That's a bit sad, Sleet. From what I've heard your band was quite good.Sleet wrote:So a couple days ago my band leader dissolved the band. And I don't know why. :/
Ah well.
Perhaps you could start your own band now?

That's a good idea. Bringing one of the former band members on board if they're available might give you an good start too.
I can play the piano. Not very good at it though.
I also sing. Used to be in the school choir, and won some awards competing nationally. But now I've grown inwards and only sing in the shower

Re: any musicians?
Well, some things have changed for me since my post here during the summer. The band I was in had a nasty break-up in August. In early/mid-September, I started a new band with my old guitarist under the name "The Lost Regiment" (I would have included my old drummer, but sadly, a little over a week after the original break-up, he lost his life in a drunk driving accident). Instead of being a mixed genre band, we converted to only melodic death metal. I still perform as lead vocalist, but now I also perform as songwriter.
I still play trumpet, but I now run a small singing class for those interested in the metal genre. I currently have 7 students and they have shown true potential in music.
In regards to new instruments, I learned how to play baritone and I have made progress in learning guitar.
Sleet, I am sorry about your band and wish the best for you.

Probably not. I'm not good at running a band.
I played bass, and sometimes keyboards.

Re: any musicians?
It started to feel like a chore for me too. I would only practice once a week (right before the lesson) and didn't feel as happy playing it as I used to. I still love being able to play it, but I didn't feel as enthusiastic about it.Deske wrote:I took piano lessons for a few years, maybe 3 to 5...I don't really remember. I really really liked it, but then something happened and it just started becoming a chore, I got frustrated really easily with it. It wasn't fun anymore. I quit maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I still don't know what to feel about that decision.dtlux1 wrote:I was in a piano class for 3 years, haven't been since summer started though. I still know how to play it.
I was also in a voice class for 2 years, so I can sing too.
Voice is something I loved, and still love. I wish I was still in it, but I stopped that at the same time as piano, because the lessons were in the same place.

I think that if you have to practice to do something or work out a schedule to do it rather than just find time to do it, the enjoyment of it tends to go down.

What specifically constitutes Fripping? Just the atonal stuff?

I've been on the piano for years and although at first I didn't like it, now it's pretty much a huge part of my life. I do have to do some live performances from time to time >.>
And also a saxophone.

You have to admit that fripping seems pretty cool.
Re: any musicians?
I'm currently learning how to play the drums (taking it as a elective in school) and learning pretty quickly. It's frustrating to learn variables at first but me channeling that frustration has lead to progress in actually playing them. I can play a couple of songs by the Misfits pretty well. Still extremely new to playing them but keeping the beat is no problem.
I'm thinking of taking piano next term, parallel to drums. I was learning to play the Piano via Youtube a while ago, but I became bored of it and stopped.

Nooo don't give up! Piano is an awesome instrument to play! Right now, because you're only beginning to learn it, it's very boring. But so is every instrument when you're learning the basics!Kitela wrote:I'm currently learning how to play the drums (taking it as a elective in school) and learning pretty quickly. Trust me, piano is one of the most intense instruments out there man.

I made the mistake of giving up piano. But, it got boring. I did get to the point where I could play The Entertainer though.
Re: any musicians?
I hear ya. It was a few years ago when I was trying to learn (and also a few years before that). I gave up awhile ago.ds-al-coda wrote:Nooo don't give up! Piano is an awesome instrument to play! Thing is, I wasn't nearly as interested in playing instruments then, as I am today. Now, I have some confidence I can play something and I feel I can learn the piano in a more formal environment at school rather than YouTube on a cell phone and a electric keyboard.
But speaking of electronic instruments, I'm looking to buy an electronic drum kit soon. I'll have a blast on that. Maybe after I become familiar with playing Piano, I'll get an electronic KB as well. All I have is a practice pad at the moment.
Never too later to give it another try.Deske wrote:I made the mistake of giving up piano. But, it got boring. I did get to the point where I could play The Entertainer though.

Re: any musicians?
so for a few reasons, I've decided to buy and learn to play a mandolin.
mainly cause banjoes are expensive and mandolin is the next best thing (I found a fairly cheap one online). and ukeleles and guitars are too common

Re: any musicians?
If I'm not mistaken, the iPhone ringtone/alarm titled "strum" is played on a mandolin. I figured it out on guitar and it was rather difficult BUT on the mandolin it should be super easy and then you could trick people into thinking their phone is ringing!
Surprised you didn't go for the theremin, though, like nobody plays those anymore these days... *bricked*

Ooweeoo.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

I can already kinda do that. I've got a synthesizer that can emulate the sound pretty well with the right settings!

Yup. That would be the instrument that I.R. Baboon used to destroy the town that I.M. Weasel takes place in.

Well, I can't say I play anything as unique as the theremin, but I've been playing guitar for 8 years and singing for as long as I can remember. I also play a bit of piano and clarinet

Piano, drums, bass, guitar, violin, tuba, misc. percussion, DAW programmed music, organ (shakily), synthetic, MIDI Launchpad (it counts), kazoo , and a little bit of harmonica (not that I'll ever use it). Best at drums, bass, MIDI Launchpad, synth, and DAW.
