Dog Films

Post by Agent Sandwich »

I was wondering if there are any dog films you could recommend. I've seen All Dogs Go to Heaven pop up a few times on the forum and in the comic.

There's Homeward Bound. I didn't like it, but it's supposed to be a classic.

Also, you can't forget the classic Old Yeller.

You can watch Where The Red Fern Grows, but it is incredibly sad. Watch at your own risk.

Santa Buddies!

*shot in the face*

Sorry. I meant Bolt. That's a good recent dog movie to go with all these classics.

I'll try Bolt. I kept pushing it aside because it was a Disney film...

It's actually pretty good...if you don't mind Miley Cyrus' voice.

I survived Avril Lavigne's voice in Over the Hedge. Miley should be okay :P

Actually I thought Miley Cyrus did a pretty good job in Bolt. I came out of the theater hoping she would drop her singing career to try voice acting instead.

Off-topic tangent: I still need to see Over the Hedge.

Yes, if only she would stick to voice acting...and Over the Hedge, I've seen it, but I don't remember it too well anymore...

On topic: Marmaduke.

I didn't watch it, no. It was just what came to mind.

Just don't go see Marley & Me. That's a terribly sad ending there.

Oh god! Marley and Me! I read the book before watching the movie and found it very disappointing! Funnily enough I was watching the movie with my golden retriever on my sister's laptop. I started cuddling her when they were putting Marley to eternal peace.

Marmaduke is a terrible, terrible movie from everything I've heard. Most dog movies are, sadly. Bolt is good because it's a movie about dogs that's primarily for children, but has zero poop jokes. :P

Marley & Me was terrible, but the ending was unbelievably emotional. You don't even have to put it in spoilers. You know exactly what happens.

I like "Bolt" because it reminds me of "Lady and the Tramp" and "101 Dalmatians". Unlike most talking animal CGI films, the animals actually move like their real life counterparts and it doesn't get too cartoony. Even Rhino doesn't go too far. I like it for the same reasons I like Tangled (They were made by most of the same people). They put in modern sensibilities into a type of Disney animated film but they keep the essentials and heart you love from those films.

Just when I about to name some, Copper already said most of them. Now the only one I can think of is a disney movie called "Oliver & Company" althought the cat is the main character, but there are dog characters.

I shied away from that one because of the cat.

There is that one movie that came out a couple of years ago called Alpha and Omega, about the wolves. I never saw it, but it was an animated movie.

Well, I thought Bolt had the same plot as Toy story, but with animals instead of toys.
I also am a huge Balto fan, but justthe first movie. The second and third are horrible.
Oliver and company have some interesting dogs too.

I just don't like wacky misbehaving dog antics. When it got emotional, it was much better (and wow did it get emotional). I was just annoyed through most of it.

Any live-action film that doesn't use computers to move the animals' mouths. (Homeward Bound is your best bet here!)
Also Bolt, Balto, and Fox & the Hound.
