I see. There wasn't a link to a video sample like Crow, so I assumed it's not appropriate for this site, hence me not checking it.

There is also the music animation to a song by Zektbach that reminds me of the style, but it's not appropriate either, so I didn't mention it here earlier

Huh. So basically 12 was, and still kind of is, regarded as a "perfect" number and 13 is considered lacking and unusual.

I read somewhere that 13 was considered unlucky because when they used to tie the hangman's noose they'd wrap the rope around 13 times. No idea if that's true or not though.

I kinda like the number 13 because it's said to be unlucky, which makes it special. I always look forward to the Friday the 13ths in a year, because they're special days.

Also, the number 13 has been a part of my student life so far.

13 was my number for a while when I played hockey. I'm pretty obsessed with the number I like the superstition around it.

So, some time ago, the suits for the Might Morphin' Power Rangers reboot movie were revealed.
Image
First off, I want to say that I like how these look! Really cool battle armor, in my opinion. The makers of the movie stated that they wanted to redesign the suits to look extraterrestrial in origin, which is what they pretty much what they were at the beginning. Granted, the Morphing Grid isn't exclusive to non-Earth locations, but they were granted by an extraterrestrial. They are what I would imagine power armor to look like, for the most part. I also think that the morphers look pretty cool, with what looks like the slight hint of their respective ranger color. I am greatly impressed. Main nitpick really is the helmet designs; black/blue and yellow/pink look too similar to the other, with red looking like the only truly unique look.

However, despite all of this gushing, I do have this bigger issue; it's cool, but I really don't see these as "Power Rangers." They remind me too much of what I would see of space soldiers in most sci-fi games. Okay, it's incredibly unfair to say because I grew up with the original, so I have a pretty bad bias. I've heard some say that it looks more like Iron Man armor, which quite frankly isn't unexpected.

Also, I do worry about the movie. The directors stated that they were going for a more "mature" series for Rangers. See, Power Rangers was always a little kids show, which I was when it premiered. That set me as a fan, even after all of these years. I've been off on the series as of late, but I still have fond memories, even if the series is as cheesy as any other 90's series. The directors also stated that their target audience would be more towards teens. This could either be good or bad, as it could be a much smarter take (not to say that the original didn't sometimes push good messages), or be needlessly dark. Could easily be worse, I've already reviewed Power/Rangers, though sometimes dark can be done well. I'm just no longer the target audience, so this will be a new experience.

Still, I hope to see it when it comes out, just to check if it's good. I have a feeling that online reviews will be all over the map when it comes out.

And besides, costumes look a lot better than the initial plans for the first MMPR movie.

my main issue is the glowing chest, it does make it seem too iron man-esque.

also, with the rest of the costumes looking not cheesey, the lips on the masks seem stupid to keep.

Chat Thread 42 The Answer To Life The Universe & Everything

Post by KingFan13 »

Oh, I guess we are on page 42 of Chat Thread 42 now. This page must contain the answer to Life The Universe & Everything!

I never really saw 13 as an unlucky number, it actually pops up many times in my life and I find it to be one of my lucky numbers.

Chat Thread 42 The Answer To Life The Universe & Everything

Post by KingFan13 »

I've noticed recently that I've picked up the bad habit of using certain words I can't mention here where I shouldn't. I need to stop doing that.

Luckily, this forum has a great word filter that results in wonderful things like this...

Bicycle Repair Man
I'm a loaf of bread with no raisins
bubblegum
perfectly wonderful person
Rasputin
rooster
I love you
nice person
an incredibly interesting anecdote
kitty

I wouldn't even say half of what I said there, just wanted to see the forum's beautiful word filter.

It's amusing, but I'm sure that can get confusing at times. Wonder what the reasons are for this method of filtering instead of the typical asterisk obliteration.

The best solution is to just not use swear words.

Also, please don't tempt/abuse the word filter!

Well, aside from the amusing aspect, it's more of a deterrent than just using asterixes and it's also more effective at obfuscating the bad word that was used.

Well the most effective would be to just use **** no matter how many letters the word is.

I'm 95% sure Rick does it just because it amuses him. *giggles*

Heh, recently I posted the name of a Japanese song in the Rate what the user above is listening to, and I never really noticed that the Japanese word had a swear word in it, so it became this:
Rhythm Heaven The Best+ OST - READ HOUSEPETS beaa (Broken-hearted Bear

First time I heard of a sad song in a Rhythm Heaven game
Both me and Superstar were so confused at first xD

Filters can be amusing, but I think that the asterisks make things look a lot worse. For example, a mild swear may have the same number of letters as a strong one. Using the asterisk makes nearly every sentence with that censor look so much worse, in my opinion. At least the "switch" makes for amusing, child-like replacements.

One exception, though. I recall someone really pouring their burdens out, and seeing "milk and cookies" in their rant was very off-putting. Now, I won't ever intentionally break the rule, but letting someone let it out in their own words sometimes works better.

Also not saying that the filters be removed, otherwise this place will quickly become obnoxious, just saying how that one instance turned out.

I think this way of filtering is far more amusing, and it's harder to tell what the word is. It would also make any people who come on the forums just to cause trouble and make people angry the opposite, seeing someone saying milk and cookies and saying what a great person you are while trying to insult you makes their insult sort of useless useless.

Wow, open-distance learning is a very odd thing for me.

The university I registered at conducts most of its courseworks and discussion online, and I just has a cursory glance at the forums... It's pretty much Facebook+Housepets forums+learning portal. After going through 22 years of learning in a classroom environment, it's rather odd that you could just discuss the answers to the assignments given with the other students that openly, and have the tutor watching from above >_<

Can't say I hate it though. In fact, given how much I spend my time online nowadays, it fits me perfectly. Morning, play games and other stuffs; night, answering discussion questions. I think I can live with that

There are some words that I, myself, don't really consider swears, but then again my judgement of how offensive a word is has been skewed somewhat by the depravity of the internet.

Apparently I tend to say muffins and cookies a lot, and I've actively been trying to avoid saying it here.

Being in the military for the short 4.5 months that has passed has completely changed my usage of swearing. For instance, I find very little of it to be even remotely rude in daily conversation. Its just the vernacular now. It's weird.

Most of what's considered vulgar is culturally conditioned. The worst that one person can say could very likely be the weakest for another. As for me, well, two years in a high-stress kitchen finally broke my barriers, and frankly, I'm not thrilled about that. I'm also significantly less patient and a lot more snarky/hostile to a few people. I'll be honest, I'm surprised it took that long.

Well, I did hear before that swearing/shouting curse words can help you handle pain better, and that people who swear instead of just bottling it up when angry tend to live longer, so it's a plus. I pity my mum though, lately I curse a lot when something fell off my hands or I hurt myself (which admittedly did help in venting those pent-up emotions and anger), but she herself swears when something didn't go her way, so we compromised ;P

I am in no way advocating swearing or curse words, especially in polite company or in situations where it would be rude, like in this forum. Just saying that cursing might help with life
