Either Shadow Kanji or Shadow Mitsuo, both in Persona 4; the former was a massive stereotype, though, but it was kind of funny seeing the reactions of the team at his fight, and the latter was an interesting bit of symbolism. It appeared like an 8-bit character, and when he attacked, the screen and effects were reminiscent of the original Megami Tensei games, then when damaged enough, it became a dark baby, showing that Mitsuo always wore a shell to hide himself. Remake even included an 8-bit remix of the boss theme.

Samurai pizza cats.

Unfortunately unlike other shows of it's era there's no hope of a revival, sequel, or adaptation. ever. for the simple reason that modern media watchdogs would never allow a character named Guido in a children's show (either it didn't have racial connotations yet in the late 80s, or the writers thought the pun his full name makes was worth the ruffled feathers), and the fans would never accept one of the three main characters being replaced...

I almost said the Strange Journey protagonist, but his morality is based on the players decisions, so I'll go with Kratos. His mission was started to avenge the family he was tricked into killing. It's said that he loved them dearly, but he lets his rage consume him, eventually to the point of not caring if the world is destroyed and innocents die in his quest, with very few exceptions.

Older than me as in was on air before I was born, or older as in has been on air more than 29+ years total?
for the former, "Robotech: The Macross Saga" is the only one I'm familiar with that I'm certain predates the mid 80s. and even then I only remember half an episode at this point.

Possibly transformers? I started with the beast era though, which is 90s. Does that still count?

for the latter... uh... again, possibly transformers, but theres a 5 year hiatus between G2 and BeastWars that might disqualify it...

.

eh, whatever.
a series (in any medium or format) from 1995 or earlier, which you really like, that has not withstood the test of time.

Re: Favorite _____ Game

Post by D-Rock »

Yeah, I meant the former.

And to answer your question, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Hear me out.

I was born just a year before it aired, but I caught up on the series through reruns and tapes we owned. I loved every minute of it. My brother and I have not had our love of the series diminish over the years.

But despite it being a big part of our lives, despite the major part of our memories the series holds in us, it really didn't age well. I realized this when we sat down and watched through the original series again about a year ago. Acting was always fluctuating between good and bad, dialogue was weird in a lot of ways, way too many things were too convenient, Jason didn't seem to have a concept of an indoor voice when morphed, a few of the fight scenes weren't too interesting, and quite a few edits were rather lazy (I mean, come on, you couldn't shoot two seconds worth of footage of Tommy rising from a table and resorted to Burai stock footage when immediately after that we see Tommy on said table?!). I know that I'm being a bit harsh on it, considering that the company was likely learning as they went and the limited budget they had, but it's not the best installment on the series. What we can still appreciate is how much we loved it and how much of a legacy in carries now. If it weren't for Saban trying to adapt a Sentai series after his first attempt at it failed (from what I read, Bioman was the first he considered to adapt but plans fell through, eventually leading him to try again with Zyuranger), we most likely would never have come to appreciate it.

I guess it's like looking at the first thing you drew; it's probably not great, likely doesn't hold a candle to what you can do now, but it's what started you on the path you're on now, and for that, you can have a sense of pride.

...I almost forgot why I was writing this in the first place. :?

So, favorite song from the 80s? Even I have a few, and I was born in '92.

That's a really tough question, but either Flowey from Undertale, or oliphants from Xenoblade. Both are really interesting and complex characters, and both are part of incredible plot twists in their respective games.

Edit: Apparently I'm not able to type that second character's name on these forums for some reason. I don't want to say anything more about the character as to not spoil who they are, since it is a fairly big plot twist. If you've played the game, you might know who I'm talking about anyway.
