Thanks, Sparky. I have a feeling that my friend will accept me being a furry. And who knows, she may think it's cool.
I long for the day when that happens.......

Of course, I've got to find someone to trust first.

I didnt know that being a furry was such a big change.

I mean, (i know is kind of a cliche) just be yourself. Is what you are and what you like.

Plus, if you keep making it look like something extrange or weird, people will take it just like that.

Dont worry inali, just bring the topic casually.
If she shows to be intrested she will ask.

Well, Inali. If you think your friend would be interested in the furry fandom, than good luck to you.

The more I think about it, I think one of my friends would actually be interested in it as well. He's obsessed with anime and other types animation and every time I tell him I'm reading a comic he always wants in on it.

The interesting thing about it is that she seems to have an interest in things like anime and such that have to do with animals, so she may take a liking to the fandom. I'll never know until I tell her, I guess.

Hope I don't chicken out like I did when I went to tell my friend Jeff... Perfect setting, perfect timing, etc., and I blew it.
It's really not such a big deal that you need to inform friends. It's like me telling people I watch birds.

The reaction would probably be akin to telling people I obsess over emergency vehicles and warning equipment.

It would probably be similar to if I told people that I destroy people's hopes, dreams and self esteem.

Wait what.

you know.. i think id be more surprised to find people who arent furry that like housepets.. :/

me? well since sonic, pokemon, digimon, starfox, and disney were a huge part of my life growing up.. id say my furriness is pretty justified. xD

for my OC's, ones a Wolf-Husky Hybrid named Wulfbang, and the other is a Hyena-Wolf Hybrid named Skoll (yeah i like wolves.. canines are where my loyalties lie!) both with some interesting stories that im just too muffins and cookies lazy to write out. T_T

im also an artist, but im my own worst critic and my procrastination levels are astounding so there isnt much in my gallery on DA.

we've gone over this before. It's got a wide range of definitions, and whether or not you are one is based on your definition.
some of the resident furries can give examples of said definitions.

Would it be appropriate to say that I'm in the middle of the road on this matter.

I think I'm a furry, but not to a degree most of you are, or seem to be.

Based on my very vague definition, then I suppose, yes. As you probably inferred by my username, I am a red fox.

weird behavior is nothing else but different to the mayority behavior

Think about this, lots of psicologist and psychiatrists started to study the mind because they wanted to know themselfs and their problems.
I dont know you, but for me it sounds like a crazy taking care of others.

I thought those guys looked alright (even though they leaned towards the weird part of the furry scale) but I don't like how they talked about it like it was some kind of mental disorder.

A furry is a person who is interested in animal anthropomorphism or media featuring anthropomorphic animals. Anthropomorphism being the idea of applying human traits to animals or vice-versa.

this almost makes me want to do a research paper on furries. ive had a lot of theories about the psychological makeup of what makes being a furry so appealing to some.

gotta say, wolverines are a bit intimidating, then again so are wolves. :P

im not quite sure if id collect data via interviewing people, ill probably just express my own opinions through my own observations with the furry fandom. i actually read a book on werewolves which included a preface on anthropomorphism, which if i did write a paper i would heavily reference.

one good observation is that mans affinity with animals could be dated prehistorically, the idea that mans experience in successful hunting strategies was through observation of other animals. since then man has always come to fear, respect, even worship animals because they have helped us survive in more ways than one.

for example, some Native American tribes wear the skins of an animal for some ceremonial significance that escapes me at the moment, then there is Egyptian gods (which are pretty much the first furries XD), the list goes on.

getting more specific, the relationship between dogs and humans is quite intriguing in the sense of its origins.. what really makes our two species relate to one another is that were both social animals, we communicate vocally within our own species to survive. its one of the primary reasons we developed a coexistance with eachother.

cats however.. we just kind of needed them to keep the rodents out of our homes, but thats why we have rat terriers! xD

That's close to the reason I'm into the fandom.

Lots of people get into the fandom through video games and cartoons. I've always loved cartoons with anthropomorphic characters in them, but I'm also interested in the idea of relating human characteristics to animal characteristics and the psychological characteristics of projecting ones ego and personality into a fursonality.

I used to be a HUGE fan of Balto when I was younger, and I think that it lended to my taking an interest in anthropomorphism. I think Balto is pretty popular movie in the fandom, isn't it?
