POLL: So... Who here's a furry?

Post by Sleet »

Note: I don't want this thread to get closed, so remember: let's keep things lighthearted, appropriate and respectful.

I've always kind of wondered exactly what proportion of posters here are furries. I know not everyone here is, so I'm curious to see exactly how many that is. So, I want to make this a yes/no question. It is as follows:

"Would you call yourself a furry?" (Yes/No)

Note that it says "you." It does not mean "would other people call you a furry," "do you exhibit opinions and/or behavior consistent with the public's general idea of what a furry is," or anything like that. This based only on what you consider the word to mean, in order to avoid the necessity of a "maybe" option. If you want to, you're welcome to explain and such, but all I'm really looking for is your yes or no. This is really not that important of a question so remember to keep it respectful and keep the conversation away from what it would no doubt immediately drift towards at any other forum. You know who you are.

So to start things off: yes.

There. Made it a bit easier for people to vote. Anonymously, too, if they so wish.

I voted yes, BTW. I've said this before; I find furry to be much of a person's own opinion.

EDIT: Like Sleet said, let's not give any of the mods reason to lock this thread, okay? Follow the rules, be respectful, and things should be fine.

No for me. :)
I think several people would call me a furry by my behavior, but I'm not interested in anthropomorphism at the level that I think makes you a furry, so, yeah.

Can I assume that "anonymous" means the poll disappears for you after you vote on it? :?

Anyway, I voted "yes." It really depends on your definition, but by my definition I say yeah, I'm a furry. I don't like to use labels to define myself, but that's a topic for a different forum.

Yeah, I came just in time to see the poll only having 'no' as an answer, for all four options. xD

Not at all. I'm proud of all the weird hairless apes who read this. They obviously don't care if people think they're furries for reading this, they know they aren't and that's what matters! Or they just don't tell anyone or they don't use the forum. For that reason I feel like our furry percentage here is going to be higher than that of the total readership.

Hmm... Well, I considered my definition of furry to be someone who would appreciate anthropomorphic art/things, whether or not they participate in it themselves. Though, that got me thinking... I enjoy video games. Does that mean I am a video game? I also appreciate a good novel. Would that make me a novel? Or a taco, if that's my favorite food? ... Yes it is, but that's besides the point. ... If I have a point. ... Which is debatable.

I've always preferred not using "furry" to refer to the characters, but only the fans.

Exactly. I consider myself one, despite the negative image it's been given. I like anthropomorphic art, stories, etc., and I always have been interested in them. And that will never change.
Most 'non-furries' hear the word and think of the weird, sick side where everyone claims they're animals on the inside, dress up like them on the outside, and do things better left undiscussed. I'm not one of them. And most of the people who are furries aren't, either. In fact, being 'furry' is more of a hobby than anything. We're just normal people with interests in human-like animals.
Also, I considered making a similar topic, but I wasn't sure how well it would be received.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads-up, Teh Brawler. Mistake edited.

Fixed. :P
You'd actually be surprised how many people don't think that. Where I live, being a furry just boils down to have an odd obsession with animals that can talk (which is still kind of extreme) and centering your media exposure around them.

I suppose I can identify myself with the fandom.
I have an interest in the art of anthropomorphic animals.
Such arts are open to so much imagination and creative influence.

I guess growing up with such characters in cartoons has its effect on me.

If you think about it, it's like most of the cartoon creators are trying to make children furries. Everyone except Dora in Dora. The entire "Backyardigans" group. Spongebob, a few others, and my favorite... Perry the Platypus.

I voted yes. I'm a fan of the fandom. I have a few "fursonas", so to speak, but they're more like my own made-up characters that I write about and such. I also have respect for anybody who would dress up in a big costume to express themselves, but it's not for me. My girlfriend is also a furry, and is on the same level with me.

Being a furry does not define my lifestyle. It's merely is one aspect of it.

first of all define Furry...
are you already a furry when you got fursonas, or when you think of having a fursuit, or even with less? I am not sure on my opinion....

Either way, I am no furry, I don'T have a fursona my name is (like told) the 3 first letters of my first and the 3 first letters of my last name. And my avatar is also my standard Counter Strike avatar and I just like it for being über-cute.

I think the most basic way to detail furry is "A strong interest in anthropomorphic animals that has you reading/looking/playing at art, stories, video games or cartoons that feature them." Your personal level of involvement with the fandom/subculture may vary however due to personal preference.

Yes I'm one.

The Definition of furry for me is one that loves cute, furry animals.

the problem is that some people have to joke about it to the point it can be overlooked badly.

In my case, i like felions the most. so yes, i'm a furry =P

That is the problem with using that term.
"Furries" have varying degrees of interest.
But the term as a whole has come to have a negative meaning, consisting of the interests of the entire furry fandom.
Those outside the fandom tend to focus on the mature and strange aspects of it.

I wouldn't use the term before explaining my degree and area of interest.

People who hates furries mostly have just stupid reasons...

I think they don't like furries because furries are different, and not like them.

People usually have stupid reasons for hating any group of people. As for furries, it's just a peer pressure thing. People dislike furries because it's the "cool" thing on the internet, and 9 times out of 10 the only person who stands up for furries is an actual furry, and who cares what they think? They're furries after all. [/Viscous Cycle] I would know, since I didn't have too sunny of an opinion until I started thinking for myself and ultimately turned to the other side.
