Re: Music.
Thanks for your recommendations, guys. I've heard of most of the bands you listed, and at least one song by them. I think I'm gonna get the discography of Avenged Sevenfold next. And after I listen through that and add to my playlist... well... we'll see. I should probably get an Last.fm account.

Also, it's totally cool that the video focuses on the drummer.

I know that, but the opening riff is made because the song was named YYZ, and not vice-versa. I think.....Sleet wrote:YYZ is what the opening riff spells in Morse code. -.---.----..

Also, Psykeout, what song is that? It's not available in my country.

Re: Music.
Well that's the code for the airport in Toronto or somewhere I think. I guess it's kind of arbitrary in that sense.Alex wrote:I know that, but the opening riff is made because the song was named YYZ, and not vice-versa. I wanted to try to avoid that one though, it is a tinge overplayed, I blame the Iron Man movies.Alex wrote:Yeah, great idea to link to Black Sabbath. Can't mention them without linking this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LjbMVXj0F8

Re: Music.
Honestly I still think that when people look back at the "tens" there will be less music to remember fondly. We can just keep going back further and further in history and in the end music just seems to be getting... well, not worse, but more packaged. That could be good for some people and bad for others.Sleet wrote:For the most part, old music is "better" than new music because we have to listen to all the crap that makes it on the radio. When we hear old music, we hear the best of the best that still gets remembered decades later. There was trite garbage on the radio back then too. 30 years from now people will be looking back fondly at the music of the tens, and they won't even think about Justin Bieber.
The way I see it music was just a fun and meaningful thing for most of history up until the invention of the music industry (or shortly after that.) As the sixties began music started becoming especially meaningful (because of the hectic times, like the thirties and forties) and some very talented people began performing and soon the industries realized that they could make lots of money from this, which they have been ever since. From then up until the mid nineties music was both profitable and very personal and meaningful, but after that it seems that for the first time in history the focus has shifted very heavily towards money and people realized, "hey, we don't need to put much effort into the music anymore"
That's the way I see, but I'm sure that you guys have good ideas too
I'm sorry for my biases, and I would be much more excepting of current music if most of the people at my school didn't try to beat me over the head with it. Like when these kids found out that I liked sixties music they said, "Hah, so you like that gay Elvis and stupid Disco? What's wrong with you? Eminem and Lady Gaga are way better than that ****. The doors? Hah! You like a band about doors?! What's wrong with you?! Steely Dan? That's a stupid name, therefore there music must suck!" I still haven't been able to explain to them that DISCO IS FROM THE 70s and ELVIS PERFORMED IN THE 50s. Not to mention that I don't like Elvis Presley or any Disco music anyway

Re: Music.
Well, Psychadelic punk, not really the kind of punk rock that I listen to. But, I'm sure no one cares, but I've been listening to this punk band a lot lately, they're NOFX, and they're pretty cool. They don't yell like some people might think punk bands do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6axOY4PBuskAlex M. wrote:

To be perfectly honest I hadn't listened to them in years and someone randomly mentioned them yesterday, so I was like "okay why not".
