Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho'(though) the soldiers knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
All of your pets are adorable.
These are mine; sort of. the first pet here passed away last year.
Right now this is the only dog I have; her name is lilly and the sweetest and most stubborn pet
Though this puppy isn't mine, she is my sisters and I am her dog sitter

Here's an update on my dog, Toby. First, having a snooze, and then before and after a furcut. These were all sent to me by my mum.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
He was a boy. Although, Given his age then, I'm inclined to say old-man, but he would have disagreed. As for 'cute' that's a first, he's been called 'gorgeous' and/or 'handsome' before, but not cute. I suppose most people thought he was too big for 'cute'.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
Yes, about 4 years ago. It's a shame that most pets lives are shorter then our own.
Anyway, he's filled my childhood with many great memories and a lot of silly ones. For example, he used to look at my Mum or Dad through the back of a PC monitor and he'd wag when they looked at him. Even though he couldn't actually see if they were looking XD. Also, he'd sometimes lay down at the bottom of the stairs waiting for Mum to come back down. The rest of use had to step over him, because he filled the hallway from one side to the other, even curled up like in the above photo.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
Well since my mom got a new puppy (after our previous dog died), I figured I won't have to mourn the death of another pet until I'm in my 30s.
Re: Housepets! ...of yours
We have an 8-9 year old puggle nicknamed Tres. You say that like Trace or how it's spelled, he didn't mind either. His full name is "Tres Uno Dos Tres Tyrome [my last name here]". He's old, fat, and lazy, but is a lap warmer when it's cold. He doesn't act like it, but he loves is. We're the only people that feed him.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
I've always thought that domesticated animals have evolved to be cute when they need to be in order to attract us as humans to care for them...
Is that too crazy to be possible...Or am I on to something...?

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
No, you have the right idea, you're just looking at it the wrong way. Dogs (and cats and et cetera) can't 'choose' to evolve a certain way any more than any other species - rather it's human influence that has affected the evolution of the species after their domestication. Animals whose traits we find endearing we take better care of, they're given better chances to survive and procreate, and those traits are passed on. Over the generations the things most people find 'cute' are more common because we've given the animals who possess those traits an artificial advantage, even ones that might otherwise pose a natural disadvantage, just because of our influence.
Indeed, that's why there are certain common problems among various purebred animals, just because some traits are exacerbated to such an extent that it's actually unhealthy for the animal, but we keep artificially extending the trait's existence.
tl;dr: Pets are cute because we made them cute.

Did you know that it is actually considered polite to say "She" instead of "He" if your not aware of someone or something's gender?Amazee Dayzee wrote:And I just ruined the moment by getting her gender wrong.

Re: Housepets! ...of yours
It's funny, as far as dogs go, I find most people universally assume larger dogs to be male and smaller dogs to be female, even though it's obviously a 50/50 shot regardless of size.
And no, you're far from the first to make the mistake.

Can't say that I did. Though in high school I did take a business class where they taught you the correct term to use when addressing someone. I forgot all about it.The-J-Man wrote:Did you know that it is actually considered polite to say "She" instead of "He" if your not aware of someone or something's gender?Amazee Dayzee wrote:And I just ruined the moment by getting her gender wrong.

How is your neck not sore from sleeping like this, Toby?
Re: Housepets! ...of yours
Sophie is a pound-puppy, now in her fourteenth year. She's a classic mutt, a mix of dashund, Pomeranian, corgi, and a splash of red fox. Her right foot is missing, a birth loss, with just a small pad at the wrist where the foot failed to form. Even though she's a "tripod", she runs with remarkable speed and endurance, just weird mix of God's sense of humor and Sophie not understanding the laws of physiology. Being totally laid back, she's been a big help fostering dogs and kittens like her for the adoption shelters here. She just lost her feline pal, Andre, and her age is beginning to show, but she's a sweet, big hearted little gal.

The Housepets! Critter Thread
Time to show off our own house pets, fellas! My wife and I own a Pomeranian named Jake. It’s always a bundle of joy, waking up next to this critter. My wife is more enthusiastic of him than I am, buying him various pet treats, a chillow, a few chew toys, etc. It’s like having a baby once again, only hairier and naughtier. Such a blessing! How about you? What are your pet stories?

We have a ShiChi mix in addition to our pureblood Pekingese dog. Though he's more Shih Tzu than Chihuahua. His father was half Shih Tzu and Chihuahua and his mother was a pureblood Shih Tzu. He looks more likes a Shih Tzu but when he barks it like a Chihuahua you can't get to shut up. LOL

Condolences on your loss, Hawk, even from years ago. I still miss my cat after over a year gone.

How do you guys get pics to fit on the forum? I’m trying to share a good pic of my ferret but she’s apparently too big to be shared. She’s too cute of a naughty noodle to not get an audience
