Fun fact! In Spanish name for the character "I" is (roughly) pronounced
"ee" while the character "E" is (roughly) pronounced "eh".

This confused me to no end as a child.

Try:
A as in "Father"
E as something between "Café" and "Pen"
I as the E's "Feet"
O as in "Bone"
U as the O's in "Food"
I'm talking american English pronunciation here, which more similar to Spanish by comparison to all other English accents.
And isn't "bone" pronounced "bawn"?

I don't know why old English translator translated the Spanish "J" as an "X", although I believe it because writing "Quihote" or "Havier" looked wrong... and because they didn't really care about foreign names.

It's because his name is from the old Castilian where "Quixote" would have been pronounced like "Quishote" (using the English "SH"). Over time the pronunciation became assimilated with the Spanish J, so in modern times the name has officially become "Quijote" in Spanish Speaking countries. Basically it's kind of like how Mexico is still written "Mexico" and not "Mejico" for historical reasons.

In Latin, the word order is subject/object/verb, and you determine meaning based on word endings. However, the rules governing these endings are, although very consistent if considered alone, vary extremely from declension to declension.

What's especially confusing (but is English's fault, not Spanish's), is the word "quixotic." "Quick-SOTT-ick." Now suddenly the X is pronounced differently.

Going even weirder with the X is "Mexico." MECK-sick-oh is English-speakers mispronouncing the mispronunciation done by Spanish-speakers. With the X pronounced like it is in Spanish, it's "MAY-he-ko." Except that's wrong too. It's actually "MAY-she-ko." Native Central Americans, yo.

Sleet, you're adding in other letters that change the sound. X in Quixotic and Mexico still go "ks", it's the "ot" and "ic" added after the letters that make them sound different.

Um... Deske, Sleet is pointing out this incongruity:
Quixote (Kee-ho-tay) - x = h
Quixotic (Quik-sot-ick) - x = ks
The sound of the X is different in these words because... English. ;)

Also that in English "Mexico" is pronounce Mek-sick-oh (x = ks), which is the English-ified pronunciation of the Spanish Meh-hee-koh (x = h), which is the Spanish-ified pronunciation of the original Central American Meh-she-koh (x = sh). ;)

Just recently there has been some rumor about a "leak" that shows new screenshots and information about Super Smash Bros.
http://playeressence.com/rumor-leaked-s ... -and-more/

Now this topic isn't about the "leak", but rather a certain character in this "leak". The Duck Hunt dog.

If he is actually in the game, how do you think he would play out?

Apple never came up with anything as good as Clippy. Suri and autocorrect just aren't the same. :P
herobrineharry wrote:Has anyone seen anyone cameos from other comics in HP?
There haven't been cameos as such as far as I'm aware but there is the odd reference to other cartoons like "Road Rovers". Again that's probably something best discussed in the comic section though as this section of the forums is intended for non-comic related shenanigans. ;)

Sepaking of teachers playing on computers...
The computers in the computer labs at my high school had a function to let the teacher view and control any student's screen from their own computer.
One day, one of the teachers (who happened to be much loved by the class) was bored and decided to do a prank. He picked the girl sitting next to me and from his computer deleted the short title she'd just written and wrote "I AM SOO STUPID!" in its place. The girl freaked out thinking her computer was possessed! She thought it was hilarious when she realised who the real poltergeist was though.
