How do you know it's spring?

Post by tychoaussie »

For me, it's when i see my first robin at the bird feeder.
That is the signal which tells me it MIGHT be spring.
The thing that tells me that it IS spring is when I pull the motorcycle out and ride it to work.

Image

One that happens, I follow it up shortly thereafter by taking the firebird off the trickle charger and starting it up.
However i don't really drive it very far until all the gravel, salt, and dirt are swept from the main roads. Otherwise,
it's just too darned slippery.

Once the car is out, and we clean up the yard, I go buy 5 gallons of race fuel and make me some 40:1 premix. Then, I pull
the WR500 out of the shed and prep it for some summer woods riding. I also summerize the snowmobile by draining the fuel
and fogging the engine. However this spring, I think I'll sell the snowmobile because I just don't use it enough anymore. That'll
free up a little bit of space for when I finish restoring the '83 Yamaha IT250K later this summer.

I usually just look at the calendar to know that its spring since I really wouldn't pay much attention otherwise.

I know it's Spring when we start getting good thunderstorms.

Well a thick winter jacket wasn't strictly required for safe travel outside, so there's that. :3

You know it's spring when everything is covered in yellow blanket of pollen while everyone else is still enjoying cold weather

Pollen is more annoying when I have to clean it off of my windshield than anything for me. And since my truck says outside, I usually have to clean it a lot.

Speaking of my truck, the past two days I've been driving with my window down. Less than a week ago we still had snow on the ground. I'd say spring has finally sprung, but it's not quite here yet. I still need a sweatshirt to stay outside.

Spring is coming when the bikes wake up from hibernation. :-)

I know it's spring when I stop needing to wear my hoodie, hat or gloves during the ride to work in the morning. Also, when I can leave my window open and turn my ceiling fan on.

Yesterday I heard the sparrows chirping from the hole in the vinyl siding of my house, about 32 feet above the ground. This is the fifth season they have done it and I really ought to get around to patching that hole. Plus I heard the robins chirping this morning. So thats another sign of spring.

I know its spring when I can bring out my lighter jackets and wear them because its not freezing cold anymore outside. That and when I am driving home at night, I can have the windows rolled down.

I know it's spring when outside temp's go from -20 F to 82 F in about 18 days. You don't need to look at a thermometer because the roads will shatter into pieces.

Replace -20 with +10 and you've got North Carolina!

Raleigh's dogwood pollen in the spring also turns my normally blue car into a bright green.

I know it is spring when I can go from a heavy winter coat to a light jacket, and when the temperature/weather gets rainy, I love the rain, always feels great, not too hot or cold.

Another way that I haven't seen in the past few years is when people stop putting out folding chairs to save the parking spots they dug out for their car. This was even more confusing when Wednesday was the first time I saw that this year.

And today, on the first day of spring, you know it is spring because it is nice and warm outside. :D

Oh, wait, it snowed today, so yeah...

It snowed, but we didn't get a lot. Thank GOD. I wanted all the snow to melt first before it snowed again! Space it out.

This, so much of this every year. We have house sparrows nesting under the roof tiles in three places. It's pretty much the same with all the neighbours, if not the entire district.

I also know it's spring when the clocks go forward. :(

Caught a cold front over the weekend. It returned to being wintertime. It'll probably be 60-80F tomorrow, also it's raining a lot more now and with every dark cloud cover comes the thought, "When do the tornado sirens go off?"
