thinking of myself as a furry actually feels less awkward than thinking of myself as a not-a-furry person.

I guess I just subconsciously knew I was one.

And right on brent, right on.
Love me right now! Done.

If I were to choose something else besides a fox it would be a coyote.

That will pass, and you don't have to think of yourself as a furry just because you have a fursona. If I'm correct, non-furries can have fursonas too.

I go with what's comfy, and if I feel comfy thinking of myself as a furry, I'm a furry.

I WAS DEBATING WHITHER I WAS OR NOT FOR TO LONG AND NOW I HAVE AN ANSWER! DON'T THROW ME BACK INTO THAT STATE OF CONFUSION!
Love me right now! Done.

I have an "unofficial" fursona as a non-furry, but it's more of a "hey look I can do this too" kind of thing rather than a "I'd want to be this if I were an anthro animal"

One thing I have always wondered about the Furry Fandom is why it is not really popular:

- The subculture has been around for about 30 years or so
- Its about our appreciation for animals
- Its relatively creative/artistic in nature (drawings, webcomics, writings, role playing)
- There's anthro's everywhere! (cleaning products, food packaging, books, films, animations, and so on)
- And there are hundreds of millions of people who love animals

I think it is a shame that a subculture, which could be very popular especially in an age when animal protection and environmental conservation is greatly publicised, goes unappreciated as it does.

To that, I will say that most people avoid or dislike this subculture due to the stereotypes it holds in it. ^^;

Yeah. There are plenty of people who would probably be considered furries if they were the types to want anything to do with the fandom.

I for one was initially put off by the idea of furries due to some rather... horrible... stories and saw it as weird. But now that I met y'all I have went from "really weird" to "these guys are funny" :P.

Also if I had to pick a "fursona" I'd choose a polar bear, badger, or Raven.

CoffeeJunkie wrote:I for one was initially put off by the idea of furries due to some rather... horrible... stories
When I first saw an anthropomorphic animal, I fell in love with them! I just knew that I REALLY LOVED THOSE COOL ANIMAL THINGS but after I saw the first, I didn't know what it was called, so I searched 'Animal-human mix characters' or something along those lines. I found some foxes and wolves, and then when I clicked 'show results for Google Images' I screamed in sheer terror at what I saw. (I FORGOT TO PUT SAFE SEARCH ON STRICT INSTEAD OF MODERATE ;_; ) So after doing that, I was like 'WHY? WHY MUST THE INTERNET AGAIN RUIN SOMETHING GOOD FOR ME' but after some careful research I found a whole boatload of safe images and they all now rest in my iPad as backgrounds, slideshows, etc, etc. BUT SERIOUSLY. THE INTERNET IS EVIL.
But as for the first initial sighting of a 'furry' I knew I really liked that, and I just totally fell in love with the idea of anthropomorphic animals, and of course, began to draw them even though I suck at drawing. Needless to say, the road to becoming a furry was a VERY rough one, (curse you internet!!) but I'm glad I found Housepets! because it has a SAFE furry theme, and is just plain awesome. Of course I still do the periodic search for more anthropomorphic animals, but I ALWAYS remember to put safe search on strict now. So I hear where you come from with the horrible stuff part. It's just... so messed up! *shudders*

I bought an orange fox hat from Wal-Mart yesterday. It has the ears that stick up when you wear it. :3 I want to wear it to the football game if I can go. Those kinds of hats are popular at my school, so I'm sure none of the comments will be too weird. XD

Seeing as I haven't posted in this thread yet, I'll go ahead and do so now.
I haven't posted here? I could have sworn that I've posted here before...

Anyways, I used to be a furry, up until quite recently. I recently decided that no, I'm not a furry. But I like furries, and a majority of the ones that I've met (You guys) are pretty awesome people.

Also those hats are really cool, and I want one.

I'm pretty sure I saw a furry girl today at my college, She had a hat like the one Beagle mentioned, except they were what looked like cat ears, and I thought I saw a yellow tail as I was walking by. It might have been orange, I couldn't see the color that well. :3

The combination may not make that much sense, but it's nice to know the are furries over here. I know there are a lot just north of me because the most notable convention is up there.

I dunno, I just kind of thought, "Huh, I don't think I'm a furry." So then I wasn't. Then again, I'm very indecisive, so I might consider myself a furry again sometime.

You came to the conclusion that the furry stuff you like you like just 'cause it's good, and the fact that the characters are anthropomorphic animals doesn't really contribute at all? Or what?
