I was involved in one last year actually, nothing that interesting, the guy was doing some report on subcultures, and chose furries. I volunteered to be an interviewee for it, said it went over well until I did a few things, taboos which made everyone feel awkward to which I opologised, the fact that I was getting frustrated at Brink's online gameplay and swore a couple times when I phased through a wall, man, was that the worst connection ever, and some other things, addressing stereotypes and the likes. Apparently nobody in that class feels safe around The Grey Wolverine.
gotta say, wolverines are a bit intimidating, then again so are wolves.
im not quite sure if id collect data via interviewing people, ill probably just express my own opinions through my own observations with the furry fandom. i actually read a book on werewolves which included a preface on anthropomorphism, which if i did write a paper i would heavily reference.
one good observation is that mans affinity with animals could be dated prehistorically, the idea that mans experience in successful hunting strategies was through observation of other animals. since then man has always come to fear, respect, even worship animals because they have helped us survive in more ways than one.
for example, some Native American tribes wear the skins of an animal for some ceremonial significance that escapes me at the moment, then there is Egyptian gods (which are pretty much the first furries XD), the list goes on.
getting more specific, the relationship between dogs and humans is quite intriguing in the sense of its origins.. what really makes our two species relate to one another is that were both social animals, we communicate vocally within our own species to survive. its one of the primary reasons we developed a coexistance with eachother.
cats however.. we just kind of needed them to keep the rodents out of our homes, but thats why we have rat terriers! xD
