Re: TWC Updates
There should be a voting incentive, like an "Exclusive Super Special Saturday/Sunday" comic, since we normally go an entire weekend without an update. With an incentive like that, we'd break 20 for sure.

Re: TWC Updates
I don't think you should need an incentive to vote for Housepets!. If you like the comic, vote for it; otherwise, don't.
Housepets! updates three times per week, which is more frequently than the other comics I've read. Saying "I would vote for your comic if you started updating on the weekends" is a bit unfair to Rick, since each comic takes several hours to produce and ultimately this poll isn't that important. What is Rick's incentive? Getting more visitors would of course be nice, but Housepets! isn't produced to make Rick famous or to bring in buckets of money; it's here because Rick enjoys producing it. He's got a pace that he's comfortable with, and I believe he deserves some time off.
Whether it's one "special" comic or a fourth weekly update, Rick is not interested in buying your vote.

Re: TWC Updates
Despite its technically being my competition (okay I'm down in the 70's, but STILL), I vote for Housepets all the time.
And everyone else should. This is a rare gem of a comic, people. SUPPORT IT!

Today is Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Looks like we're stuck in position 27 for all time. That means projections weren't that bad, though!

Where's it on the list now? Still 27, or what? I can't check, I have to go too soon~
I was going to make a joke but then I did.

The strips Housepets are against feature more PG-13-R subjects along with sometimes inane amounts of furry fanservice. Against that there's not a ton you can do.
I'm wary of TWC anyway because none of the mega giants (PA and Sluggy) are even featured on there, but given both have moved past the point of caring about their ranking, I can understand why. I'm tempted to e-mail Tycho over at PA and get a humor-filled reason why he doesn't bother.

I'm making a big load of money with PA, so I don't need gimmick sites for advertising or boosting my ego anymore.

Re: TWC Updates
TWC is more of a way to gain exposure than anything else; if your comic is already huge and you don't need or want a bigger readership, then there's no point in being listed there in the first place.

As much as I hate to resurrect a quiet topic, i just wanted to point out that February has been getting along pretty slowly. As in, from mid-twenties down to mid-fifties slow.
C'mon, guys, you see that little button at least thrice a week on yer screens, let's not forget to click on it, eh?

...aaand cue March! Why not start things out with a bang, eh?
Due to the recent influx of new members, I thought it may be necessary to make sure everybody knows about the TWC voting, in case you guys overlook it. FYI, they'll let you vote, like, four times per day, per network (which, crossing through 2+ networks per day, I take full advantage of).
As of 2/28, 22:42 PST HP! ranks 51.
New people, I want you! to vote for Housepets.[/UncleSam]

This is the first time in a while that I haven't seen Twisted Kaiju Theater in the top ten. They must have momentarily run out of pornography to offer as a voting incentive.

So, I did it. Sorry everybody for animated siggi - I don't really like to make forum look like a cartoon, where everything moves, but it's the best way to not forget about voting...
And, hey! We are taking the 56 place! 5 positions in one day - not bad...

"The Dreamer" has 3 votes more than we have. GUYS!!! TRY HARDER!!!
p.s. And I'm really interested in what place Housepets deservers in Rick's view. I mean, we all know, that housepets can hardly enter the top ten, so what is our goal with this voting? 50th place? 40th?

Re: TWC Updates
It would be really GREAt, if we'll have 50th place...
Re: TWC Updates
I agree. 50th would put us ahead of two other "PG or below" comics. A few months ago we were above "Strays" (PG, rank 26) but I think that's a little too ambitious for this month's goals.RaptorAnton wrote:It would be really GREAt, if we'll have 50th place...
Re: TWC Updates
Part of the problem i'm seeing now is that some of the other sites as i realized are getting somewhat rough with the voting competition. Some of them are willing to post some teasing artwork, extra comics, etc. etc. as part of the reason for increasing the voting drive.
I don't necssarily believe that's what will make Rick's comic popular at all since i think it's fine the way it is, but if there was something i would love to encourage is probably letting others know about the comic: I still think part of the reason Rick's comic isn't as popular as others is because the comic is still not that well known compared to others.

I can vouch for that--I wouldn't have found out about it if someone hadn't broken a rule on another webcomic forum I frequent and posted a parody of a Housepets! comic instead of the comic that forum was for.GameCobra wrote:Part of the problem i'm seeing now is that some of the other sites as i realized are getting somewhat rough with the voting competition. Re: TWC Updates
I trapped to housepetscomic.com after visiting "links" page at site of other web-comic.
And I'm really interested, why housepets still don't have friends. I mean, friend-comics with friend-sites and, of course, friend-links to each other's sites. Some other sites have links to our lovely comic, but we don't have anything like that. Maybe Rick should add such page - at least, like reciprocal politeness to those sites...
And, also, I think that Housepets is popular comic which has too lazy fans, who don't want to vote...

58th.... I vote every day, but one vote per day just isn't enough. Vote people, vote!
Re: TWC Updates
Maybe our button on the main page should be more prominent.
And include text like, "It takes just five seconds!" (unless you have dialup)
And include text like, "It takes just five seconds!" (unless you have dialup)
Like I've said before, it'll let you vote multiple times per day (If you yourself are able), even though it says "you can vote again in x hours". You just have to space them out over, like, four hours or so.Alex wrote:58th.... I vote every day, but one vote per day just isn't enough. Vote people, vote!
