That's great, RatHead, very nice experience. :D Maybe the participation hasn't been large, but the event looked pretty well organized. ;) There was even a pool, absolutely to use without the fursuit. :P

Yeah it was! I had a TON of fun, have new contacts and friends, life expiriences, AND ARTS!
and actually it was pretty good, over 300 participants, 93 fursuiters!
and yeah, the pool was fun, even if i didn't jump in.

I don't know if there'll be a next year though, as apparently the organizer hasn't isn't takin good care of himself and is in the hospital after a heart attack...

I guess because a very common cause of heart attacks is a clogged artery.

To reiterate and steer this back on topic:
I do not consider myself a furry.

How can a sea urchin be a furry if it doesn't have any fur on it? xD

Nah, but it's generally agreed upon that "furry" refers to all anthropomorphic animals. :3

Apparently being a furry is becoming dangerous! Some people were sent to hospital because someone intentionally released chlorine gas at a convention.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/loca ... story.html

This is actually kind of scary.

Edit: Now they are saying that it was bottle full of something that only smelled like chlorine but it made some people sick and they took them to the hospital as a precaution.

gosh , I really hope that those people are OK , but , though I know this will sound really pessimistic, from what I've seen , it's not being a furry that would make you a victim of these kinds of action , it's being different . Lots of people tend to attack anyone that's different from them , before now it's verbally , ridicule , and now it's this .
Still , very scary though

Scary stuff. My friend sent me a link of that last night. It made us worried about going to one of these this summer, but looking at past conventions, these things don't really happen as security is pretty tight.
Hopefully they find the people responsible.

I'm getting conflicting info on this. At first there was word of a powdered chloric compound, the same kind you clean pools with. Then there was talk about pure chlorine.

Anyway, both easily cross the line into domestic terrorism. After all, chlorine-based weapons were used to gas our great-grandparents around here in the trenches.

Whatever the case may be, so far everything points to a lone wolf carrying out the attack as it all looks very amateur hour.

Pure chlorine or no, you're right about domestic terrorism. This is almost certainly a targeted attack and a hate crime.

There is no pool located in said hotel, by the way.

There were over 50 emergency vehicles, we got evac'd to four separate sites outside the hotel, 19 people were hospitalized and one of those was in a bad condition (but has since been released) due to previous exposure in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Whoever did this is going to get a nice long trip to jail, and probably have to pay some massive restitution. We had the DHS, FBI, Hazmat FBI, Hazmat DHS, O'Hare police, TSA (as there WERE pilots and operating crew in this hotel and it is close to ORD) and a wide variety of other people take an interest in this, within hours of it happening at 1AM on a sleepy sunday morning.

I'd wager this story's not going away.

From what I've read in this thread, you don't need a fursona to consider yourself a furry. Personally, I've never been sure about whether or not I'm a furry, but I still like being a part of the fandom.
However, if you want a fursona, just think of your persona and your favorite animal. Or a completely different persona personified to any animal that's different from your own, as it's own independent character. It's fun!

Edit: I changed my vote to yes, so it's an even 3/4 now.

I'm definitely a furry, but under no circumstances would I ever consider myself to be a furry.

Sorry, Jeff. I tried to defuse it with a joke that was not worth making. Its just that talking about it helped us wrap our heads around it. I mean, who could hate a fandom so bad that they would attack it in such a way? A long time ago, I found a video on youtube of a guy in dark sunglasses and bandana tied around his face going on about how much furries disgusted him and how he was going to rid the world of them. And I wonder what could make someone hate furries that much. What did we ever do to him?
