The Disney film "The Emperor's New Groove" was originally titled "Kingdom of the Sun" and it was going to be a dramatic musical based on the Mark Twain story "The Prince and the Pauper".

If you don't want Skyrim ruined for you don't read this...
"Taking an arrow to the knee" was old Nordic slang for getting married. None of the soldiers actually took an arrow to the knee; they got married. This also explains why you go down on one knee when you propose.

UVB-76 is a radio station located somewhere in Russia. It broadcasts on the frequency 4625 kHz. It broadcasts a short, monotonous buzz tone of approximately 25 tones per minute, for 24 hours per day, occasionally with buzz stops and a robotic-like male voice lists names and numbers in Russian. The signal has only been interrupted a few times since it began broadcasting around 1982.
The true purpose of UVB-76 is unknown. It has been suggested that it is contact with everything from spies to beings from other dimensions.
A recorded UVB-76 transmission.
It the source of interest to the radio spotting community world wide.

Dreamworks' "Turbo" might be their first animated film since "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" and their first computer animated film to bomb at the box office.

No what means is that most of Dreamworks' computer animated films like the Shrek series, Megamind, How to Train Your Dragon, Rise of the Guardians, and even Shark Tale managed to outgrossed more than what their budget costed. Turbo isn't even close, but I could be wrong.Sleet wrote:Really? There hasn't been another CGI box office bomb before?

just cause something makes back it's budget doesn't mean it isn't considered a box office failure. most movies need to make twice it's budget or something. Rise of the Guardians, while a good movie, is considered a box office failure by the studio if I've heard right

To add to this, Warner Brothers has produced more box office bombs than any other studio. But, of the top 10 (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) biggest box office failures of all time, half of them were produced by Disney or one of its subsidiaries.

Oh, right. I never realised that. I always thought the sticky stuff that came out was sap.

Something about the English language: despite the pineapple fruit being known in other languages like Latin, Hebrew and Hindi as 'ananas' or any variation of the base word 'ananas', it is still known in English in a completely different word 'pineapple', the only one between 28 languages to do that.
Oh, and pineapple in my native language, Malay, is 'nenas' or 'nanas'. Just saying.

The English language, unlike languages, one example being German, has no plural form of the word "you". So we Southerners had to improvise.

Re: Useless Information Thread
I actually legitimately support "y'all" as the plural for "you." In all types of English, not just informal. It's a useful word. Useful words should exist.
I also support the singular androgynous "they." Technically incorrect grammar, but it shouldn't be. English needs it.

??? The United States, by act of Congress, officially recognized the metric system in 1866. In 1893, the Mendenhall Order based our fundamental measures of length and mass on metric units. All extant countries officially recognize or use the metric system, despite persistent myth to the contrary.Radio Blue Heart wrote:The United States, Liberia and Myanmar (Burma) are the only countries in the world that do not officially use the metric system.

That's assuming that the time interval is constant, which according to Einstein, it wouldn't be since time and space are linked (spacetime) and are affected by gravity.Radio Blue Heart wrote:Now it is based on the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 of a second.
