I can't remember the name, but it was a collection of Captain America comics where Cap ends up fighting aliens who can change shape to stop an invasion. Its awesome because at the end of the comic Cap says he is leaving The Avengers because he is a symbol of the American People, not the American dollar.

Let me see... besides Housepets! and all the other great comics already mentioned, here are two more (both webcomics):

The Whiteboard-- Paintball + Mad science + Mountain Dew. Even if (like me) you could care less about paintball, it still deserves your attention. The strips over the past year have been a little more crass and hit-or-miss, but there's several years of material in the archive. Start from strip one if you want things to make sense. Furry.

Schlock Mercenary-- A long-running webcomic about the travels and travails of a group of mercenaries in the 29th (?) century. Coherent story, plausible science, excellent humor; it's been going for more than a decade, so there's plenty of material to binge on. Art is MS Paint-bad at first, but improves fairly quickly. Non-furry, but awesome and a half.

Favorite novel: ballad of a shinigami (No, it's not related to bleach >:/ )

My new favorite graphic novel is the trade paperback of Maximum Carnage. For those that don't know, it's the epic tale of Spider-Man having to save New York City from a group of his most violent and bloodthirsty enemies, led by the nihilistic symbiote Carnage. It's a story about classic Silver Age values and morality facing off against the idea of the 90s anti-hero, with Spider-Man being forced to wonder if he'll have to sink to the levels of violence and savagery as his enemies to beat them.

Shinigami are a Japanese thing, not a Bleach thing, so there's no reason it would be related.

I loooooooove that storyline.
IMO one of the best spiderman stories ever.

Sleet meant that it is part of Japanese folklore, it wasn't an invention of Bleach. Just like it wasn't an invention of Deathnote. You don't need to let people know that it had nothing to do with Bleach, because that shouldn't be an assumption people would make.

now, back on topic. I think my favorite novel is the Harry Potter series.
I haven't read many novels.

I just bought the second volume of Warren Ellis's Transmetropolitan
fair warning, lot's of language violence and crude humor. But it's also a fantastic social satire and it's incredibly witty.

East of Eden is probably my favorite novel, though american psycho is close.

This may be a silly question, but has anyone else read Scott McCloud's Comics series? They're technically graphic novels, but they're about the theory, history, and technique behind comics. I like 'em, but I'm trying to get into the market as we speak. There are three: Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics.

I know my jump into the market is going slow though because I don't have to look at every post to know that no one has mentioned Sofa Wars yet.

stick to your update schedule a bit better and it might get here.

High Moon was originally published online and then in print. A few of my favorite titles from Radio Comix have been serialized online like Havoc, Inc. and The Bureau of Mana Investigations.

Also a good number of comics that are based on films and literature. I just picked up a graphic novel version of "House on the Borderland".

As you can tell I am really into horror comics. Anyone know any good ones they could suggest to me?

If you really like horror comics then you NEED to read mangas from Junji Ito. One of his well-known horror manga is Uzumaki and Gyo, which is an OVA of it is coming soon. He also makes other short stories.

Other than that, I can PM you more horror mangas, if you're interested. *Is a fan of horror as well* o wo

I saw the film version of Uzumaki and was unimpressed. For me about 90% of J-Horror is un-scary and convoluted. I did read "High School of the Dead" and was very impressed by it! Starts out as a typical high school love story, then 5 page in... BANG! George A. Romero style zombie apocalypse! The characters are deep and interesting, which is important in any survival horror story. I think the endless fan service does distract from how good it is.

I forgot to mention a few foreign titles that I read as well. From Italy there is Dylan Dog and Dampyr.

And numerous one off graphic novels.

The movie for Uzumaki was terrible, in my opinion. It doesn't even follow the manga correctly. I'd say read the manga and don't judge it by the film version. If it still doesn't impress you, at least you see both versions and came to a conclusion.

I haven't read it in forever though, I should pick up a copy somewhere.

I like that comic! My friend shows it to me a lot, but I don't actively read it.

I found this on Tumblr and the original poster did not know where it came from. I don't know the title, the artist or the writer, but it looks AWESOME!

Another Lovecraft comic worth checking out is the Graphic Library HP Lovecraft. It has some good visual adaptations.

Has anyone ever read the fan-comic for Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers subtitled "Of Mice and Mayhem"?

I read this years ago and thought it was pretty good, and I hadn't thought about the TV show in ages.

I found a cool comic called "Bearmageddon". It is a horror/comedy about a group of 20-somethings who are trying to survive as an army of mutant grizzly bears wage all out war on the human race. It has a lot to say about life, age and man's impact on the environment.

If you like things in the style of "Shaun of the Dead" or "Black Sheep" you might like this.

So about a year ago I was at the library, and they had this wall. you could put on an index card what you geeked. like, "I geek art" or "I geek football." it was pretty cool.
anyway I found this

I just picked up a graphic novel called "The Wolves of Odin". Its about the Norse god Odin becoming anger by the spread of Christianity in Scandinavia so he unleashes a plague of werewolves upon those who turned their back on him.

That's right. Vikings vs Werewolves!

Just picked up the fifth volume of Transmetropolitan, Awesome.

It is confirmed. IDW comics are going to publish a Doctor Who meets Star Trek comics. That's right, the 11th Doctor meets Captain Picard. The internet has been set ablaze. I am personally looking forward to it.
