Re: French translation: current strip
Update.
One-off, Show And Tell
Note de traduction : l'expression "Show and Tell" est utilisée couramment en français dans le secteur du marketing car il n'existe pas de véritable équivalent. Toutefois, pour les réfractaires à la langue anglaise, j'ai mis une traduction sommaire du titre entre parenthèses.
Translation note: the phrase "Show and Tell" is commonly used in French in the marketing industry because there is no real equivalent. However, for the refractory at the English language, I put a rough translation of the title between parentheses.
Translation quality : 4/5

The first to guess why I took more time than valerio to translate the strip will become a virtual paper hat!

I thought you were gonna name Grape Raisin!
Also, I like how French insists on having their own words for everything!

Re: French translation: Your Mind Makes It Real
In fact, I do not use Raison for Grape because it is a proper name. I doubt with Pridelands, but I ended up leaving as is (it saves space and it sounds better). *go to complete the list on the first post*rickgriffin wrote:I thought you were gonna name Grape Raisin!
I guess that's a compliment? In fact, the French they use an English word every two sentences (or more). But sometimes it does not mean anything anymore, besides being very badly pronounced: /.Also, I like how French insists on having their own words for everything!
The French literature is a little different, although I am not the letter of the rules of the French Academy of Arts for the translation (it is they who love transform all English words in French, but that does not necessarily follow to the rest of the population, and fortunately). xD
The biggest problem I encounter in translations concerns mainly incomprehensible slang words and interjections. Fortunately, Wiktionary is my best friend!
Another reason that leads me to translate almost all in French, is that the teaching of languages in France is completely done wrong. Consequence: more than half the population speaks very little English and our accent is even harder to understand than the Scottish! (hear my classmates read in English class is a real torture -_-").
Phonetic example to finish : "Do you swimming pool?"=>« Dou iou souiming poule ? »
Well, 3:30 am here, I go to sleep. >_>

Re: French translation: the last 3 strips
heh, I find it funny, Foldo, that french sentences are often structurally so closer to my italian
Re: French translation: the last 3 strips
This sentence was in a French scolarbook. I swear. It's a national disaster. :/rickgriffin wrote:"Do you swimming pool?" is not an actual sentence
Example for fun of a French word derived from English: the verb "plussoyer" from "+1".
We all wondered why. xDvalerio wrote:heh, I find it funny, Foldo, that french sentences are often structurally so closer to my italian

Re: French translation: 4 Old Strips
In fact, "Du balai !" means "Shoo!" or "Out!" And as the literal translation of the original expression of the strip lost its meaning, I replaced the phrase with one that containing the word "broom" in French.rickgriffin wrote:Okay, I have GOT to know what 'Du Balai' means

Re: French translation: 4 Old Strips
Very glad you're still doing these! Only just looked at the translations section today, and when I saw that French only had 2 pages I thought you must have stopped. Not read them all yet, but they're certainly helping me with my French. I got a B when I studied it in my final compulsory school year, but then a U in my optional further studies, so I kinda have room to improve ^^

Re: French translation: I Have Decided To Start A New Comic
Update... with an old strip.
I created a Spot font from the strips (3 weeks of work on my freetime but not still finished) because I'm very lazy. This will allow me to go faster in future translations.
