That Max didn't want ghosts in the first place, but now he wants them.

But Sabrina looks pretty angry in the last panel.
That...doesn't make it any clearer.... I don't mean to be dense but I have no idea what they said in the last panel....

For starters, your list was just 0-10, not 1-10. Also, if it's an arbitrarily quantified system like that, orders of magnitude would be meaningless because there's only two.

What would you rank a house that changes shape, ignores the rules of geometry, is older than the solar system and larger than the earth, drives people to kill each other and swallows your comic relief brother out of nowhere? That definitely is creepier than anything on your scale.

Oh right, why did I put 0 in there. Oh well.

Yup, I figured it only boils down to scary or not.

Grape believes that Sabrina was able to manipulate Max into letting her join their Scare Crew by acting like she didn't want in on it (due to her and Max's prior history and antagonism toward one another).

In reality, Sabrina openly volunteered, and Max is being a jerkwad to her anyway because that's kind of what he does.

I was speaking mathematically. An order of magnitude can generally be considered how many digits a number has (though it gets more complicated when you go below 1). 10 is an order of magnitude larger than 1, and everything else is in between, so you'd only have two.

Okay, the latter part I understand, but why would Grape think that? Wasn't she THERE when Sabrina openly volunteered?

I'm sorry, I'm still confused.... :(

Not exactly. Initially, Max is vocally opposed to the idea of letting Sabrina join, but relents when she calls him out on it; Grape assumes that this was some kind of sly trickery on Sabrina's part, but she's wrong. You can see how exasperated Sabrina is in the final panel when she was just trying to help.

The thing is, Sabrina said she was coming to make sure the house WASN'T haunted, and Grape thinks that Sabrina was only PRETENDING to come for that reason and was really trying to join their scare fest. That's the "reverse psychology".

Is that right?

Even in the event that I don't get a joke, I usually get some residual humor from the fact that a joke went over my head.

Okay, Chewy is correct. Look at it this way:

- Sabrina accompanies Max and Grape to verify that the house is, in fact, haunted. He doesn't want Sabrina as part of their fright crew because A) she's his ex, and B) she's kinda-psychic, which is bad.

- Sabrina informs Max that the house is not haunted at all.

- Max finds this unacceptable, because the house needs to be haunted in order to be scary, and forcibly recruits Sabrina so the lot of them can actually summon up something suitable.

- Grape is very impressed that Sabrina has gone from being forbidden to being a member of the team, and thinks this was her plan all along; Sabrina, however, is less than enthusiastic.

Okay, so I was on the right TRACK. Sabrina was going to check to make sure the house wasn't haunted, and Max WANTED it to be haunted....

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive....
