TWC Updates
Housepets! is now #46 on the the list. Today is the 20th of December, 2009.
That is all.

Re: TWC Updates
Well, what did you expect, Teh Bralwer? Housepets is an awesome comic, after all .
Re: TWC Updates
Hm. A quick projection would put Housepets in slot 22 at the end of this month, although that doesn't really account for new readers brought in by the strips rapid rise on the chart.
Discounting that, a full months voting - slightly tempered by some of the enthusiasm wearing off but presuming that most of the other top comics have been on the list for some time and have a relatively stable voting rate - would put Housepets comfortably around slot 15.
A rise in readership due to the additional exposure is difficult to extrapolate, but might put it in the top ten in relatively short order.
Please be aware that the margin of error here is quite substantial.

Re: TWC Updates
The reason it isn't number one can be explained in three words, children: lack of smut. If Rick wanted to be #1, all he'd have to do is get just a little bit dirtier, and I can assure you Housepets! would zoom to the top. But, thankfully, Rick knows that sex isn't the answer to everything.

Re: TWC Updates
so now the comic is tied at the 2000 votes now through the weekend. this shows, in my opinion, that Housepets is the fastest comic gaining votes.
If this keeps up for a whole 1 and a half years, Housepets could potentially hit #1!

I think the votes reset monthly. But still, without a voting incentive? Housepets is kicking...butt. Yes, we'll go with that.GameCobra wrote:so now the comic is tied at the 2000 votes now through the weekend. this shows, in my opinion, that Housepets is the fastest comic gaining votes.

not sure about monthly.
although as i doublecheck the traffic on the site, seems the top comics are indeed getting a steady stream of votes as well, but having over 30,000 votes in one month? @_@;
I'm sure earlier this month they didn't have that many!
only one way to find out: Wait til new years!

Yes well I wouldn't be surprised if earlier in the month there were less votes than later in the month!

2,328 votes without voting incentive?
Not bad.
Not bad.
Phoenix Requiem is almost as long the uncontested #1 as it's registered there and others like 2K can mobilize huge amounts of fans, so that's nothing out of the ordinary.GameCobra wrote:the top comics are indeed getting a steady stream of votes as well, but having over 30,000 votes in one month? @_@

And, sadly, the Housepets voting rate seems to have slowed slightly as the novelty has worn off.
Re: TWC Updates
Housepets also has it's own niche. It's hard to compare Housepets to some of the others in TWC.
I also noticed that two of the really -big- 800 apes aren't on TWC, such as Sluggy and PA, so it makes me wonder if TWC is little more then something to brag about e-fame wise, as PA (And it's Gabe created offshoots) would take 1 in 7 out of the 8 spots..but then again, PA's evolved far past the point where it needs to care about something like TWC anyway (So has Sluggy)

True, but i like to look at it as a hint of what's to come if Rick can at least hit the top 10 a few times.Foxstar wrote:Housepets also has it's own niche. It's hard to compare Housepets to some of the others in TWC.

the new year is coming, and i look forward to seeing how many times Rick can at least hit the top 10 a few times, just to show a sign of things to come =)

Re: TWC Updates
Let's do the math, shall we?
If Housepets! were to have a net gain of 3 votes per day, it will easily reach #22 by the end of this year. However, seeing how many votes were being cast today, combined with a rapidly-growing audience (as well as fan base) this is a low-end prediction. This is 7 spots from the current position.
The mid-range prediction, assuming a net gain of 5 votes per day, would place it on the Top 20 list at #20 by the end of this year. This is 10 spots from the current prediction.
A high-end prediction would assume a net gain of 10 votes per day. This would place the comic on the Top 15 list by the end of the year, at number 15. This is 15 spots from the current position, and a very remarkable feat indeed.
>In order to become a Top 10 comic, there will have to be a net gain of at least 24 votes per day.
>A "Net Gain" is the amount of votes for Housepets! minus the votes for the next-highest comic in a 24-hour period.

Re: TWC Updates
Yep - thus the original projection based on the first few days voting of roughly 4000 votes before the end of the month and a final position for this month of around slot 22.
There was a much longer history available on the other comics, which made them much easier; presuming a stable rate on them seems to have come fairly close.
Sadly, the initial voting enthusiasm apparently waned somewhat, and picking up new readers has yet to make up for that. I'd ignored both factors since there wasn't enough information available to include them - but I had hoped that it would pick up as quickly as the comic deserves.
It's still a remarkably good showing for a little over half a month though.

Re: TWC Updates
Let me say this again: I was projecting a net gain, which is the number of votes for this comic minus the votes on the comic in the next position. The higher positions do not matter until we reach the level below the comic in question.Dylan wrote:But don't forget that other comic's have voters too.
That really doesn't matter. What really matters is the rate in which the votes are cast, which will ultimately determine the positions of the comics. Thoth, you may have a point.Liam wrote:The rankings get reset monthly
Re: TWC Updates
Oh, let's stop bickering over projected gain like we're at a Microsoft board meeting. All we need to remember is that we should vote as often as permitted to support Rick in his endeavors. Besides, even if we stay in our current spot, that's not so bad, is it? Small communities are nice too.
Re: TWC Updates
Who's bickering? Statistical projection of things which don't actually matter much is an intellectual puzzle-game, just like the Dossier thread.
It's much more interesting to be wrong, and figure out where you went wrong, than it is to be right the first time.

Re: TWC Updates
To be very honest? I think Housepets could reach the top 10.
Rick's comic has one of the most talented story driven comics out there that anyone of all ages can enjoy, even at a PG rating in my honest opinion. it's been two years and his comic still feels very fresh for many viewers.
the only real problem i find is that Housepets i feel is just still too new and apparantly most of the comics on TWC are PG-13 and over. i'm willing to bet that most people that enjoy them comics enjoy the other side of things that Rick's comic lacks, but are missing out just how well written in the areas that Rick focuses on.
i'm sure if some of the other comic sites get a little wind of Housepets more, Rick's comic votes will blossom alot more.

Well, I had meant this month! Housepets has got a bunch of the good stuff goin' for it, we're just a bit new, as you mentioned. What Thoth said about the voting rate slipping once the novelty wore off seems to be true - we don't exactly have very many active voters, compared to some of the others there. Let's see how we do this month around.
I was going to make a joke but then I did.
