Hmm'kay then! The film adaption of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road"
Seriously though, don't go into that film expecting it to be a feel-good movie, it will make you depressed for at least a little bit. And muffins and cookies is it good for making me be depressed.

what what? Jolly good time.
Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
If Amnesia were made into a movie that would be awesome. IIRC that's the only thing that's ever really had me on edge.Jimmy Jazz wrote:I'm not really sure if you could define mine as a "Scary" movie, and I probably can't write it or link it here, but its set the in post-Apocalypse after (presumably) the bombs fall. I'm not sure if I should say it outright since it's a pretty heavy R, even though some of the other movies listed here could be considered just as bad.
Although game-wise Amnesia takes the cake. that game stresses me OUT. Penumbra was just barely playable for me.

Thats not so much a scary movie, as a movie that just made me sad. I actually cried at times, and I hate emotions like that.Jimmy Jazz wrote:Hmm'kay then! The film adaption of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road"

Well, I've just got back from seeing The Thing in theaters, and I have to say, it was really good. The two reviews I'd read of it said that it was bad, but I have no idea what they were talking about.
Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Hmm... favorite scary movie would be "The Others".

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Oh yes! That movie is great! Really scared me when I saw it, plus the ending is just powerful. If you like that movie, I highly recommend the novel The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.Tattorack wrote:Hmm... favorite scary movie would be "The Others".

I'll take a look at it, I love reading books.
But getting English books in France tends to be... difficult...

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Isn't it a prequel to The Thing? Thats what I always thought was strange, they named the prequel the same thing as a remake of a movie with a similar title. Hey anyone seen Invasion of the Body Snatchers? Iv been meening to see it but I want to know if its any good. Related note, I love The Twilight Zone.Penwrite wrote:Well, I've just got back from seeing The Thing in theaters, and I have to say, it was really good. Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
The thing that made the balloons so scary, is because sometimes they are associated with Clowns. Pennywise used the balloons as a symbol of his coming, like at the beginning of the movie, he lured kids in with balloons
Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
I believe you mean IT. And yeah, I would understand what you're saying...if they had made Pennywise scary. :/ Now don't get me wrong, when I was a little kid (and the sun was going dooowwwn...) Pennywise terrified me. It's just looking back now that he's really just kind of funny at times. Sometimes due to how Tim Curry played him, but sometimes just because the special effects didn't live up to the ideas behind them.DismayWolf wrote:The thing that made the balloons so scary, is because sometimes they are associated with Clowns. Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
I agree, who can really take Tim Currey seriously lol. and think of what the movie might be if they remade it with todays technology
Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Oh no, I'm sorry gang, I think I might've misrepresented my case earlier. First, not all of Tim Curry's scenes as Pennywise were lame; the scene were he's threatening the kids through that book was creepy as heck, and the scene at the beginning with the storm drain... *shivers* I just meant that a lot of other scenes came off as goofy. Like when Pennywise is in the background trying to annoy one grownup character in the library. Tim Curry was perfect for the role.
And about doing it with today's technology...that implies a lot of cgi. And sorry, but almost all uses of cgi in movies and shows are NOT SCARY. A giant cg monster is simply not there, anyone watching will automatically know. Practical effects, animatronics, that's the way to go; just have a big enough budget.
Though I am really looking forward to the new adaptation of Stephen King's IT. I wonder who they could possibly get to play Pennywise.

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
as you put, Tim Currey did a good job with it, be nice to see him play him again, but the kid versions and grown up would have to be different
Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
My favourite scary movie would be... Shutter. The Thailand version. The ending was freaky. O AO
I also liked most of the Asian horror movies like the Grudge, Ring and whatnot. Though, I also enjoyed Ghost Encounters, despite it being too overly exaggerated, it's nice.
AND I WISH FOR A FATAL FRAME MOVIE. ; AAAAAA;

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Wait, you mean have a different person play Pennwise when the characters are kids from when they are adults? That's...that is a brilliant idea! I mean, what you're scared of as an adult can be radically different from when you are a kid, so it would make sense for the creature taking advantage of your fears to look different depending on how old you are!DismayWolf wrote:as you put, Tim Currey did a good job with it, be nice to see him play him again, but the kid versions and grown up would have to be different

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
he meant Tim Curry could still play Pennywise, but the kids who played the kids can't play the kids anymore because they aren't kids anymore and the adults who played the kids as adults are old now.
Pennywise has no specified age, so no matter how old Tim Curry is, he can still play the part.

Re: What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?
Oh. Well duh, of course they'd get new people playing the roles. Ignoring changes in age, what would even be the point of a remake if every character was played by the same actor? I was confused into thinking you mean something else because what you did mean is so obvious I didn't think it possible as a subject.
Anyway, I don't think Tim Curry could play the role of Pennywise again. No offence meant to him, but he seem's to have reached the age when keeping his weight under control is beyond his abilities (this coming from a pretty big guy). I think some scariness would be lost with the fat baby cheeks.

I read the road on the way to chicago for a hockey tournament, I finished it as we were pulling into the hotel, and I was just sitting there thinking "I don't want to do anything today, that was too depressing"The Grey Wolverine wrote:Thats not so much a scary movie, as a movie that just made me sad. I enjoyed that movie immensely. because I think any movie that can make me feel so strongly depressed, happy, or horrified even after so long is an amazing film.
I think that goes for anything, really. if it can make me feel something, or re-think ideas that I have had previously so thoroughly it's...
Good.

My LEAST favorite scary movie is Paranormal Activity, because after I watched it, 'paranormal activity' started to happen to me. >.> (No, I'm not kidding. It's super annoying and kind of scary when something shakes your mattress at two in the morning.) <.< >.> <.< >.>

Hey quick question. What's the best kind of horror movie to watch at night. Zombie related, Werewolf related, or Vampire related? I can't decide!

I know right! I was just watching jeepers creepers 2! Those teenagers are idiots! The only good horror movies are about Poltergeist! I mean like, Paranormal activity was pretty good.
Why can't people make good horror movies anymore! And twilight made vampires just lame now... I'm not sure this should even be in this topic.
