I was surprised to find out that Cheerwine is not sold outside of the South. The only other place that it is sold in is Norway. The northerners consider themselves superior and they don't have Cheerwine?! Savages!

Meh, I don't like cherry sodas. Cherry colas are good though. Besides, we West Coast men have Jones Soda, which makes darn good soda, of a million varieties.

Yeah, the chat thread doesn't move as quick as it did when it was a young whippersnapper.

Actually, my name is John. John Selert. The Third. I'm totally not lieing about that. Ignore every part of my username. It isn't related to my real name in the least. Not at all.

Re: Chat Thread 40: Where in the World is JeffCvt?
Actually everything is exactly what it seems because all truth is relative. Thus all is exactly how it seems in the sense that what is perceived is real and exists* and the interpretation of that by individuals is what is "flawed.” Which I put quotes around because as I said everything is relative ergo nothing is really flawed
* I suppose you could argue that what "exists" for us is relative to the limits of our perceptions and while that's true we cannot escape said perceptions so for the sake of making discourse possible one must assume the world is real with the understanding that the reality is shaped by the limits of perception and that when one says the world exists it is with the understanding that it is for the sake of making conversation about the world possible and because as of right now no proof that a realm of something resembling platonic forms exists that is different and out of the range of our human modes of perceptions

Hello. I'm an old forumite for a year or two ago. I'm just surfacing again and wanted to come to the chat thread and meet all the new people. :3 I'm Res.
Now to keep on topic cause I still remember some of the older rules.
I like to think of living as relativity sometimes but I'm still a huge fan of the quote, "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream." There's no way to prove you're not in the matrix and there's no proving we're not just in a constant state of relative awareness. I like open ended possibilities to my existence I guess. I'm a sucker.

Hi new guy! (or would it be old guy?)
But how would you ever know you had reached "full awarness"? And even if there is some concept of "full awareness" that exists hidden in some yet unlocked/undeveloped corner of the brain what makes that any different than perception as we understand it now? Both would by their very nature limit/influence how one sees the world.lasthunter wrote:or i could argue that at this point of time humanity has not yet achieved full awareness of there surroundings....

Re: Chat Thread 40: Where in the World is JeffCvt?
Full awareness is kinda hard to understand to me personally. Enlightenment in the hindu religion isn't so much about knowing what others don't but is about acceptance of certain facts that are hard to accept. Like that you're aware that you're not the center of the universe and that the things you obtain mean practically nothing in the scheme of things.
Being aware of the possibilities of afterlife and the truth that you absolutely know nothing about afterlife for sure is a good thing to keep hold of. Without going too much into politics, I feel that America could use a good dose of eastern philosophy and debate the definition of "self" and what "right and wrong" are. Some eastern religions have it pretty close when they say that "right is always wrong to someone."
Ghost in the shell also does a fantastic job of addressing what it means to be a human and remain aware also.
Have any of you heard of the theory of macro and microcosms? :3 Those are pretty stellar notions.

Ah, just what I need to wind down: an old forum member to welcome back, a philosophical discussion of self and a tyrannical rule which forces everyone to shower praise on someone that no-one could dislike or they'd never be heard of again... *hugs Sleet*
Seriously though, life is hard you guys. I've been so busy these past few weeks and it's only going to get harder. But I thought I'd duck back in for a bit and see all your fantastic fac- uh...avatars again! Also, hey Res! Seeing old forum members is great, especially when they present awesome points of discussion!
On that topic, I remember seeing a documentary a little while ago about space and they spoke about how they can pretty much model galaxies on a computer. With the rate our capacity to store information is increasing and our knowledge of how things work is expanding, it won't be long before we can model an entire universe from birth to now. We could then keep running models until a planet with life is created, then with sophisticated AI, we could model an entire life form being created and developing. BUT THEN, it was hypothesized: What if we are part of such a model run by a previous race of intelligent life? Then Homestuck came along and presented exactly that.
I was just thinking today, I wish I could have done philosophy but I have to do something practical first. >:(
