Joys: Slept real well last night and woke up at a good time today. Excited to get to work cleaning up around the house.

Yup. It's apartment style so we all get our own rooms. Thank goodness, since most of the other halls are two per room/dorm. I have no idea why the campus thinks that's safe considering the circumstances :?

Ummm ..... yeah ..... under current conditions, that policy strikes me as less than responsible. Be safe, chum.

Good, to hear you're safe and have some decent guys as roommates, Nathan, but yeah college administrators can make some really idiotic decisions. At my alma mater they tested the heat in late August in North Carolina, so just be prepared this might not be the last idiotic decision that the college makes.

From what my colleagues tell me, North Carolina is working very hard to make me very glad I retired when I did.

Sorrow: We lost power for two days due to damage from Isaias so now I am trying to play catch up on everything and that includes reading all the posts here and I am worried some might not be as coherent as I need them to be.

Well, I don’t know about the state’s decisions. I went to a private college, and their administrators were bad enough.

Many sorrows and joys: I'm all moved in and on my own in my new campus. Definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done. I've been incredibly lucky to get this far in my education without leaving home but I always knew that wouldn't last forever. Today had many emotional highs and lows. I feel better about my new situation now than I did earlier, but this is only the beginning of a whole new lifestyle. All I can do is the best I can. I'm grateful you all are still here, love y'all <3

Very good luck, Nathan. The whole college transition thing is remarkably challenging and not a little foreboding. Add to all the predictable anxieties and the loneliness, there are all the uncertainties arising from the politics, the pandemic, and the sense that the whole thing may just disintegrate. Stay alert and focused, you'll get it done. ;)

You can do school work in bed but sleeping on a desk is torture (unless there's a lecture in front of you ;) ).
