Official Artistic Gifts

Hey guys and welcome to Artistic Gifts, also known as Secret Doodle Santa.
The way this work is similar to the way Secret Santa works.
You get one person you have to draw and nobody else knows who you have or who has you. Sounds simple right?

CY_Law wrote:Right, since it's the first on the forum, it's kinda inevitable for it to be a clutter,
we have since proposed on following the current pattern:
1)Planning(We would probably have a "committee" for that.)
2)Recruiting(Self explanatory, we would announce the detail of a new round, including time starts, time ends, list of people, rules etc)
3)Assign(Where we would contact the participants, privately, about the details of who they're drawing for)
4)Starts(We would start off the event at whatever we planned beforehand)
5)Draw(Self explanatory)
6)End(Where the event stop, possibly a little extra time for sorting out the submissions, usually 24 hours after the even starts)
7)Post(Where either everyone, (or have one people to collect all submissions) post their respective drawings)
8)Comment(If any)
9)Rinse and repeat
The committee of awesome: Laxan, CY_Law, Nickiestyer, Kaido, Vadiant and Starswifter
These 6 people are the ones to contact if you have a problem or have any questions.-

FAQ:
Q) I don't know how to draw can I join?
A) You still *can* join, but take this into account, the primary objective is that, you draw something for someone else, you have to make sure you came up with something in the end, we would try to tolerate with late submission or none at all, considering you have a valid reason. You wouldn't want to disappoint others do you? xD

Q) I don't know who the person I'm meant to be drawing looks like, what should I do?
A) You should PM (preferably) Starswifter or another one of the Committee. They will contact the person for you and get the information you need.

Q) What should I draw?
A) Generally you draw the person's fursona or Persona. If you are unsure contact the Master Randomizer or someone on the committee to ask what your target wishes you to draw.

Q) Is there any special place we should upload?
A) No, but Tinypic or Imageshack is suggested because people can't sneak a look then. After the initial showings you may upload the drawings to anywhere you wish.

Q) Where should I post the result?
A) PM the result to the Master Randomizer. They will post your drawing with the rest at the right time. This solves time

Q) What if I do not post on time? Are there a consequences?
A) As of yet, nothing but we may add in a minor punishment which would be along the lines off 'Locked out for x amount of rounds'. But as of yet there isn't one.

Q) Who will draw the numbers?
A) Starswifter, he's the Master Randomizer

Q) How will I find out who to draw?
A) You will be PM'd by the master organizer who will asked you for a number and give you a name in return.

Q) How will we know when the event starts?
A) A PM will be sent to all participants on the start date after they have signed up, the starting date will also be listed on the OP.

Q) What's the point on doing this?
A) For pure fun, you join, you draw, and you are guaranteed to get a drawing in return, take it as an art trade, even if you're not joining, you can still view what others have drawn.

Q) I did a full picture! Fully detailed, outlined, colored shaded, background and all I got was a bad stick figure. How is that fair?
A) You need to remember that some people may not have your ability and no matter what the outcome looks like, somebody put their heart and soul into a drawing just for you. That's something special of it's own right isn't it?

Q: Do I have to wait until the end time to hand-in?
A: No, you can hand-in your drawing as soon as it is done.

Q: Which timezone are the times in?
A: The timezone is GMT (or GMT+1 is Daylight Saving Time is enabled) which should make it easy for everyone to calculate the time in their own timezone.

If you have a question you don't see here, please contact someone of the committee.

Zander wrote:I submitted mine, I'm guessing all of them will be posted on Sunday?
Well, Monday actually so those on the west coast (I do not know if any of you actually live there) can't say that you did not have the entire Sunday. Blame this on just "Sunday" being specified, next time a specific time and timezone should be specified ...

I'm on the east coast. What about it then? :o

Zander wrote:I'm on the east coast. What about it then? :o
All drawings will be posted at the same time as noted in the FAQ, and I have chosen to follow the west coast since a timezone have not been specified. The reason for that is so no one could blame me for not having the entire Sunday to draw. Had I chosen to follow some other timezone, you in the US would loose some hours and would initially be marked as being late. But by choosing to follow the west coast, that means those in Asia will have more time to complete their drawing than anyone else.

I have tried to make it fair, and next time there will be specific timezones noted on all deadlines. I for one would very much like to avoid being in this situation again :|

There were 2 weeks to draw, there's almost no excuse to not have at least a sketch in yet. Considering those of us that drew a full shaded piece have them in most likely. x3

How many havnt turned theirs in yet?

When's the next "round"?

I do not know that, but when Laxan gets back online I will ask her to clean the signup form so it will be ready for the next round. A suggestion have been around Halloween, which might happen, but I hope that there will be a round between that and now.

Personally, I find special events like Halloween, or Thanksgiving a perfect chance to set a theme for our requests. Instead of the old... "Oh, here's your fursona", make it "Here's your fursona as a pilgrim" or something like that.

It looks like this project was successful but why are there so few artists? Speaking for myself, I don't have a character that I use to represent me. I used to have this one Canadian fox character......so yeah :|

You could've just used your actual self, or just made up a fursona even though you're a human.

From the FAQ:
Q) What should I draw?
A) Generally you draw the person's fursona or Persona. If you are unsure contact the Master Randomizer or someone on the committee to ask what your target wishes you to draw.
When signing up, you would typically insert a description of your own fursona or persona, whatever you prefer, but there is nothing that prevents you of inserting the description of other character. Maybe you want a drawing of one of your characters from a RP? Maybe you have some kind of idea for a persona/fursona, and would like to get it visualized. In both cases, if you sign up with a description of some character that have not been drawn yet, the end result might not be what you imagined. You must be open for an alternative interpretation of the description. If you can't live with that, it might be better to arrange a commission from someone instead :)
Had I been able to draw characters myself, then I would have signed up with the idea for a fursona that I have

As a small summary of the character descriptions that we received: there were a couple which only provided a description without any drawings to look at, and we had a single human character (guess who!).

EVERYONE, GATHER!

The signup for the next SDS have started, and it will be done like the last time. You can find the signup form here. If you have participated before, you can leave the description field empty and your old description will be used. The original post which contains all information can be found here.

Signup closes: 19th of October at 12 PM
Start: 23th of October at 12 PM
End: 30th of October at 12 PM

Changes since the last time:
The time from start to end have been shortened to seven days, and two new questions have been added to the FAQ:

Q: Do I have to wait until the end time to hand-in?
A: No, you can hand-in your drawing as soon as it is done.

Q: Which timezone are the times in?
A: The timezone is GMT (or GMT+1 is Daylight Saving Time is enabled) which should make it easy for everyone to calculate the time in their own timezone.

If there are any questions, do not hesitate to send me or anyone from the committee a PM, and we will answer it as quick a possible.
So, spread the word to everyone that might be interested and let us have some more fun!

Yup! The whole point of it is to do something nice for someone. Your drawing capabilities do not matter here.
