Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I have been wondering. There are a lot of translation projects, and there seem to be quite a few people here who don't have English as a first language. So, my question is: Where does everyone live? What country?
Also, what are the age groups?

Really? I haven't noticed anyone who even hints at having English as their second language. Certainly nobody really seeming to struggle with it outside of typos.herobrineharry wrote:there seem to be quite a few people here who don't have English as a first language.

Well, English is only a first language in the US, UK, and the former Commonwealth.
So if someone doesn't live there, then it isn't a first language. And I know hukley is swiss...

There are a lot of people on this forum who don't speak English as a first language. That doesn't mean they don't speak the language well.

Hmmm...I think he was actually mentioning that in a positive regard. As in, "That doesn't necessarily mean they don't speak the language well. They learned the lingo and seem to be quite fluent in it, which is good." Right?herobrineharry wrote:...Did I come off as saying anything in that regard?

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
Yea, I didn't mean it in a negative way. I was just stating that simply because it isn't a first language, doesn't mean someone can't be fluid in it.
Heck, I think I know more people who know English as a second language that know it better than the people who know it as a first. Whenever I proofread stuff, it's usually the non-native writers that use words I have to look up.

I can confirm this. I think some of the international students at my school have a firmer grasp on English than several of my extended family members.

I'm amazed with how well everyone speaks English on these forums, especially since native English speakers make up probably less than half the members (probably not accurate with that, mostly exaggerating) .

It's an English comic. Everyone who reads it by default has some grasp of English. Also, we enforce the forum being in English anyway. *giggles*Kateleo007 wrote:I'm amazed with how well everyone speaks English on these forums, especially since native English speakers make up probably less than half the members (probably not accurate with that, mostly exaggerating) .

Very true. However, I do know a few people who were introduced to housepets through the translation comics, as they don't/barely speak a word of English.Sleet wrote:it's an English comic. About the forum thing, I suppose non-english speakers just stay off it, but I'm sure they discuss the comic someplace else.
On a side note, I see that many of the translation projects are dead/dying. I think it'd be ideal if a few people ran these projects so if one translator becomes unavailable, the rest can fill in. I myself enjoy reading housepets in Chinese along with English; it's a fun way to learn the language :3

I never thought about learning a language through reading a comic I liked. unfortunately I know little of any foreign language and I am sure google translate would do a better job.

Yes, it's good, although I'm constantly learning it. I would guess they're about 1/3 of the total forum members.Kateleo007 wrote:I'm amazed with how well everyone speaks English on these forums, especially since native English speakers make up probably less than half the members (probably not accurate with that, mostly exaggerating) .
I'm an example of that, but it wasn't so much because of the English language, but mainly because of the wideness of the comic. Read it all translated in my language, for first, helped a lot to introduced me to the comic, otherwise I was going to totally abandon it (without realize the very bad error I was going to do)...deepskycyan wrote:Very true. There are plenty of people who at least tried to learn Japanese because of anime and/or manga, so I don't see why it wouldn't also apply to English.

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
Exactly.
Besides, they both have their own partners anyway so to put them together Rick would have to tear those cute couples apart. Grape has stated that she doesn't feel for Peanut in that way anyway and now that Peanut is with Tarot, I thin he may not consider Grape that way any more either.
So, yeah, I don't think it's going to happen.
But that's probably a topic better discussed in the comic section.
In other news, I discovered a few days ago that a dice game that I enjoy is actually Yahtzee by a different name. My life has been a lie!

Yeah I wasn't sure if Greedy was Yahtzee or not...coz both use 6 dice...but yeah Greedy is very fun. I played the heck out of it back in the day when all my old SL friends were still around and just about all of them were into it. Now we've all gone our seperate ways, following our seperate paths to our seperate destinies. A lot of 'em having destinies IRL...
