Some of these project wonderful ads that are showing up are startling. I just got one about 'Dying Cat Euthanasia'. What the heck?!

That's why I keep having Adblock turned on.

No regrets.

I turn AdBlock off for Housepets! The ads are more relevant than usual and I like supporting the comic anyway.

There was a time when my computer was crawling with ads, some going to the low, low level of pretending to be download buttons for whatever I wanted to download or anti-virus alerts to make me click on them and download whatever they wanted to sell me. Pop-ups interrupting me everywhere I went.
This disease on my computer has fortunately ended, though I may need to find an effective adblock in case of future eventualities.

I leave my adblock on for Housepets unfortunately. They're just too annoying when I get the same three ads for weeks on end.

But I do access the site by my phone a bit, and that doesn't have any kind of ad blocking stuff. (I'm not sure if that even exists for phones.) So I don't feel as bad about it because of that.

I'm sure that......

"There is an app for that."

I really hate this whole "let's use acronyms and abbreviations for everything" trend that the english native-speakers have. Do you know how long it took me to find out "app" meant "application"?

Not by turning three-word phrases such as "By the way", "For your information", and "laughing out loud" into acronyms, they don't!

My knowledge of Japanese is nigh non-existant, but isn't every kanji a syllable?

A kanji can be a syllable or a whole word, depending on the character and its usage. Japanese has three scripts, hiragana, katakana and kanji. I took one year of it, got too confused and changed to French.

We Aussies have a reputation for shortening things. Heck, we even all ourselves Aussie instead of Australian.

pretty sure there's an asian language where laughter is written as "555" because 5 is pronounced as "ha"

I know, I know. But it's Australian English. Each country seems to have their own dialect of English although the main structure of the language stays the same. I didn't mean that Australian was a language anyway - I was just pointing out that we're terrible for abbreviating things.

I think I have heard of that Asian language too but I can't or the life of me remember what it is...

I remember playing Phantasy Star Online Episode III online with some Japanese people and "W" was said in places where I assumed they meant something analogous to "LOL."

Well, that and you do that rhyming word replacement thing. Like I'm apparently a Seppo, and I had to get a friend who was born in Australia to figure out where it came from (he must have moved here before that word became common, but he managed to figure it out cause y'all are weird like that  )

The w comes from 笑 which means smile/laugh and is pronounce "warai".

What does monosyllabic mean?

I assume it's a smell based on context.

Not here it is. O'course, we say Billiyards (bill-yerds is how we Californians pronounce it) fast enough to make something sound like a one syllable word.
