It's also because I have no recommendations. I like funk, but don't actually listen to it as much as I'd like. Partially because I have none.

If its reputation is reliable you're going to want to turn off Soft Parade midway through the first track. Just warning you.

Sometimes I just don't understand how Soft Parade got such a bad reputation as too glamorous. It was in no way a sell out.

The first track, Tell All the People That You See is one of the best on the album next to Touch Me. What is this "reputation" that you speak of? Because if it's that the album is all glitz and glamor, then I beg you to actually LISTEN to it and you'll see that that was just the general over reaction at the time of the Doors trying something new. People just freaked out and called them sell outs.

Also, contrary to popular opinion, Morrison Hotel is actually my least favorite. They made it as bland and as simple as possible (excluding any form of orchestra or back up instruments) to make up for Soft Parade's... well, jazzedup-ness. Personally, I feel that the only really good tracks on Morrison hotel are Waiting for the Sun and Land Ho. The others just seem to be devoid of energy to me. Yet another example of how a band actually suffered from trying to be what it's obsessive fans want it to be.

That too :D

But really, my point is just that people over reacted way too much to soft parade. Then they were denouncing touch me as the worst doors song to date, when later it would become known as one of their best (well, among their best anyway)

Also, which in your opinion was their best album?

Personally I think that their debut, The Doors (Containing Light my Fire, The End, The Crystal Ship, Break on through, and Twentieth century fox) is simply not beatable.

After that I would grade them as:

Strange days-Waiting for the sun tied for second
LA Woman for third
The Soft Parade for fourth
and Morrison Hotel for fifth

Again, just an opinion, but it's just so much fun to rate things from best to worst (in this case best to not quite as best, as they all still fall into the category of fantastic)

I haven't actually listened to any Doors album in full, sorry. I usually sample an album on iTunes or Amazon to decide whether I should listen to the full thing and no Doors album yet has passed that test.

Yeah, me too, but it is a great song alright.

Also, I've officially started listening to more Led Zeppelin (Got their whole discography). They're more awesome than I thought they'd be.

I like cartoon villains songs

I know that sound really kiddy for anyone…

"Pete's king of france"

"If the I Ruled the World" by Dr. Carver

Team Rocket "double trouble"

Giovanni's "it will all be mine!"

"in the dark of the night" from Anastasia

"No More Mr. Nice Guy" from The Swan Princess

"Don't fall in love" from Beauty and the Beast 2

if you make fun of me... I'll cry... and then destroy you!

What's your opinion on that one hip-hop song that cops its chorus from Hide and Seek? Personally I think it's atrocious. :P

Re: Music.

interesting choice of genre to describe the song in question

As much as I could go off on a tirade on how horrible Jason Derulo is and how he ruined a perfectly good song, it's honestly one of the least offensive uses of samples I've seen. It's actually pretty on-spot to the original; compare to this atrocity in which not only do they not sample the song but use an inaccurate cover of the song like one would use a sample (which is only made worse for it being intentional and not just pure stupidity, though I'm sure that's a factor). Plus, the original song was bad in the first place. Like I need to say any more on that. The fact Derulo didn't alter Hide and Seek much beyond speeding it up from the original is good too, but the best part of it I find is that he didn't overuse it. This song is a real pet peeve for me, and as much as Daft Punk gave the go-ahead, it uses the same lines on perpetual repeat through the whole song which is only one step above the mindset of modern popular DJs. At least Jason Derulo puts something else in there with it – namely, some actual song.

I still don't like Jason Derulo, I just can't get mad at him for sampling Hide and Seek like I can get mad at other popular artists for crappy samples of good (or in the case of Right Round, bad) songs.
