Nah, you're only a hipster if you stop liking them when they become popular.

Laaaaaaaaaaaaame. No longer liking something that you truly enjoy just because it goes mainstream makes me think that the hipster became a sell out to their own personality and passion. If something starts to suck, it starts to suck, regardless of how popular it is.Sleet wrote:Nah, you're only a hipster if you stop liking them when they become popular.

Anyways, once I have a decent picture of my hat, I'll upload it.
Oh, and I've taken to reading furry webcomics in my computer programming class. Nosey teenagers need to learn to leave me alone while I'm on the computer.
Let me tell you about Homestuck.

I did not have the time, the last I visited, to reply. Better late than never.FlintTheSquirrel wrote:To that, I will say that most people avoid or dislike this subculture due to the stereotypes it holds in it. ^^;
That is true, all subcultures have one or two stigma's attached to them but there is usually a good reason for that. But with the furry fandom there is only a small minority that let the rest down, and, as for what I have seen of our subculture, it seems relatively harmless. The real problem is that there is no organisation for the subculture (there is nothing which binds the furry communes together) as well as their being no real...purpose to it all.
If the subculture was organised as a single group we can then address the stereotypes and dispel them (by showing other people that the stereotype is wrong when it comes to us), and once that is done I am sure the subculture will become far more popular. This is what I would suggest.

Official organization just leads to drama, though. I think Kage does a good job as the de facto head furry with dealing with the stereotypes, though he doesn't exactly crack down on that behavior either.

honestly I think that it's best not to worry about it, if people are going to hate furries they will, no skin off my back.

And that is why the situation has not changed, without acting against those that humiliate us (through unifying us, and increasing our voice above and beyond theirs) things will not change, and the general populace will still think badly of the subculture.Sleet wrote:Official organization just leads to drama, though. Though, again, this is just an idea.

Let's cut back on the furry drama before the cries of 'fursecution.' That's not what this thread or these forums are for.

Re: Are You A Furry?
Oh no... here comes Russiarules1 with something awkward.
I was thinking about the many animals that people adopt to be, so, I was just wondering, how many people have chosen a fly?
You know what kind of fly. That little thing that annoys you or just stand on your food for no reason, etc. That kind of fly.

Insects are uncommon but they exist. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few flies in the fandom.

Re: Are You A Furry?
Flies? You mean those little insects that swarm garbage cans when you don't close them properly? I would think a bee would be a bit more aesthetically pleasing choice of insect or maybe a ladybug, praying mantis, or some other colorful insect. It's not that I think that flies can never look good because I've seen some beautiful macro photos of them. It's just that their pesky behavior annoys me. In order to stay relevant to this topic, I'll say I voted "No".

because Zoidberg is a copyrighted character created by someone else.
also, we probably shouldn't post memes for the sole purpose of posting memes.

really? you think moths look better than butterflies?

What about a blobfish? http://forgotten-636.deviantart.com/art ... -202134410
Would you prefer a flying fox (bat) or do they look ugly to you ?http://www2.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Baby ... oRlcrl.jpg
Does an animal even have to be beautiful or cute to make a good anthropomorphic character?
@ChewyChewy I forgot about the moths. Do you have a favorite species of moth?

Moths are not as colorful, but they have really interesting wing patterns.

Re: Are You A Furry?
@Brent: I do. The wings notwithstanding, butterflies look like BUGS. Moths look...almost mammalian in their cuteness, some of them.
@QRS: Not sure. But I like the furry, colorful sorts the best. Like the Atlas moth.
@Kitela: Some of them are, especially in terms of their actual bodies rather than their wings.

Yeah, I'm a furry.
I generally like moths, except when they decide to show up in my bathroom for no good reason, then I just fear them.

Re: Are You A Furry?
Moths are my favorite insect. They always find their way into my house, and they always buzz around my lamp. I watch them fly around for a bit, before I catch them and release them near my street lamp. There's a lot of Spotted Tussock Moths, Gypsy Moths, and Common Swift Moths in my area. And I think the Spotted Tussock Moth larvae actually looks very cute.
Tell me that that little fuzzy crawly thing isn't adorable.
@QRS3000: Blobfishes are gross looking, but for some strange reason, I find them a very pathetic kind of cute. And flying foxes? I love bats very much, and I think they're all either cute or awesome.

I don't mind moths. they're the only insect I can really tolerate in my house. they're annoying, but at least they aren't disgusting like flies.

Re: Are You A Furry?
I find moths funny, they're like little albino butterflies that sleep weird and like to run into lights. The best insect in my opinion, though, is a Caterpillar.
But on the topic of Furry-ness. My friend and I got asked if we were furries because I dressed as Skips and Rigby from Regular Show.
