The funny thing is, one of them is into anime and the other is always giving him crud about WHERE ARE THEY?! and scantily clothed school girls. So yeah...don't think that would work...at least for the latter of the two.

I had a friend who rejected me because I was a furry (But then she talked to me about it, wanting to know more about the clean side of furries so I explained and now we are cool)

And are footbal mascots considered furry?

Because people don't really seem to acknowledge them as such :l
Yeah, furries get a lot of guff from the internet, mostly for the explicit side of it. That's one reason why I don't just call myself a furry because people automatically think fetish. Also, another forum spoke on the topic, saying how furries are the only group who are vocal about their fetish and most people link it to Diet of Worms, which is just plain stupid for a number of reasons. I'm glad you were able to show your friend it's not all bad. I was telling my friends earlier: 90% of good comics are anthropomorphic in some way, and 50% of those are explicit, meaning if you read webcomics, there's a high chance the ones you like will be anthropomorphic, it's just a matter finding the non-**** ones.

Also football mascots are thought of as the geeky kids trying to be involved in football without requiring skill or athleticism rather than furries.
Feel like you need a friend? I'm happy to talk anytime! :D

I'd go with this idea. If they're your friends, their idea of you as a person is probably stronger than their idea of you as a furry. If you don't make a big deal of it they'll probably understand that you are exactly the same person you were a week ago, and that they've just learned something new about you.

Except that (at least in college) the football mascot has to be in excellent shape. They are out there (possibly in extreme heat) in what is basically a giant, super-thick coat constantly moving and jumping around and getting the crowd into the game. They actually will trade off during the game so that they're not out there the whole time.

I've never really thought of mascots as furry, though I guess if you really want to stretch the definition they could be.

I still say it depends on WHY they're the mascot.

I'd do it just to wear a suit made to resemble an animal (provided the mascot is an animal to begin with).
Love me right now! Done.

A 'furry' is someone who derives enjoyment from artistic depictions of anthropomorphic animals; a "brony" is a fan of My Little Pony. The latter term is generally reserved for those who are (a) male and (b) a teenager or adult.

Well, sure, it's derived from brother, but, given that a lot of them are female, that's more in reference to gender-overarching brotherliness as part of a larger fandom. Unsurprisingly, as we talk about a show specifically created for little girls who just happened to attract the attention of neckbeards male grown-ups.

I'm not a brony myself, so I may be wrong, but I believe female fans (teenage/adult) are refered to as "pegasisters"

That's just a matter of taste. Some use brony as a gender neutral term, while others prefer pegasister as the term for female adult fans.

Even if that term exists (not that I've ever heard it till now), mainstream media use exclusively brony.

Well it's vaguely related to furries. A lot of bronies are furries and vice versa. It makes sense, considering My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a furry show. You could consider bronies to be single-target furries, if you want.

It's a show about animals with human features (such as intellect, speech, how they live, et cetera). That makes it furry.

I believe he's asking if everyone, at some point early in their life, goes through a stage of being slightly furry.

Kind of in a sense? I mean, when you're young you tend to watch a lot of cartoons with animals in them, but I'm not sure that really makes you a temporary furry or anything.

But not only for cartoons.
I mean, I, myself, since i was very little i was interested on animals and feel empaty for them just as i used to do with other people, or you never wondered how would it be if you were a dog, a cat, or else?
Isnt that what it made you get interested into being a furry, get in touch with nature, with animals?

Well nah, it's usually just liking certain characters, shows, video games, books, movies, et cetera. But that can often be part of it!

Exactly. And of course, being raised in a culture that's heavily into anthropomorphs (whether they know it or not) certainly helps.

And having grown up with the "Animorphs" series was a small factor.

Well most high schoolers are so afraid of being judged that they keep stuff like that to themselves.
