Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
I agree with Bolly. I finally feel bad for King. I don't think he will try to escape - he'll get into more trouble when he gets back, and he knows it. Perhaps he'll try to talk to Pete or something... although that wouldn't be fun. Hm... I wonder what will happen next.
Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
Concerning the "can't do anything beyond transformation" thing I would say King can't possibly know, since a) maybe Pete simply doesn't want to cause him (physical) harm at the moment and b) it's magic anyways, so the restrictions of Pete's abilities are probably arbitrary.Sinder wrote:A) We don't know if King is correct regarding Pete's powers or not; he admits himself that he doesn't have everything figured out.
If that constitutes a violation of free will depends on the extent of that ability. If Pete could theoretically control King's every body movement and thus make a meat marionette out of him I would consider that as a form of infringing free will.rickgriffin wrote:Did you see that thing in Bruce Almighty where Bruce made Evan say a bunch of stupid stuff on the air? He wasn't allowed to violate free will, but that doesn't mean he can't make them do things in more drastic ways than I could similarly take someone's arm and move it for them.Sinder wrote:B) We know that he's wrong about certain things; Pete has already rendered him unable to speak his real name, which is a pretty clear violation of free will
"Why are you hitting yourself" doesn't call free will into question, now, does it!

It will be an A-Team-esque escape! I can see it all ready! Fox will will be dramatic and all, "I'm forming a team..." And he'll recruit Rex, Max, and Joey. And this is how it will go:
Four figures in a dark room, standing around a table with a lone light bulb shining down. Fox is putting the final touches of the escape plan on the table; "All right, for this operation, we're gonna needa few things. We've gotta get our paws on a children's wagon. Joey, you'll take care of that. Make sure it's level and that the wheels on it are good. Rex, I'm gonna need you to get a power drill. If anyone asks, say we're making additions to the clubhouse. Max, how good are you at swiping stuff?"
Max smirks and leans and puts his weight on the table; "It'll be like I was never even there."
Fox smiles back and continues with, "Perfect, 'cause I'm gonna need you to collect all the canned cat food and catnip in the neighborhood."
Max's smile fade's and he winces at the thought of having to keep his cool with such vaulued goods. Rex clears his throat and asks, "But what about busting King out? Don't we need more stuff?"
Fox's smile grows wider and responds, "Don't worry, I'll take care of the rest. Now, on the day of the escape; Max, I need you to break in to King's house and steal his owner's keys. Keys to the house, mailbox, car, as much as you can grab. Lure him outside and keep him there. That cat stuff will lure all the cats out. Use them. You'll know what to do. Joey, you'll be waiting for us in the backyard with the wagon. Rex, once King's owner is outside and well distracted, we'll sneak in and take King out to the back and load him on to the wagon. Then you'll pull it across the backyards all the way to the party. The boards of the fences will be loosened, so all you have to do is push past them. Joey, you'll be stearing the wagon to make sure it stays on course. I'll work on the lock to get King out."
The day of the escape had finally arrived and Fox's plan had gone off without a hitch. The foursome in the wagon arrived with a crash in the backyard of the house the party was taking place in. Rex fell to the ground, panting. Joey jumped off laughing his tail off. King stumbled out of his confinement and Fox slapped him on the back. Fox smiled and proudly stated, "I love it when a plan comes together."

Actually, I think this may be a diamond opportunity to have one of the more minor characters come in an, perhaps without even knowing it, save the day. I can imagine Daisy or Joey somehow getting involved, and just not thinking there might be something more serious behind it ("King? What are you doing in there, silly?")On another note. I think King will get rescued by someone *coughcoughFoxcoughcough*.
Also, can I ask what the original last panel text was? Just curious, cause I only read the comic a couple minutes ago.
Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
I beleive the last panel was something like: "or you could've done that, anyone could've done that....i'm such an idiot.

Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to tempt fate.
It is interresting that Pete may be trying to show King just what kind of a position that he, and by extension all other pets, are really in.

Fun Fun. Is Pete changing skin color or is it just me? Last strip he looked more pale, and now he looks like his own tanned self again.

Photoshop is overkill for such a simple task. Even just a hex editor and some understanding of the image format could do(though only easily possible with bitmaps). The more I think about this comic the more unimpressed I am at Pete :V He's trying to teach Joel a lesson with the whole turning him into a dog thing. But what lesson is it? I thought it was to teach him to be a better person to animals and in general, but by not allowing him opportunities to do this, he doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.

While it would seem that way, I'm sure Rick has some sort of plan with all this. As someone suggested, it might even be that Pete is trying to prevent something bad happening to King, or King doing something bad, that would happen if he went. It doesn't mean he has to be nice to King, or maybe he just doesn't want to appear soft. Point being we have no clue at the moment what Pete's overall motive is.The more I think about this comic the more unimpressed I am at Pete :V He's trying to teach Joel a lesson with the whole turning him into a dog thing. I can't wait to see what Pete does.
Finally, it looks like we get to see what his intentions are, and why Tarot was so afraid of him.
Edit: I looked back just now, because of all the debate, and I noticed that the full description she gave was (transcribed verbatim)
Now, to give an opinion of Pete's actions toward Joel/King, he seems to feel that what he is doing is righteous, despite how little he thinks of Joel/King's desires, or even his rights as a living creature. He seems to think that this is ok, and I'm still divided on this: Joel was a bad person, whether he was bad-hearted or not, and now King is, in fact, learning his lesson.

Then of course, Peanut isn't too bright, so Zack presses the button and releases Pete, after which he has this dramatic entrance where he breaks out of the cave and terrifies everyone who sees him. (they all seem to forget it) Obviously, be it true or not, something has lead Tarot to believe that Pete is not kind or good, or at least, that she should tell people this. Has anyone thought of the possibility that Pete is good and what Tarot is saying isn't true, whether she knows it or not? I'm going to assume that Tarot is not evil, because of the way she's been portrayed, but she's also a strange character who gets most of her info from otherworldly beings, but that doesn't mean she won't lie to further a greater agenda. (I hope I didn't just screw up an entire mega-arc for Rick. Sorry if I did!)The power Grape knows as 'Pete' has transmitted a dream to her in order to put her at ease, thinking that his freedom is what she wants
Don't believe it! Pete is neither kind nor good; He is actually sort of a jerk.
Hurry, Peanut! Stop Grape or we're all in grave peril!

Though I'm not complaining about the change.
