A while back I mentioned in the reading discussion thread that I'd picked up a book series called So I'm A Spider, So What? I have since read all seven English novel translations, read both mangas, and joined the fan discord. You might say I've been going a little nuts over it... and you'd have no idea just how much.

Its a great series for "what if" and "what would I do?" scenarios. I had a bunch of them stuck in my head, and while they wouldn't go away, I kept coming up with more ideas. Eventually, I decided there was only one solution: write a fanfic to get all these ideas out and onto a page where I can stop thinking about them.

If you've noted the name of this thread, you might have noticed that I don't have a high opinion of self-insert fanfiction. I think it's a breeding ground for Mary Sues and author power fantasies. In this fanfic, I aim to avoid that as best as I can, and tell a story with real stakes and a character (me) you can invest in.


I'm up to 40,000 words across 8 chapters so far. In this time of self-isolation, I don't have much better to do than write and draw.

Probably not. Judging from how many people I had RP with me and tell me how I suck they probably were bad or I just am lousy at RPing. >_<

Don't be so harsh on yourself, chum.

Given how I have been treated by other kids when I was younger and in school, its kind of hard for me not to be negative about myself. I also don't know why Obbl cares about it so much.

That problem we never had, thanks to a large Indigo snake who lived in the crawl space under our house. When we finally sold the house, we left the owners a list contact phone numbers and also this advice. "If you don't like snakes, learn to like Indigo. Or learn to like rats, mice, and other vermin. You will only see Indigo two or three times a year. You won't see the rats until they reach ten pounds after which you will see them everywhere all the time!"

Really nice proportions - dramatic and realistic.

The spider also looks very adorable in that picture and the expression makes it even cuter! ^_^

I'm really proud of how it came out. It looks almost exactly how I want it to.

I honestly would be more open to spiders if they looked like that. Though I can either take them or leave them.

The fun part is that this is only how the main character imagines he looks.

The reality is that he looks like a creepy, terrifyingly realistic monster spider, and he's the size of a minivan.

I really need to go and read up on the synopsis of the actual anime and see what it is all about because this sounds all amusing. XD

I catch them in the house, I take them outside.
We have a Golden Garden spider just starting her web on the power meter on the garage. We usually get one or two of them each year. They're very colorful and imposing.

They sound beautiful also and are proof that Mother Nature can make beautiful and inspiring variations of species that we normally freak out at seeing and run screaming all through the night.

Oh, the anime isn't out yet. There's a webnovel, a light novel series, and a manga.

I started with the manga then read the LN series. That way, you start off with good visuals, then you get to learn more about the setting (the manga removes half the story.)

Don't bother with the WN, much of the translation is awful.

I don't have access to a web-novel, light novel series or manga as I don't have the funds to buy them or know where the heck to get them so I might just try to find a recap page.

The manga (even translated!) can actually be found for free online.

The pendant is a timepiece. It's based on really early watch designs, so it looks like a copper ball from the outside.

Since medieval spring technology is basically useless, this timepiece actually makes use of some very complex magic, giving it accurate timing for seconds and hours.

Given the nature of magic in the world he's from, it can be understood that the spell used was not originally intended for this purpose, and is wildly overcomplicated for the job. As such, it's a very rare and expensive item. Only a nobleman would own one.

Personally I think that he looks much better in the fanfic now as a spider than a human. XD

Uh... Odysseus and Orion are different characters. Like, they meet each other!

Orion being the spider.


Maybe the fact that Orion also has a sword (as of chapter 23, anyway) could be a bit confusing. Odysseus first appears in chapter 25, and doesn't get named until chapter 31.

That is probably the reason why. I got confused because of the sword. I automatically jumped to that conclusion. So that is on me. I screwed up there. I assumed wrong. Probably would help if I didn't waste time and actually got to reading more than a few chapters in. My life is only busy because I'm bad at procrastinating. <_<

I will try to get around to reading more of it soon but considering that Mother's Day is coming up and this will be my mother's first one without her mother (my grandmother) I might have my hands full dealing with that.

I understand entirely.

My Mum passed from cancer recently. Writing has been a big help dealing with that.
