nah man. I don't believe that putting a glass of water in a vacuum is advisable. You shouldn't spill water on your electronics.

Not necessarily. There's also gravity providing pressure on it. I think there will be more vapor pressure but not enough that all would boil.

White vineger is good for a sunburn sonic. it takes all of the sting out of it. It has to be white Vineger though, red vinger will make things worse.

The smell will fade quickly. it disapears once the vineger evaporates. well it does for me anyhow, and it is a lot easier to put up with than the sting of the sunburn.

no, just realist. point out the good and the bad in a situation. If the bad outweighs the good it's a bad situation, and if the good is more prevalent, it's a good situation.

I actually saw a pretty compelling argument for pessimism once. It boiled down to "if things go badly, you saw it coming, and if things go well you're pleasantly surprised." Really, when you put it like that, pessimism doesn't sound all that bad. I'd tend toward realism, though. Not "the glass is half full" or "the glass is half empty," so much as "yep, that's a glass alright."

Just because I take a more positive outlook doesn't mean I'm not smart enough to tell the difference between a good situation and a bad one. If someone lunges at me with scissors I'm not gonna smile and think the person is going to give me a cool haircut :I

it's basically the same logic behind it.

But there's no reason to distort reality at all, really. I think people should strive for objectivity/realism. Making an effort to see things in any sort of positive light is unproductive.

I know you are not meaning optimistic is a wrong ethic, but I think it is sometimes ok to put some effort for positive thinking while givingup a productivity.
life isn't about being productive all the time, isn't it? isn't top of the society one making us to think in productive way to help them selves?

No that's exactly what I'm saying.

People like to make themselves happy by imagining that everything is ok. That's an easy way out. People need to either learn how to deal with negative emotions in a healthy way or learn how to be happy in a realistic situation.
Actually people need to learn BOTH but that's apparently a lot to ask of people. :P

And yes, a little positive thinking (but that can go wrong if you use too much, too) can get you somewhere. But being a positive thinker is NOT being an optomist. There's a lot of overlap and they're very similar, but they're not the same.

Psychological research indicates optimists are more likely to employ successful coping strategies, overcome emotional distress, and deal with obstacles to meet goals. There is also apparently evidence that optimism has an impact on physical health.

Got it, this conv reminds me about 'Schisandra chinensis tea' it is a tea that has five differnet flavor in one cup of tea (sweet,bitter,sour,salty,spicy) which is really mysteriously mysetrtious. also kinda shows life in nutshell or in teacup. or not.

I've long been a supporter of the realism over optimism outlook.

I don't need to tell myself the glass is "half-full" rather than "half-empty". If I ever feel upset or overwhelmed with life, I've got friends that I can vent to. That and ponies. Ponies have kinda become my anti-depressant of late (maybe that's a bad way to put it since I haven't really been depressed; but watching MLP does kinda put me in an uncharacteristically good mood).

We should work to solve our problems instead of telling ourselves that everything is OK.
Optimism is not what will make you successful. Being hopeful about the future, raising your expectations will not ensure that the outcome will be positive.
Whatever situation we may be in should be looked at objectively, there needn't be any distortion of reality. Facts should not be skewed to fit an argument or a viewpoint. Optimism is a means to keep the oppressed motivated; they accept their sorrow by denying reality. Optimism will only make you unhappy in the end.

well of COURSE it has positive merits. but on the other hand, it's illusionating, encourages people to overlook the negative side of things, and can cause people to be out of touch with their emotional state.
