Our military uses the 24 hour system.

Aircraft and airports all use the 24 hour system as far as I know. I'm pretty sure all armed forces use it too and some scientists. It's mainly used when it's important to know exactly what time you mean with no confusion.

I say we start 23 hour clocks yet keep the days 24 hours. That way, every day the time will be off by another hour.

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I have an old clock that belonged to my great grandmother that's now been passed down to me that got it's chimes out of whack with it's time by 90 minutes once. Fortunately I worked out how to fix it. I had to adjust the time fast enough that it didn't get a chance to bong so that the mechanisms could align again.

24-hour time is popular with emergency services, medical/hospital staff, and broadcast production.

It would take such a long time for people to try to get a hold of the 24 hour time clock so I say we just keep it as is.

I use one at my work actually, I kind of like it. But yes, that is something not a lot of people know.

24 hour time was easy for me to get used to when I went to Germany. You just add any PM hours to 12. Am stays the same. Having to learn what different temperatures in ℃ felt like.

The 3ds and 2ds use 24 hour clocks.
Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
We should totally use a 24 hour clock. All the cool countries are doing it.

My problem is, is 12:10 AM or PM at night?
Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
That would be AM, but some consider AM to be morning.
Also, I prefer to use 24 hour time on my phone. However, when I'm telling someone the time, I'll say what time it is in AM or PM by habit.

12 PM would be noon.
12 AM would be midnight.
Huh.
I guess that is kinda confusing.

Is it?
I've never found AM/PM confusing, just associate AM with morning and PM with afternoon/nighttime.
Since 12 in the morning marks the start of a new day, it would be AM!

But if 12 AM is in the morning of a new day, why is it called midnight?
I think we ought to measure the time using a 24 hour system with 0 standing for sunrise over the equator at the equinox.

Some places it gets dark really early though. Obviously not at noon, but when its winter over here, 4:00 looks like 6:00 and 4:30 looks like 7:30.
Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
Midday looked like midnight earlier, its been so typical a British day.

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I think the 24 hour clock is good. I learned to call it military time because that is what they use. I remember not bringing a watch to a week long summer camp, and one of the adults had to bring me one. It was in the 24 hour time, so that was all I used for the week. That was fun. I don't see how people find it hard, it would just take a little to get used to, and I do think it makes more sense. I wouldn't mind using it more often.
I was beat to saying this. The DSi uses it as well, which means that all of the DS Pokemon games I play display it in 24 hour format.hypernovatic wrote:The 3ds and 2ds use 24 hour clocks.

I don't think I've ever actually dreamed of being an animal but I have had plenty dreams with animals in them. Nothing that immediately comes to mind as interesting enough to be discussed in the Official Dream Thread though.
Has anyone here ever played "Settlers of Catan"? It's a board game I got for Christmas and I love it! What other board games do y'all like?

I was that way up until maybe late November 2014. I don't know why, but I started waking up remembering my dreams. It's really weird.Amazee Dayzee wrote:Not that I can remember because most of the time I don't remember my dreams.
Like, I'm asleep. But when I start to wake up, I go through that process of realizing I'm waking up. I know I'm in a dream but in a split second it's gone and I'm awake. I don't really know how to explain it.
Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I suck terribly at Catan, but love playing it anyway.Hlaoroo wrote: Has anyone here ever played "Settlers of Catan"? It's a board game I got for Christmas and I love it! What other board games do y'all like?
We have the six player expansion pack.

Well, I might have played Settlers of Catan - or maybe it was a variation on it - but it's been a long time.
A few board games I enjoy playing are Carcassonne and Talisman. Uno and Apples to Apples, while not board games, are my favorite to play.

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I've not got any expansion packs for it: I just have the standard game. I considered getting the app or PC game but the reviews of both were terrible.
I've not heard of Carcassonne or Talisman. What are they like?
I also love Uno. I used to play that in the library at school on my lunch break. We used to add new rules every time we won a game. One game ended up like quadrupling the value of the draw cards so combining that with the rule allowing us to stack draw cards meant I ended up having to draw over a hundred cards once. Guess who lost that particular game?
Apples to Apples is a great game too! I played that in French once which was quite a challenge given my limited knowledge of the language.
