I know a bunch of bronies. but I'm in the anime club, so that's pretty much inevitable with such a large gathering of geeks. At the all night party this weekend, they're having a pony panel.

also, some of the anime club people are going to BroNYcon, so if I can get a ride there (or get better at driving so I can drive there myself), arrange a room with them, and pay the admission fee, I may go too.

I don't have the HUB network so this show kind of sneaked up on me by way of the internet fans. But thanks to episodes that have been posted on youtube, I watched the first two episode and ended up watching the whole series. Here are the conclusions that I have come to on it.

I like it. It is well made and I am not ashamed to admit that.

It is well animated, written and voice acted. The characters and stories are surprisingly deep and complex, and most importantly it is funny. Now some people are ready to dismiss it as a commercial for toys, but it is so more than that. Lauren Faust and company literally took nothing and turned it into something.

Lauren Faust may have did this for hire.

But I am reminded of something the filmmaker Don Edmonds, who often did film work for hire, said he always brought his A-game to every production that he worked on because he himself was an admirer of a director who often worked for hire named Michael Curtiz. Curtiz was hired to work on many films that were not his own personal vision, but he did his best. These films include:
"Casablanca"
"The Adventures of Robin Hood"
"Charge of the Light Brigade"
"White Christmas"
A lot can be accomplished if you just apply yourself.

And Lauren Faust and company really applied themselves.

*sits twitching in his chair* Right, I've decided. This is the last time I wait to watch an episode with my brother. This is freaking torture, not to mention really kinda stupid. I mean, easy for him to wait to watch the episode, he doesn't have groups like this to hang out with and discuss episodes with...

Sorry, just had to vent a little. So anyways, favorite song of season 2?

wait, you had to until until now to watch the new episode because of your brother?
As for season 2's songs, they didn't interest me that much. The only songs I liked were At the Gala and Winter wrap up.

Well ask him to do it sooner then?

I like Find a Pet. Also they really need to name these songs officially.

This scene, you guys. Does anyone know if there are any videos of just this scene? I can't link the whole video, and I don't want to anyway, since it's pretty unfunny. Except this part.

EDIT: Partial success?

I don't particularly mind if they decide to add a new alicorn, male or female. But I really don't like the whole, "Oh guess what? I actually have a cousin I never told you about who happens to be the only other alicorn in Equestria. Isn't that neat?"

It's just straight outta left field, and if this IS legit, I really hope they don't pull the "distant relative that was never mentioned before" because they didn't think about adding another alicorn until now, and they just needed an excuse to make him an alicorn. :/ That's just really lazy.

the thing is, when would they have had reason in the show to mention her distant relative? Maybe everyone in the show knows, but we don't because we've never seen a situation in which that information was pertinent.

Edit: small request. If you downloaded the leaked episode on iTunes, please wait to discuss it until after it airs.

not sure it does, considering they're actually downloading it from a legal source and paying for it, with Hasbro et al getting the same revenue as if it had gone up at the right time.
it's like if Best Buy put a game on the shelves before the release date. they can take it off the shelves, but they can't charge people who bought it with theft.

but still, don't talk about it.

I feel like they stated at some point in an episode that Celestia and Luna were the only two alicorns in Equestria, but I could be wrong.

Also, the pic says that he's 4 years old. Is that in pony years, or human years? Either way, this insinuates that there are even *more* alicorns because both Luna and Celestia have been around for well over 1000 years now, so whoever gave birth to this (relatively) new cousin would also have to be about that old. Unless it's like, their cousin 29 times removed...

And now that I'm looking back at the picture, what's even bigger here is that Rarity is happily dancing with that d-bag pony from the Gala? WhaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaat? @__@

I'm not sure how canon foreign magazines are.

as for the "only alicorns" thing, if they even said that at all, we learned already that one kind of pony doesn't need to give birth to that kind of pony. Alicornism may just be an extremely recessive gene that only pops up every few generations.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain at this point that whatever magazine that was posted in is not in any way linked to the show.

That seems like something outside of the "trinity" of ponies we see in the show. Alicorns (as far as we've seen) appear to be in an entirely different spectrum of species; closer to "gods" of the world than everyday citizens. They're far larger than any earth pony, unicorn, or pegasus (like comparing a miniature horse to a full-grown stallion), they appear to be "ageless" (1000 years was hardly rough on either of the sisters in terms of physical aging), and have magic far beyond the capabilities of even the strongest of unicorns (moving an Ursa Minor vs moving the sun).

It's possible, I guess. But it seems like trying to grow an orange on an apple tree.

Sometimes I wish Faust stil controlled this show. She said once she only wanted to exist just TWO alicorns (celestia and Luna). Now brace yourselves for the massive amount of canon alicorns.

No other alicorns have been shown on the show. These are all dubiously canon things like toys and foreign magazines, which Lauren Faust didn't even control at the time.

okay, as it is clear that Hasbro did not want this episode getting out early, I say it is within my right to scrub any mention of what the episode contains, no matter how vague or if it includes spoiler tags, if posted before the first airing on Saturday. just to let you all know. ^_^

unless Sleet thinks it isn't within my right.
