What's everybody's weapon of choice? Mine are cards.
Humm that is a tough one. I am good with the rapier. I like that one. but I also like short blades, they are better for throwing anf the like. I would say the Ripier though, or the Sythe.

which is why I generalized to blades. plus, you could probably sharpen the other edge of the scythe to make it a bit more practical.

There are styles of Sythes that are designed to fight with and do relativly well aginst other weapons of the period. It is a matter of the skill of the person using it.

In all seriousness, I'd probably select some sort of rifle, like an M-14 or AR-18, as a primary weapon, Colt Kodiak/Anaconda as a secondary, and Glock 27 would be my tertiary. ;3

I beg to differ with you there Psyke.

That's probably because a scythe is a farm tool, not something that was designed to be a weapon.

True, but some things are better at being weapons than others. :3

You are right. I never understood how can you fight with a musical instrument in RO. But that is a discussion of another thread.
I prefer distance weapons.

i didn't say ANY other weapon. I just mean there's always something that will be better than a scythe.

That's right on the money. In fact, that's why it's associated often with the grimm reaper. Because he's a "REAPER." as in, the person who gathers the crops when it's their time to be harvested.

To say a scythe isn't worse than a martial polearm is to say a 2x4 isn't worse than a nightstick. They were improvised weapons and nothing more; they are extremely impractical.
For practicality (at that time period) I'd probably go with a halberd, which was an amazingly effective weapon. Or a naginata, which is faster and not quite as lethal. A shortsword and a shield for closer quarters.
For modern settings, I'm going to assume there's a reason assault rifles are so prevalent and go with that.

Often one of the duo members, the straight man, feed, dead wood, or stooge is portrayed as reasonable and serious, and the other one, the funny man or comic is portrayed as funny, less educated or less intelligent, silly, or unorthodox. When a woman is in the "funny man" role, she is more often referred to as a comic foil.

Scythes were something many people had (as farming was big back then) and technically capable of lethal harm, so it was often used if the common folk needed some form of protection.

So in a comedy duo, does anybody remember what the other one is called? i mean, the one who ISN'T the straight-man.

I hagree that the Halberd would be the best choise of the era. it was definantly one of the longest running and, as you said, most effective. though it is cumbersome to an extent. Thus I sitck with my orgional choise of Rapier.

but what if the 2x4 had a nail sticking out of it?

Throw cards at each other from ten paces until you bleed.
I have to think that "canada" is some sort of quasi-pacifist state of mind, since the country Canada's name is a proper noun and is generally capitalized.

He was "SYK", which I generally felt to be pronounced "sick", so you're not far off there really.
