Re: Joys And Sorrows
Wow. I knew you were having some trouble because you took too many weed-out classes, but I had no idea you were on the verge of failing your first semester. Glad to hear that you made it through though.Beagle wrote:Megamaster wrote:Sorrow: Gotta deal with English...Megamaster wrote:Sorrow: Still didn't write my poem for English because it's too hard.Megamaster wrote:Sorrow: The more my English teacher talks about research papers, the more I dread doing one.Megamaster wrote:Sorrow: The amount of work I get in English is overwhelming...So from what I've observed, this is the last class you really need to buckle down for to graduate high school, yes? Honestly, I get that you need an outlet to channel all this "I hate this class" energy and all, but the fact is that you need this class to graduate from high school so like it or not you have to pass it.Megamaster wrote:Sorrow: Still dreading research papers more and more by the day.
If you don't want to go to college, I totally respect that. Not everyone is meant for college, and I have a couple of friends that chose not to go. But! I think it's worth considering that by choosing not to go, you are pretty much immediately jumping right into adulthood. You are now legally an adult, and your parents don't have to provide you with food, clothing, or housing anymore. You can also consider car insurance, gas money, a cell phone, internet, and that extra security of knowing someone is there in case something bad happens. Heck, after you graduate, you have no right to a free education anymore. Actually, in some countries, a free education isn't even really a thing. I mean, you just need to get through this one class, and then you're done with high school. You can put that into perspective the next time you have to write a research paper, right?
My first semester of college, I made the mistake of taking way too many "weed out" engineering classes, and almost failed out my first semester. I mean, I was in the top of my senior class and got a full scholarship to one of the best engineering schools in the country! In the span of a few months, I was physically ill from realizing that I could end up $11,000 in debt (you have to repay scholarships if you fail classes, by the way!), being thrown out of school, and hoping that I could be accepted after two years of community college and a mountain of debt so I could get back into this school, because it is literally the only school in my entire state that offers my degree. It was absolutely the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life but I still knew that I needed to deal with it because it was not the worst situation in the world. I am eternally grateful that I have been given the free will and opportunity provided to me, as many people do not have that. I managed a 2.4 GPA, which got me no credit for a calculus class, kicked out of an extracurricular club, and the bottom 8% of my engineering class, but I squeaked out of Chemistry and economics with C's and wasn't placed on academic probation, so whatever, I made it! Now I'm out of crappy classes that I hate and taking classes that I'm -good- at, classes that are in my major, and ultimately I know that I made the right choice in coming here (albeit taking all my weed-out classes at a community college, because since I got a full ride to an engineering school, I can at least shell out a bit of my own money to stay here).
So if you don't want to go to college, you don't have to! But do know that if you choose to study at least one thing, even just getting a two year degree at a community college learning how to be a plumber, you will ultimately have more options in life and really come out feeling like someone who can handle the responsibilities of adulthood. And if you don't want to learn a trade, you just have to finish high school. But it might be to your benefit to maybe give community college a try, because if you think high school English is hard, you really don't want to see what full blown adulthood is really like! Community college might give you some time to get your life together and figure out what is really important to you. As someone who almost abruptly got thrown into it herself, I still say that being a student is still the easiest profession.
(Also, you guys, that explains why I was gone for so long. As you all know what kind of person I am, I felt very ashamed for a very long time and just could not be active here until I dealt with what was going on in my life.)
(I also agree with everything that Beagle just said about, well, everything. Heck, I'm not going to college right now. I'm going in the military. If things go well there, I may stay in for life. There are many different good options out there if you just look.)
Also,
I was stopped a light about a month ago and a guy was just slowly moving forward before he hit the back of my truck. We had both been sitting there for a minute or so, so why the heck he decided he had to move closer is anyone's guess. He's lucky I didn't have my ball hitch on or he would have a hole in his bumper. As it is, there wasn't any damage on his or my car. No police, no insurance companies, none of that. I feel bad that you got the short end of the stick on something that doesn't really sound like it was your fault.Beagle wrote:Sorrow: Last weekend I got cut off on the road as I was checking my blind spot, so I rear-ended a guy going like 10 mph at a stop light and of course by North Carolina law it's 100% my fault. I scuffed the guy's bumper, while my car needed a new hood, headlight, and turn signal, and just to make matters worse, he called the police over a SCUFF and got me a $240 ticket and four points on my license. DX Overall it costs $120 to fix my car and $240 for the ticket, but I got pictures of both cars so while my insurance will still go up in July, he can't sue me for everything I own over a scuff.

Sorrow (well, actually worse, more like panicking): Lost the notebook where I wrote down all the data from our sampling trip to survey a river and beach in my area
now I gotta scour the whole apartment looking for this dog-forsaken notebook which holds the line between passing my ecology class or not. T_T
slight joy: At least the nitric acid stains on my fingers are finally starting to heal and peel off.

I really need to get a different coffee maker first. One that's just a little bit taller so that it can actually fit the average mug that I find.

Still, after reading Beagle's statements, I think I just need to suck it up, and get that doggone degree. Then learn how to drive, draw stuffs, take up a part-time job at Starbucks, and just recuperate from this horrible university experience.
Just 2 more months. I'll dread the journey, but relish the ending.

I know that feeling, my course may not be university level but I'm doing driving at the same time, and not all of my family is what you would call "supporting", they really lack the sense to be able to solve their own problems, let alone try to solve mine. You can do it Kuro.

You can do it, Kuro! Remain tenacious and you'll get through it. My advice to stress: it may be easier said than done but constantly think positive thoughts and smile! Based on my experience it'll relieve some stress and make you feel more motivated to do stuff.

Joy/Sorrow: I tried out two brand-new 6 inch, #2 square head power bits today. Each from a different company.
The cheap one that I didn't have high hopes for actually worked pretty well. (That's the Joy)
The more expensive one that I had read great stuff about online was a piece of junk. It didn't even properly fit in the head of the screws. (And that's the Sorrow) l literally used it for two screws and changed it. I've never switched a bit so quick in my life.

Joy: Will be getting our own modem soon. Along with the switch from cable to Hulu, this should save us at least $80 a month, if not more.
Joy: I get to do a lot of modeling in Autodesk Inventor tonight! Which is always fun, I love using Inventor.
Joy: Got some 808 State, quesadillas, and a Coke, and I'm ready to roll.
Sorrow: The reason for such copious amounts of modeling is because a big project is due tomorrow for Engineering. Oh, and there's an essay for English I have to do by then too. And then over the weekend I have to read the entirety of Blender for Dummies and demonstrate what I learned in an animation... all before Monday. |C

MURDEROUS RAGE: Murphy's Law just kicked in for no reason at all, so that essay line I posted earlier is now the premature end to my final copy of my Level 5 essay. Apparently I never saved and submitted the version I wrote at 2 AM. Good grief. Sorrow: I had to play angel of mercy for a dog that was hit by a car.
He was run over a few turns away from my house. A big, beautiful pit bull. Owner mentioned he had just sired pups. Had a twisted leg, and was bleeding from his mouth fairly heavily.
I was able to get a sturdy, large box closed up from a nearby Spanish market to use as a makeshift stretcher, so he could be loaded into his owner's car to take to the vet. Hopefully he'll be okay, but I just don't know...
Others were tending to the dog. Other than what I said, I also directed traffic. I put my car in front of the dog to make sure he wasn't hit again.

Joy: Just watched my little sister metaphorically slap someone into next week with some amazingly choice words in an argument. It was, for lack of any other description, utterly glorious. The children of this family have ALWAYS been amazing at winning face to face arguments but today was...something else. She employed all the tricks of the trade, even using knowledge of the person's traits as a vital part of her word and tone usage. The whole thing was just beautiful. Timing, action, reaction she nailed EVERYTHING. I have to say I would not have missed today if I had been paid to. Best part is I just feel so bloody proud of her for it. It was tense and many would have crumbled rather than argue back, especially as it heated up. And boy did it HEAT up! I also feel good about myself because I, for all intents and purposes, raised her. It is a wonderful feeling to know all that effort when we were younger has definitely paid off. Should be fun to see what happens in a few days though actually. I mean she is scared, to a point, of what this person could physically do to her but she has three people guarding her back. We are here for her...come what may.
I WUV MAH KITTIES!
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Joy: Got my brother a cheap, effective Desktop PC. This should last until college. =P
Sorrow: At the same time, my sister's PC can't be fixed right now, but for the dumbest of reasons: She doesn't want a cheap Graphics card... she wants the best... and nothing less.
The one we want? $150... the one she wants? $400...
*crushes a can of coca cola*
