Emo, real emo, makes me happy. Even non-emo bands that have emo-style lyrics (like Jimmy Eat World post Clarity) make me happy.

What gets labelled as "emo" now adays is just dumb in the lyrical department.

Speaking of Jimmy Eat World, apparently they recently put out a new album, and I had no idea!

They're quite Indie. Here's one of their songs. Not even over 1K views.

I never was exactly sure what emo music was. I'm fully aware of what it isn't, but that's about it.

Early Emo like Rights of Spring was basically more melodic 80's punk with emotional confessional lyrics. It's changed since then, but still sounds like punk with confessional lyrics. It's just that punk has changed too.

It really depends on how pure you want your genres to be. Post-clarity Jimmy Eat World for example could still be considered Emo if you think Emo is mostly about the lyrical content, since Jimmy Eat World's lyrical style hasn't changed since their emo days.

Somebody actually asked, we don't need someone to say "I don't care" every single time the topic of genres comes up

Duh, but it's rather irrelevant when someone actually broaches the topic of genre willingly and is interested in knowing about a genre definition.

Genre, to me, is not important. If I like the song, I like the song, period.
I did not know that about the emo genre, though. That was pretty interesting.

Sunburst found this the other day and showed it to me, and I thought it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. It's one thing to mix genres, but another thing entirely to mix super-broad genres and still sound awesome.

Not really proof, just coincidental.

The fact that you also provided no links may have something to do with it, internet people are lazy.
