Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting!

Hey guys, I've just recently joined the Aikido club at my college.

So I want to know how many others here know any martial arts? And if so, which ones?

I took Tae Kwon Do when I was 6-7, but I forgot most of it.

I was in tae kwon do as well, for seven years, and got a red belt. I still remember Basic Exercise #1 from start to finish.

I'm a second degree black belt in taekwondo, and I've been a guest member of my college's tangsudo club for the past 2+ years.

Have always been interested, but never really had the funding. ;3 I know some police take-down moves from my days as an explorer scout at the sheriff's office, but that's about it. There's been a massive proliferation of dojos recently, maybe I should look into a few and see what's up.

As with most everyone else it seems, I too have taken Tae Kwon Do, got up to a blue belt with a red stripe. That was years ago though, so I probably don't remember much.

Only if you count Tai Chi, which I just started. I am learning one of the forms geared more toward health, so I don't really count it as a martial art.

I tried to self-learn boxing, although I pretty much quit before I even got anywhere. It's not like I could get anywhere anyway, I don't even have anyone to spar with.

But I did train for badminton, so I am probably not too bad with something light, thin, and long.

And what's up with everyone? I tried to learn a Western martial art while everyone else learned Asian martial arts? That's pretty funny...

I practiced Wu-shu for a month during a study tour, but I basically forgot about everything and is just back to twirling a stick. XDD

The reason I did it was because my mother wanted me to, no idea why.

I started because my younger cousin did and I thought it sounded neat. He went to a lame ATA school and quit, but I didn't, so I still practice it.

When I was six, I tried Taekwondo. I was told that my punches were awesome. I was satisfied with that, so I quit. Two years ago, I started again, and now I'm there to stay.

Well I don´t do any martial arts, but I know how to cause pain and how to defend myself at the same time. Learned that on the street >_>

Also I seem to be good with weapons at all, though I still have to try most of them yet.

I have trained in Kenpo Karate.
A style with a mix of techniques and an emphasis on usefulness and application.
Unfortunately, I could not continue the discipline after I moved.

I took Kihido Karate for about 3 or 4 years, got up to a purple belt. Only reason I didn't make red was because I had trouble with the physical requirement of running 3 miles in under 30 minutes. Stuff happened, and eventually I just never had time for it anymore.

*sighs* I think once my writing career gets off the ground I'll try to get back into it though. Any suggestions on good arts? Tae Kwon Do seems popular...

It really depends on what aspects of martial arts you enjoy. As for what's "good," it really depends on the school.

You should look up a few different forms and see what interests you. I want to study some of the softer forms like bagua and aikido, but I'm not flexible, so I decided to study tai chi first. Once I limber up I think I'll go for those. It really depends on what appeals to you.

If I were to pick a martial art, I would pick something that can actually be used to defend myself or the others. Preferably against multiple opponents and doesn't do lethal damage.

Haha, I sure ask a lot for someone who doesn't have any money, time, or opportunity to learn martial arts. Now I am just wondering if I can self-learn fencing or something, not that I will ever use it or have anyone (no equipment and protective gears) to spar with. But I don't want to be too vulnerable, just in case something happens.

Tis farily simple to learn. The basics, with a little tweaking of course, can beused when fighting with any blade. Thus I am excelent with a knife....

And I plan to replace "blade" with an umbrella or a long stick, therefor doing nonlethal damage but still be able to parry attacks.

Friggin' swordcane you guys.

[Also illegal in the US and probably everywhere else.]

Also, congrats, Tha Housedog! Today I just got punched in the jaw and now my right upper canine hurts. The guy I was sparring was not pleased with how he kept leaving his head open and went berserk a little bit. :P

This cane has no sword, tis only wood with a solid silver handle and tip..... well mostly

Additionally, a swordcane is not illegal in Ga with a concealed weapons license....
