Who here likes Jazz? And if you do what is your favorite sub-genre if you have one? Personally I like any type other then Free Jazz but I would have to say my favorites are Acid Jazz and Cool Jazz.

Acid jazz is not really jazz. I like bebop and the more fusion-oriented jazz myself!

No, if you're listening to 'acid jazz' and it's not jazz, then it's not acid jazz. Don't you dare let mostly-downbeat labels who like to call their music 'acid jazz' sometimes convince you otherwise.
I was going to make a joke but then I did.

My grandma likes him. I was surprised!

In the same conversation, she and my mom were refusing to accept that Lady Gaga is a good singer, simply because they hate her music (and I do too). I showed them her singing with Tony Bennett and they had to give it to her. ^_^

I kind of just figure it comes with the territory
anyone trying to write meaningful music will eventually insert some political ideas.
I kind of prefer it, I like to see artists as actual people not just an entertainer.

though some bands have songs that are just too soapboxy for me that I just can't listen to (lookin at you NOFX)

That's not necessarily true. There are plenty of ways to write meaningful music without giving a lecture or doing partisan bashing!

Some songs don't even need lyrics to have a message and not be political at all.

Example: I love my parents by Buckethead

I think I have acquired somewhat of a theme song! Which is kind of unexpected.

I've found this playing at or around every single good thing that's happened for the past three weeks, which is funny to me because I didn't even think it was still popular. I thought people had moved on!

I don't even like David Guetta (though Sia I adore <3)!
I was going to make a joke but then I did.

Regina Spektor - Back of a Truck

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWe_ZwoLJmw

Now, there's a back of a truck selling the back of a car
And there's a back of a car selling roadway maps
And there are roadway maps selling the back of a head
Hey, how much for that back of a head, man?
Hey, wait a minute
Hey, wait a minute
Wait a minute, that—wait a minute, that's
Myy back of a head
Hey, you can't sell that, man, that's
Myy back of a head
Hey, hey sell it back to me, man, sell it back to me, hey, it's
It's my, muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-myyy
