Fen'rus followed after the wolf, picking up some seasoned meat and a familiar looking fruit along the way. "Of course not sir, and I'll be ready! Err, as ready as I can be. But I'm willing to put in the work. Perseverance is really the only thing I have going for me."
Buster wrote:"They do that sometimes. they are beings with their own desires after all." he points out with a shrug, when the subject shift's to vi's absence.

"you're lucky to already have one." one of the other students points out, murmers of agreement coming from several other students.
"Outside of my village I honestly wasn't sure if having an etherial partner was a rare thing or not." The wolf smiled, taking a bite out of his forest fruit. "I didn't even know Vi was one until we looked it up together. I thought she was just some... strange ghost. One that happened to like hanging around me." Fen'rus paused, taking another bite from his tray of food.

"So then... how do people usually get their etherials? I think I remember Vi telling me you had to have one to like... channel your mana through."

"Uhh yeah, you're like. Made out of shadows and mana and stuff. That like, automatically puts you pretty high on the cool spectrum. Like me, I'm awesome!" The fuzzy figure gave a toothy grin as she followed Dusk down the stairs.

"Oh wow! It's... lively down here. And ooh look they serve food here too! I should tell Fen about this place..."

Noticing this, Kassalya put a hand on his shoulder, somewhat thankful his weird clothes kept the sparks from zapping her. "You'll be fine, David. It's only natural for people to stare. You're probably the most interesting person here. I'd be highly skeptical if any of these guys claimed to have ever seen a human before." She leaned a bit closer to him and whispered in his ear. "Though my advice? Stop looking like you're trying to vanish from the physical plane through a portal in your hood. It's just making you stand out more." She pulled back from him and gave him a pat on the back.

David glanced once more at the gossiping students. After a moment, he sighed and tried to force himself to relax. He took several deep breaths, and felt the buzzing static in his head dissipate slightly. David took note of this effect calming down had on his powers for future reference as he waited for the crowd to gather again. At the very least, his eyes were no longer flashing blue.
Hope had felt a rather faint, but rather familiar energy near her as she looked over at the crowd. Remembering her time at the range not even an hour or so ago, she moved through the students in front of David. "David? I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wanted to visit the Library." A smile graced Hope's muzzle upon seeing the familiar face.

"Too bad I don't need to eat any of it, I don't even think we can taste food, can we?" He asked his fellow ethereal.

David looked up looking a little concerned and looked around for the source of his name. He saw Hope walking through the crowd and relaxed a little. He at least knew Hope was trying to be friendly. "Oh... Hey, uh... Hope, right?" he said. He was never particularly good with names. "Yeah, I was hoping I might find something on controlling lightning magic here. Or if not, then something that might help me figure out how planar gates work."

Hope smiled when he remembered her name. "Yeah, it's Hope." She gave a look at Kassalya before looking back at David.

"I was hoping to learn more about the gods themselves, or at least the culture here. The least I want to do for my House is entangle them in...foreign affairs on my behalf." She took a step closer to David, as she kept her hands by her side.

"I'm sorry about earlier David. I was wrong...I know our situations are different. I think I misspoke when we last talked. But in the moment, my past and those words were all I could relate to you. "I don't think I share your want to open the planar gates." She concluded.

the cafe's patrons don't seem dangerous, for the most part they look like a mix of travelers who had stayed the night here, and local working class laurae and kigrei. the ambient conversation is pleasant, if muddled, and the smells are enticing.

David sighed and shook his head. "It's fine, it's just... You're here because you want to be here. You're here firstly to learn. If you wanted to, you could go right back home to your friends and family," he started.

"I... don't have that choice. I'm at this school because I have absolutely no where else to be. It's not even like my family is on another continent. They're in another plane of reality entirely. A plane of reality not even the explorer's guild has any clue on how to send me back to since I got here by complete accident." David said. He was finally starting to open up a little, and Kassalya looked at him with an almost proud expression. He returned the look with one that clearly said oh hush before continuing. "That's why I want to study the planar gates. I want to go home."

"I guess I should take back wanting to learn about the planar gates, then." She said giving David a rather playful smirk before she put up her hood from her cloak. She covered up her entire face, save for her muzzle. Giving a giggle, she looked at David. "You're not the only on who likes hoods, you know?"

She walked towards him, placing a hand on his shoulder, before she pulled back the hood, her eyes staring into his. "You're right on one thing however. I do have a choice..." It seemed David's words had hit home for Hope, nothing meant more to her than her family, and right now she could tell that David would have a long way to go before he ever could even see his again.

"So I'll make you a promise, then. I won't step foot within my own country until you get to see your family again." Hope seemed determined, and there was a sound of a certain conviction in her words.

"No." David said, firmly. "Don't make a promise like that until we even know if it's possible to send me back. I don't know much about the technical bits of crossing the void between realities, but I do know that it's insanely difficult even when you know where you're going. I've got no idea where my plane is relative to here."

Kassalya slithered up to the two of them. "It's a nice offer. But David is right. Best hold off on making that promise until we figure out where he's from."

She just facepalms. "when you came to your deal, you felt a jolt right? a surge of new power?" starting to laugh a bit, she lowers her hand "of course there would be an unbonded ethereal just hanging out on school grounds." she might be making a joke out of this, but several of the other students are just gaping, a few whining about him being lucky.

until that gets a few of them snickering one pointing out that 'of course the wolf gets the lazy partner.'

"now then," Bekkail says, speaking up to be heard over the students, and indirectly silencing most of the conversations going on. "Our next stop will be the dorms. If you'll all follow me?"

leading the way out, she almost immediately has them going up to the second floor of the main tower before following iy round the circle a ways until leading out another connecting path to a secondary tower. This time the connecting path is open air, and affords a view of not only the main tower and library tower, which are close in height, though the library isn't anywhere as wide. as well as all four of the secondary towers which are slightly shorter still, and have a tiny circumference by comparison, as well as the grounds they encircle. the land below carved up into various training fields and other spaces, on one of which you can see tarsos giving his group a demonstration of some kind of aerial sport, being held aloft by jets of flame he's forming.

the tower itself is, in a word, cozy. and many would be quick to notice that there are only enough accommodations for six groups of ten, not groups of thirty five...

Thomas simply shrugged at the students remark, "A good deal's a good deal. No sense in passing one up when it's useful for both parties." He quieted down when Bekkail started talking again. He followed the group to the dorms, mentally noting down the layout of the areas they had passed through. "Doesn't seem like it'll fit everyone," he casually remarks to Kero.

"Well, I wish all of you guys good luck." Fen'rus smiled and nodded at the rest of the mages at the table. "Hopefully you guys manage to find one that's less umm... troublesome than mine." He chuckled, taking another bite of fruit into his maw. The wolf let the conversation move on to some other topic as he enjoyed his meal, looking around at all the fellow students around him. After he had gone through half of his plate he turned back to the professor. "So, what kind of etherial do you have sir? I didn't really get a good look at it the last time I saw you two in the square."

"I mean, kind of? Well actually I don't really know... Sometimes when Fen eats food I kinda clump up all around him to see if I can feel what its like. If its really good he'll try to describe it the taste to me, but I guess that's kinda hard to do if you've never tasted anything before. Sometimes I feel like I can almost understand what he means, like its on the tip of my tongue." She shrugs, "It's not really something I have to do so I shouldn't worry about it, but there are some people that just make the thought of tasting some good food seem like an awesome experience."

Vi floated up and above some of the patrons, watching with her cloudy paws on her cheeks. "Maybe that's one of the things we can learn how to do at the academy."

Of course, Hope stopped her conversation with David short. Giving him a smile, she simply says "We'll talk later."

Of course following Bekkail to the dorms she too, noticed the lack of room. However, her mind was elsewhere. "Wonder what Dusk is doing? He's been gone awhile..." A clear look of worry was on the Fenrai's face but she tried well to hide that, as she tried to find a spot.

She looked towards Bekkail, asking. "First come first serve, or are beds assigned?"

David nodded to Hope and followed the crowd to keep up with Bekkail. When they got to the dorms, he had to admit he felt a little confused. The accommodations seemed good, but he couldn't help but realize that the tower only seemed to have a third of what it would need to support a group the size of what was gathered in the old throne room.

"Um..." David muttered, very slightly raising a hand. "Are... um... is there going to be enough space for everyone?" he asked Bekkail, assuming she could hear his voice.

efficient non-magical means of processing cotton hasn't been invented yet, it has to be done manually, so it's use is more sparse than people of our age would be used to. the fabrics present being largely varieties of wools from different minor species, and a few pieces of what look like the silks the fenrae make...

There's an open door to the street to your left, in plain view of the desk the owner is sitting at. or there's a window open on the other side of the tables.

Sylas was intrigued, if a bit worried at the idea of the entrance exam. She was glad she didn't need to earn a partner, that was a nice step to skip, but she felt uncertain over showing her potential. "At least this place looks nice." She said, mostly to Sinbel, who was looking around, and listening.

Dusk looks around noticing the open window, and noted that indeed there was someone sitting right there at the desk. Dusk took a minute or so to weigh his options before he looked to Vi.

"I think we can book it through the window. You with me?"

"Um..." David hesitated. "Will we still have to... earn a partner? If we already can cast magic without one?" he asked. He wasn't quite sure his social skills were up for earning any sort of partner, let alone a magical partner from another world.

"Yup! Right behind you! Ready when you are." Vi replied, already starting to dispelling into a thin haze of glints and shimmers.

when you turn to the teacher though, he just grins. "Ask him yourself, or did you not notice the stormcloud settling on your shoulder?" he answers, gesturing at the smiling ball of lightning you'd only now be feeling the, admittedly extremely light, weight of.
"Hmm?" Fen'rus turned his head, his eyes widening for a moment at the sight of the ball of lightning rest on his shoulder. "Umm, wow... And I assume you must be the professor's etherial? Heh, Vi's gonna be so jealous of me when she gets back. So what's your name?"

Dusk uses this time to run as fast as he could, before the ethereal made it out of the open window. "Hope, here I come!" He cried as he lept out the open window. Not regarding at all what story he had jumped from...

"The entrance exam is rather simple." Bekkail explained. "It is merely to see if you have the ability to utilize magic. A simple demonstration of what you are capable of in a controlled environment will suffice. You are not expected to know high level magic at this point in time."
CyberDragon wrote:"Um..." David hesitated. "Will we still have to... earn a partner? If we already can cast magic without one?" he asked. He wasn't quite sure his social skills were up for earning any sort of partner, let alone a magical partner from another world.
Bekkail turned her head to David, but answered to the entire group of students. "If you already have a partner, you will not need to earn one. If you do not have a partner, but have innate abilities, you may try to earn a partner. That said, you can still pass the entrance exam without a partner as long as you are able to control your magic."

David was looking somewhat comforted until the idea of controlling his magic came up. His memory of his complete loss of control was still fresh in his mind. He crossed his arms across his chest, nervously hugging himself. Kass gently put a hand on his shoulder.

"Tonight before you turn in, you will be assigned a bed. Are there any further questions?" the serpent teacher asked.

"As alchemy is reliant mainly on the magical properties of the reagents and not the alchemist, you will be expected to utilize magic from your own personal mana stores." she responded. "Unless taking a potion is required for you to restore your magic stores, you will not be using potions or alchemical concoctions in the entrance exam."

The serpent lifted herself up slightly, holding her arms behind her back in a dignified manner. "Right then. If there are no more questions, I believe the classrooms are next. Shall we move on?"

David looked away from her eyes to the floor. He was trying to ignore the stares of that group of students from before, but it was getting difficult. He shrugged in response to the idea of moving on and simply waited for the teacher's next instructions.

"Ah, no more questions from me," Thomas said, somewhat eager to get on with this tour so that he could brew his next supply of potions, assuming that they could, in fact, be brewed here at all.

Sylas shook her head towards the question about questions, "None from me." She was a tad eager to see where exactly they'd be spending the majority of their time learning, and put the anxiety of the exam behind her for the moment.

"Very well then." Naquil Verek looked around at the students, none of whom seemed to be asking questions. Then again, none of them seemed to be paying attention either, as most of them were checking out the selection of fruits and meats on the table. The wolf sighed. "I would like to get this tour done with as much as the rest of you. I believe the classrooms are next on our list of places to visit. Everyone, please follow me."

The wolf started on his way out of the dining hall towards the stairs without giving too much effort to seeing if the rest of the students were following him. Rhyn gave a quick wave to Fen'rus, then followed his partner.

The school should be rather easy to find from Vi's position. With most buildings and houses in the town being only two or three stories tall and made of wood, the school's six stonework towers stretched above the city skyline upon a hill in the distance.

Best follow along quickly if you're feeling hungry!" The serpent shifted and slithered back towards the entrance to the Dormitory tower.

David felt his stomach rumble, and realized he actually hadn't had anything to eat pretty much all day. He wasn't feeling good for most of it because of his overcharge, but now that he wasn't in such discomfort he could focus on smaller things like hunger. He also wanted to get out of sight of some of the students in the group, particularly the ones that were whispering about him earlier.

Kassalya, on the other hand, decided to strike up a conversation while they moved to the next locale. She decided on two of the more familiar faces in the group, Thomas and Sylas. "Hey. Name's Kassalya, but most people just shorten that to Kass. Where are you two from?" she asked as she followed.

Fantastic! Seeing the tower in the distance Vi zipped her way towards it, making her way back to the school in (hopefully) no time at all.

”Thomas Watson. I’m from London,” Thomas begins, stopping when he realizes that Kassalya probably doesn’t know where that is. ”Ah, well, I’m from another dimension on a planet called Earth. Bunch of countries and the like, London’s part of one called Great Britain. Your friend, David, might know where it is as well. Regardless, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” He says with a genuine, if excessively toothy, smile.

Snow has just arrived, been aimlessly wandering around the building checking out the various facilities. Being the new student does make him slightly antsy, but the fact he has no partner and thus can only be seen and interacted with by other etherials does put him at ease as it lessens the chance of a large groups and gatherings

Sylas twitched a little in surprise, having not expected a friendly chat that late into the tour, but was glad to answer. "Sylas Khtor at your service." She said, as was her typical greeting, but seemed to hesitate on the question of where she was from. "I'm, ah, I'm not really from anywhere. Ever traveling trader life, you know. What of you?"

Sinbel, meanwhile, slithered next to his charge, eying Kass with mild interest. He would have been looking at David, but found the attention being thrown his way obnoxious.

Verek marched up the stairs, his robes billowing slightly behind him as he went. At each level of the staircase, which seemed to spiral up the center of the tower, doors branched off in each direction. North, South, East, and West. "Now... Each of these doors leads to a hall where the different classrooms are. The floors are organized by Element, and the wings are organized by the type of magic being taught. Channeling, Shaping, Calling, and Advanced..." He explained.

Snow would find he was rather late. The orientation was over, and the late sign-up desk had already been packed up and closed down. He might have to find a teacher.

There did seem to be a group on it's way through one of the courtyards to the central tower led by a Kigrei Rou, one of the snake-people. Perhaps that would be a good place to look first...

Kass stopped in place, nearly causing another student to trip over her tail. She looked at Thomas a moment, blinking a couple of times. Suddenly, she reached out with her prehensile tail and wrapped it around David's waist. David didn't have time to realize what was happening before he felt himself be lifted up and pulled over to Kass and the others. "Wha-?!"

"Sorry, David." Kass said, setting him back down between her and Thomas. David looked up at the wolf-man shyly. "David, this is Thomas. I think you two should talk. Thomas is from Earth!"

"Lon-Don." Kass said excitedly. "Do you know it?"

David nodded. "Know it. Never actually been to Earth. I'm a third generation Proximite."

"It's about four light-years away, so no. Not really."

Snow takes a deep breath to calm his nerves, this Kigrei Rou seems rather important, and not just because they’re normally rare. Snow taps him on the shoulder, or rather, attempts to, but ends up vaguely waving his hand through it

Thomas took a half-step back as Kassalya set David between them, not just because of David's discomfort, but also because of his own slight discomfort. "Well, it's nice to meet you David," he says, carefully extended a handpaw towards him. "I know I don't look it right now, but I am also a human. An...affliction...has taken that shape from me. Sylas was initially quite excited by the mention of the explorer's guild. "The explorers guild?! How exciting!" But was quickly cut off as Keith and David's conversation absolutely confused her. "A-and I thought I traveled far. Hah..."

Sinbel leaned next to his charge and chuckled, "You don't comprehend all of what they're saying, do you?" The ethereal said, closely watching the conversation before him.

Sylas simply glared at her seemingly glass made companion and shushed him.
