Life's Truths

Post by Cm4F »

I couldn't find something like this, although if it is similar to another thread, PLEASE PM me and tell me, don't post in it; that way I can delete it easier. I cannot stress this enough!

In this thread, say the things that always tend to happen under certain circumstanes.

For example, say something like, "Parents saying it'll take five minutes, but it turns into an hour," or, "After you get your car washed, it starts to rain."

What are some that you can think of?

Every time I promise to do something for somebody, something goes wrong and it doesn't happen.
e.g. I promised to help a French guy learn English because he really needed it for university,
that week my mother fell and needed to go to the hospital, and I had to stay home with my brothers
and sisters.

Well, the speed of acceleration due to gravity is about 9.8 m/s^2, the average person lives to be 67.2 years old, sodium will burst into flame and probably explode if you dunk it in water ... Oh. Wait. Not that kind of truth.

Well, I just read about something called the Peter Principle. It basically states that within any organization, everybody will eventually be promoted until they are in a position where they are completely incompetent.

... It seems to be sadly true. -_-

If it sounds like a bad idea it's probably gonna be an awesome time.

No matter how much in advance I have my assignments, I will always end up doing most of it at the last minute.

Corollary: If something sounds like a bad idea, yet doesn't have the possibility for fun (ex, getting stabbed, as opposed to jumping off a 40 ft rock into a lake), then it's probably just a bad idea. =P

The day one neglects to bring something along will be the one day that it will actually be needed.

In any given marching band, there will be at least one instrumentalist who can never be in step.

If you inform someone that you are bored, there is a good chance you'll be given something boring to do.

when you move out you realize that there are certain words only your family uses and you will have no idea if they're real words or just something your family made up.

All of these are very true for me. XD Well, not specifically the TV one, but the price depreciation right after I buy almost anything. :P

1boredcanadian wrote:When you say "At least it can't get any worse" 90% of the time it does get much worse!
Very true. The only thing you can do is remain optimistic so you're not in a negative mindset that automatically destroys any type of joy, no matter how small.
The Dalai Lama wrote:"If we have a positive mental attitude, then even when surrounded by hostility, we shall not lack inner peace. On the other hand, if our mental attitude is more negative, influenced by fear, suspicion, helplessness, or self-loathing, then even when surrounded by our best friends, in a nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings, we shall not be happy."
I love this quote, and it's under the quotations section of my Facebook.

That's true, but since I live on an old, dusty, dirt/mud road, nothing short of a terrential downpour (or soap and a brush) would clean my car from the orange dirt. :P

I really can't think of anything to add as a Life Truth, but I just wanted to give my input. Continue!

if you tie a piece of buttered bread to a cat's back with the buttered side facing up, the cat will defy gravity

When someone mentions a particular food, you will find yourself getting hungry for it.

On a related note, I am hungry for McDonald's now...

Sometimes I'll basically kill my self trying to make something really good (like a gift for instance) and the receiver's reaction leaves a lot to be desired...
