Chapter 1)


It has been three weeks since the disappearance of pets started in Babylon Gardens...


The first to go was Sasha. She was supposed to be spending some time with Kevin on Saturday but she never showed up, that left Kevin understandably disappointed but also worried cause this wasn't like Sasha in the slightest.
Kevin thought he could ask her if something was wrong during her routine walk in the park due to him being on patrol there.

His morning patrol had been & gone with no signs of her, it was now getting dark as he was making his way back home
When he noticed Daisy sitting on a bench with a sombre expression on her face

--Kevin "Is something wrong?" "You seem upset"

--Daisy "N-no just" Sigh** "Would you happen to know where she is?"

--Kevin "Where who is?"

--Daisy "Where Sasha is, I haven't seen her since Thursday..."

--Kevin "I'm sorry, I have not but if I run into her I'll let her know that you asked"


3 days later)

Nobody has seen or heard of Sasha in a couple of days which was uncharacteristic of her.
Some just thought she had ran off somewhere but then again she would've let someone know.
It was certainly a lot better than what some at the police department came up with.

They thought Sasha's owner had mortally wounded her during one of his drunken rages and instead of risking questioning regarding her injuries at the vet, he drove her out of town & dumped her somewhere.
Considering those who had been with her prior had said that she wasn't acting unusual or strange.

5 days later)

Sasha was named as a missing pet and the K9 started a systematic search of the residence for anything that could be a clue as of her whereabouts but alas nothing was found & no evidence was found in the car.

1 week later)

The search for Sasha had ran cold with no clues as of potential whereabouts, it seemed as if she would never be found & some simply lost hope.

Meanwhile at the animal shelter)

A woman walked in & started talking to the receptionist.

--Emma "So how was the first day on the job?"

--Charlie "Nothing eventful to say the least"

--Emma "Has anyone given a pet a new loving home?"
She said whilst going to give the cats water & some kibbles before stopping outside of Leo's room.

--Charlie "Nobody but had a few look at the dogs"

--Emma "You sure nobody has taken any of them?"
As she looked in Leo's room

--Charlie "As I've said nobody has taken any of them, only had some look at the dogs"

Emma rushed back to the reception

--Emma "You sure about that cause Leo isn't in there"

--Charlie "You sure he isn't hiding like lastime?"

--Emma "Seriously?" "Just follow me and have a look for yourself"

--Charlie "Alright" he said as he followed Emma towards Leo's room

--Emma "See?" "No Leo"
She said gesturing towards Leo's room

--Charlie "Great first day on the job and there's a missing animal"

--Emma "I'll go see if all the dogs are here"

--Charlie "And I do what?"

--Emma " Call 911"

--Charlie "But if the manager--"

--Emma "And what if the manager finds out that you didn't want to contact the authorities in the case of a missing animal?"

--Charlie "Good point"
He said as he dialled whilst Emma went to check on the dogs

--Emma "Hey! Oscar is missing as well"

Charlie ends the call**

--Charlie "I'm so, fired"

The local animal shelter had reported two missing animals however when the authorities arrived they didn't find any signs of a struggle nor did the security tapes show anything out of the usual.
So their next course of action was to get witness statements from the employees & to interview the cats and dogs in the shelter to see if any of them had seen or heard something.

Chapter 2)

A single light in the centre of the ceiling illuminating the room, a camera placed in the corner slowly moving, keeping track of what was happening whilst there was a table & two chairs, one at either side...
In one there was a small cat from the shelter, on the other?
There was a massive dark cannine that looked intimidating to the poor cat, it was bad enough being in a shelter but the current situation definitely didn't help.

--Mungo "No need to be afraid, I won't hurt ya"
He said, waiting for the cat's response

--??? "Just, I don't know got a feeling of dread"
The cat said in a soft voice

--Mungo "I know it probably isn't easy, going through whatever before ending up in a shelter & now?"
"That must be difficult"

--??? "You could say that"
The cat looked down & started swinging its legs under the table

Mungo cupped his hands on the table causing it to collapse
--Mungo "Sorry"

The cat just remained silent

--Mungo "What's your name?"

The cat looked up making eye contact with Mungo

--??? "Tabby"

--Mungo "That's a nice name,"

--Mungo "Ok no pressure Tabby but do you remember what happened the night when Leo disappeared?"

--Tabby "Wait something happened to Leo?"

--Mungo "I don't have the answer to that but maybe you do, can you recall anything from that night in question?"

--Tabby "I was sleeping, well I trying to at least when a bright white light came from Leo's room, so I just buried my head into the pillow trying to get to sleep"

--Tabby "I guess he had the TV on late or something, never asked why"

Mungo leaned in closer
--Mungo "Was that something he had done on a regular basis?"

--Tabby "Occasionally but not all the time"

--Mungo "By any chance did you hear what he was watching on it?"

--Tabby "No, just a..."

--Tabby "It wasn't Leo watching TV was it?"

--Mungo "Can't say but thanks for the details, anything else?"

--Tabby "No, that's all"

--Mungo "Alright thanks for your cooperation, if you need anything"

--Tabby "No I won't but thanks"
She said smiling

Mungo stood up out of the chair & went to the door

--Tabby "You're going to open that?"

--Mungo "No I'll just follow behind, you saw what happened to that table"
Mungo jokingly said

Tabby let out a small chuckle as she got out of the room & held the door open for Mungo, before heading off back to the shelter

Mungo entered a room with an officer & another K9

--Alex "Have we got anything of interest from the shelter animals?"

--Mungo "Tabby had said she was trying to sleep when a bright white light came from Leo's room but they just shrugged it off and went to sleep"

--Mungo "She thought it was the TV but she couldn't hear any noise from it,"

--Mungo "It could've been whoever or whatever took 'em"

--Alex "Good job Mungo, is everything intact?"

--Mungo "No sir"

--Fin "Apollo said he saw a light emanating from Oscar's room with little to no sound, as he was awakened by it"

--Alex "Understood, good work from the both of you"

--Alex "Dismissed"


1 week/2 days later since the first missing pet)

Three missing pets within less than two weeks without evidence of any kind left at the scenes.
Due to recent "events" the police department started putting trackers into K9's collars so in the case of one of them going missing, they'd be able to find their last location before it was removed and if they got lucky?
They'd catch whoever is responsible,

There was talk wether or not they should advise owners but they decided to leave that till the following week if there were no more missing pets, however it would be sooner if it were a worst case scenario.

1 week/5 days later)

Two pets were reported missing by their owners, Remy & Lucy, their rooms were left almost untouched by their owners but it was the same story.
No signs of an obvious struggle but Lucy's bedroom window was open.
Anyone could've sneaked in but to take both a fully grown cat & dog without making a sound?

It was finally decided to advise owners to get their pets a tracker of some description

3 weeks later)

Some owners got their pets trackers that clipped onto their collar similar to the tags, however a couple of pets didn't like that and viewed it as a breach of their privacy & trust but went along with it anyway to not upset their owners...

And the authorities desperately tried everything and anything to assure people that the missing pets would be found, some were still hopeful that something would show up & bust the case wide open.

Chapter 3)

Grape was heading home after watching the new Pridelands movie with Maxwell who was now walking beside her

--Maxwell "C'mon Grape, why do you have to go now?"
As he stopped in his tracks outside the house

--Grape "Cause, my owners don't like me being out late nowadays" "We had a great night out, don't let a tiny thing ruin that"

--Maxwell "Ok, same time next week?"

--Grape "Yeah, see you later Maxie"
She said as she waved to Maxwell who returned a wave before she closed the door & Maxwell started heading back home

--Grape "I'm back"

She said as she took off her tracker & entered the Kitchen placing the tracker down on the table before going upstairs into her room,

A couple moments later)

Jill had entered the Kitchen and noticed Grape's tracker was just left lying on the table, she picked it up and asked

--Jill " Grape?"

"In here"

She heard from Grape's room as she made her way up & opened the door.
Grape turned her attention from the book she was reading to her owner & had noticed she was holding her tracker in her hand

--Jill "You know what this is for?"

--Grape "It isn't like anyone is gonna get in uninvited, Mom"

--Jill "No I was just making sure you put somewhere where you wouldn't forgot it"
She said handing it over to Grape

--Grape "I'll place it alongside my spare tag then"

Jill looked at the window

--Jill "Grape, could you please close the window & lock it?"

--Grape "What if there's a fire"

--Jill "Here"
She said as she put the key underneath Grape's bed

--Jill "For emergencies only and nothing else, understood?"

--Grape "Got it, thanks Mom"

Later that night)

Grape woke up with the strangest of feelings, almost as if she was being watched...

--Grape "Hello, anyone?"

No response

She listened but nothing, she couldn't hear anything.

"Come on Grape it is just nothing"
She said to herself

She was just going back to sleep when she saw a light shining into her room

--Grape "Seriously stop it now, it isn't funny!"

No response, then fog started entering her room & she noticed three figures standing in the doorway
They were all in white with what Grape thought looked like a glass covering over their face but she couldn't see one, they looked like they were a similar height to Earl but this wasn't time for her to be thinking

One of the figures looked to the one in the middle who nodded then made what felt like eye contact with Grape and started moving towards her

She realised what this meant, it was sink or swim...

She threw herself against the window

THUD!!

As she fell onto the ground, leaving the window in pieces

She could hear the figures getting closer as she almost got herself out of the window when one of her legs were grabbed by one of the figures trying to pull her back, she cut herself on one of the shards of glass as she was pulled back into the room...

She took her front claws and tried to dig into the floor with them to try & stop herself but she was being dragged along as she was clawing the floor, leaving behind marks.

As the figures dragged her into the light she was crying for help but nobody answered, as everything went dark...

Chapter 4)

The following morning?)

Everything was dark & there was a ringing in Grape's ear.
As she eventually got out of bed she then closed the door & proceeded to check her surroundings...

The memory of what happened prior was blurry but there were some fragments here & there when the intact window caught her glimpse, Grape looked at her arms and couldn't find any signs of the cuts nor bleeding.

"So it was all a dream?" "But it felt so real,"
She thought to herself.

Grape approached the window, looking outside.

It appeared to be another normal day in Babylon Gardens.
The sun was shining bright in the sky with little to no clouds

Meanwhile the door opened slightly as a cream muzzle poked out

--Peanut "Grape"
The dog whispered but no response

--Peanut "GRAPE!!"

Grape turned round and went over to open the door.

--Grape "Peanut, that isn't funny..."

--Peanut "S-sorry"

--Grape "I was already up"

--Grape "Anyway why are you in here?" "I thought you would've been outside, considering the weather"

--Peanut "Mom wanted me to check on you"

--Grape "Well I didn't go out the window if that's what she meant"

--Peanut "Also I found something out in the woods"

--Grape "Alright just let me get my tracker on"
She said as she slid out the drawer & grabbed her tracker before sliding it back in, she then clipped it onto her collar

--Grape "Peanut have you ever wondered what the point of these trackers are?"

--Peanut "So if we go missing Mom or Dad will be able to find us..."

--Grape "And we gave away our privacy for that?"

--Peanut "You've been abandoned?" "Imagine what it would be like if someone you cared about just disappeared without a trace"

--Grape "My owner didn't disappear they just di" Grape sighed "What's stopping someone from ripping it off of our collars?"

--Grape "They're like the pet doors,"

--Peanut "And?"

--Grape "So they might do what is in the name but only that" "Sure it might give them its current location but we'd be long gone by then"

--Peanut "Still, at least it is better than nothing"

--Grape "I suppose, what was that thing you wanted to show me in the woods?"

--Peanut "Something close to an old cabin"

--Grape "Fine I'll go have a look with you but as long as none of us are going in the cabin"

Chapter 4, part 2)

Out in the woods)

--Grape "How long till we're there Peanut?" "It feels like we've been walking for hours, even the temple wasn't this far out"

--Peanut "Almost there"

--Grape "If I had known it would take this long, I would've brought something to eat"
She said when she noticed something.

There was a dilapidated cabin...
The front door was off of the hinges and above it was a balcony held up by what looked like small pieces of timber with nails sticking out of it, the rest of the cabin seemed to consist of botched repairs.
The only part of the cabin that was in relatively good condition was a plaque beneath the balcony.

--Grape "Is this it?"

--Peanut "Yeah that's it"

--Grape "What a shame"

--Peanut "What is?"

--Grape "The fact that this was probably a nice place to stay but now look at it"
She said whilst observing the cabin just as the balcony collapsed sending dust into the air with the debris covering the plaque

--Grape "Was that what you dragged me over here for?"

--Peanut "It was under that balcony, help me clear it?"

--Grape "Just tell me what it was, you wouldn't of dragged me over here for just that"
Grape turned to Peanut

--Peanut "I didn't drag you thou"

--Grape "You know what I mean"

--Grape "Anyway I guess we could watch the night sky for a bit then head back"
Grape said meanwhile Peanut was trying to clear some of the debris

--Peanut "And in the morning?"

--Grape "We head back like nothing has happened" "You do remember the way back?"

--Peanut "Yeah about that..."

--Grape "You forgot?"

--Peanut "Don't you remember?"

--Grape "So we're sleeping out here for the night"

--Peanut "Who said anything about being out here in the cold?"

--Grape "Peanut don't tell me you're thinking of entering that cabin?"

--Peanut "Couldn't be any worse than sleeping out here"

--Grape "Apart from the ghosts"

--Peanut "It is just one night, what could go wrong?"

--Grape "Anything and everything now that you said that"

Peanut walked over to the doorway and Grape followed.
As a black & white furred figure leaned against a tree and watched the Cat & Dog bickering as they entered the cabin, tapping its claws against the bark of the tree before disappearing back into the woods...

Chapter 4, part 3)

Peanut sprung out of bed & headed downstairs with tracker on collar, as he poured a bowl of kibble and took a seat just as Earl was finishing breakfast & getting ready to leave for work
Jill was busy reading the morning's paper

--Peanut "What does that mean?"
Peanut rested a finger on the headline
"Lights over the night skies of Babylon?"

--Earl " Peanut, wanna play some fetch later?"

--Peanut "Do I?"
Peanut said enthusiastically as Earl left, closing the door...

--Peanut "Doesn't everyone see planes' landing lights, especially at night?"

--Jill "No Peanut, that means people have spotted what is called a UFO"

--Peanut "That's a silly thing to call something"

--Jill "It isn't a name it is a ter
Before she could finish her sentence Earl entered in a hurry and asked if someone could check on Grape's room

--Peanut "Ok Dad, I'll go waken her"
He said getting off of the chair & Earl looked at Jill and shook his head

--Jill "Errr, maybe it would be better if you waited here whilst your Dad does it?"

--Peanut "Okay then..."
He said as he sat in his chair & started eating the kibbles in the bowl,

Meanwhile Earl was making his way upstairs & entered Grape's room, when he did he almost couldn't believe what state it was in!
A broken window with pieces of fur in the window frame
With shards of glass & claw marks on the floor alongside what looked like blood

He slowly closed the door and went downstairs then made his way into the kitchen.

--Earl " Peanut? Could you wait in the other room here whilst your Mother and I have a little talk in the kitchen?"

--Peanut "You two aren't gonna f-fight are you?"

--Earl "No nobody's gonna fight, besides what would we fight about?"

--Jill "You not being at work right now?"

--Earl "About that"

Peanut finished his kibbles & entered the living room,

--Earl "Grape isn't in her room"

--Jill "So? Maybe she snuck out?"

--Earl "The room is a mess, the window is broken and I think she might have cut herself on the glass"

--Earl "Could you take Peanut over to the park & play fetch or whatever with him whilst I'm dealing with the police?"

--Jill "So you're gonna say that we didn't hear or notice glass shattering during the night, anyway Grape is Peanut's sister"
"Shouldn't we tell him?"

--Earl "Not too soon, I'd rather break the news to him when there isn't police & K-9 in the house going through her room"
"Just so he doesn't get too upset"

--Jill "He might get upset due to us trying to hide that from him though"

--Earl "I'm sure he will understand"

--Jill "Fair enough, I'll go ask him if he'd like to go to the park"

Jill entered the living room.

--Jill "Say Peanut, would you like to go to the park?"

--Peanut "Sure!"

Jill left through the room followed by Peanut who was wagging his tail as he soon went ahead of Jill...

In the house)

Earl watched as Jill took Peanut to the park or the other way around considering Jill could barely keep up with him, before he called the police but after he did, something hit him

"Wait are they gonna believe that?" "We're going to be suspects for sure"
He thought

A couple minutes later there was a knock at the door, as he opened the door he noticed a police officer with a German Shepherd & who Earl could only guess was the dog's supervisor.

--Earl "Would you like some tea or something?" "Have a seat"
He said as they entered

--Officer "I'm Cooper, our little friend over here is Fin alongside his handler James"

--Fin "I prefer the term supervisor"

--Cooper "Ok, supervisor"

--Cooper "Anyway you reported a missing pet?"

--Earl "Yes, want me to show you their room?"

--Cooper "That would be appreciated"

He said as he got up & followed Earl upstairs along with Fin and James

--Earl "This is the room he said as he opened the door, Fin pulled out a camera
Snapping photos of the room,

--Cooper "We can leave them there, meanwhile you wouldn't mind answering some questions?"

--Earl "No I don't mind"

10 minutes later)

--Cooper "So, you didn't hear anything during the night when it happened?"

--Earl "Sounds crazy I know,"

--Cooper "Anyway where's your dog & wife?"

--Earl "Over at the park, I was the first one to notice"

--Cooper "Does she have a phone?"

--Earl "She does, want me to text them so they can come over?"

--Cooper "If you could"

Over at the park)

Jill got a text asking if she & Peanut could head back
"Seriously? What was he thinking"
She said to herself as Peanut caught the frisbee

--Jill "Time to go back home Peanut"

--Peanut "Awww, can we stay a little bit longer?"

--Jill "I'm afraid not"
She said as she left the park with Peanut reluctantly following behind

--Peanut "Why do we have to go now?"

--Jill "We just do, Peanut" "I'll make it up later"

--Peanut "Ok,,,"
"Why are we going back now?"
"Maybe it so Grape can come with us"
"Maybe it is a surprise"
He thought of what the reason for them leaving could've been

After a minute's walk they could finally see the house but what Peanut saw made his pure of gold heart skip a beat
There was a police car parked outside of the house and he had noticed that Grape's bedroom window was broken with parts of the frame still intact...
Peanut just stood still in disbelief, trying to make sense of what he was witnessing as Jill waved her hand in front of his face

--Jill "Peanut? Are you ok?"

--Peanut "I a-am but what ab-about Grape?"
He said as his eyes were watering up, on the verge of tears

Chapter 5, part 1)

"What happened to her?" "Is she safe, is she afraid?"

"Will I ever see her again?" "This isn't happening"

All these thoughts raced around Peanut's head, as he tried running towards the house Jill grabbed his shoulder bringing him to a halt

--Peanut "M-Mom let me go!!"
The dog cried as he turned around, Jill lowered herself to Peanut's level as he buried his head into her shoulder...
Jill rubbed the back of his head trying to calm him down

--Jill "Sweetie?" "It'll be alright"
As Peanut raised his head to look at her in the eyes, she could see the tears streaming down his face

--Peanut "Pr-pr-promise?"
The dog asked

--Jill "I promise"
She said

James got in the front passenger seat, as Fin got in the rear...
Cooper was watching Peanut as he got up and hugged Jill, before the two made their way towards the house...

James looked over at the rear seat and asked
-James "Fin, could you move over to the other side slightly?"

--Fin "Alright"
He said as he slid over to the other side before fastening the seatbelt, meanwhile Cooper was talking to Jill

--Cooper "You're Earl's Wife?"

--Jill "Yes..."

--Cooper "Then this must be his dog"
He said as he patted Peanut's head as he started wagging his tail slightly

--Jill "Yeah that's Peanut"

--Cooper "Say Peanut, we need you to answer a couple questions over at the station?"
"You wouldn't mind that, would you?"

Peanut looked over at Jill and then back to Cooper,

--Peanut "I don't"
He said as he got into the car

--Jill "Guessing I have to come as well?"

--Cooper "There should be just about enough room, if Peanut doesn't mi"

--Peanut "I don't mind"
He said as he moved onto the middle seat followed by Jill before they fastened their seatbelts & closed the door

Earl watched from the window as the car drove away into the distance...

Chapter 5, part 2)

It was late in the afternoon with rain pouring down as Jill was sitting beside Peanut on a bench outside the Police Station, waiting for Earl to come pick them up

"Why'd you do that?"
Peanut asked under his breath

--Jill "What do you mean by that, Peanut?"

--Peanut "Why try to hide it from me,"

Jill let out a audible sigh
--Jill "Earl and I love you two very much, you're like our kids for the lack of a better way to put it"
She looked over to Peanut

--Jill "Something happened that wasn't fun for either of us, and the last thing we would do is something which would harm the two of you"

--Peanut "You coulda told me sooner"

--Jill "Sorry about that, your Dad thought it would be the better option"

--Peanut "Better than what?
The dog muttered to himself just as Earl pulled up

Peanut opened the rear door and got himself onto one of the seats before slamming the door shut and done his seatbelt
Followed by Jill who got in the passenger side & Earl looked at her

--Earl "What's gotten him in a mood?"

--Jill "Your idea, that's what"
She said as she closed the door and fastened her seatbelt

During the drive home)

--Peanut "What was so bad that you had to hide it from me?"

--Jill "Notice how Fin asked you some questions?"

--Peanut "Regarding Grape?" "Yea he did"

--Jill "And what were those questions about?"

--Peanut "Fur color and my relation with her wether it was good or bad,"

--Jill "See the window in Grape's room?"

--Peanut "Uh huh"

--Jill "They found some of her fur in the window frame, alongside other stuff"
"They wanted to know in case it was another pet or animal who had done it"

--Peanut "But Grape is the only purple pet that I... Know of"

--Jill "Yeah that you know of, they were just making sure that it was from her & not from whoever had done it"

--Peanut "What about her though?"

--Jill "The police are doing everything that they can do"
"But with saying that Grape has been through a lot"

--Peanut "Like what?"

Jill paused for a moment

--Earl "What I think she was saying is that Grape is a survivor"
"I'm sure if she could, she'd find a way, and that she is probably worried sick about you"
He said as he drove the car onto their driveway

--Peanut "What if she is in danger?"

Earl & Jill got out of the car, followed by Peanut who was in a panic

--Jill "Your Dad is right, though I suppose we could put up missing pet flyers later"

I think that the best thing to do to make sure Peanut doesn't completely lose it is to put up the pet fliers. Wonderful job on creating this chapter! I can't wait to see what the next installment will bring!

Intriguing... The police questioning could have added a wider layer to your suspense - what do the police want to know, what do they know, and what sinister information might they be trying to keep from the public (like … "Don't panic but we're totally baffled!!"). Nice suspense and terrific pacing!

Chapter 6)

Peanut was in his room, drawing Grape for the flyers that Jill were making, accidentally drawing outside of the lines at times

--Peanut "There finished"
He said as he went past Grape's room which had the door shut
As Peanut went downstairs he made his way into the Kitchen where Jill was

--TV-- "If you don't understand us then please understand its studious effects, psychological, philo"
Earl turned down the volume...

--Earl " Peanut, I think your Mom is almost finished"
"What are those?"
He said pointing towards the pieces of paper

--Peanut "They're drawings, so people know what she looks like?"

--Earl "How about some photos?" "I'm sure that'll do the trick..."

--Peanut "I think Mom is already doing that,"

Jill left the Kitchen with a dozen or so flyers in hand

--Peanut "Is that all of them?"

--Jill "No there's another one but that's so we can print it out"
"These are just ones for handing over to your friends & their owners"

--Peanut "Let's go out with them then"

--Jill "It is late, how about in the morning?"

--Peanut "B-but Grape is..."

--Jill "In the morning, I don't want you to go missing"

--Peanut "But the neighbourhood is huge"

--Jill "You don't know literally every single pet that's here,"
"Besides we were just going to hand them out to pets you know and put up the rest of them"

--Earl "Don't forget to the vet!"

--Peanut "No I'm not going there"

--Earl "I meant put one up on the bulletin board"

--Jill "Good suggestion"

Over at the police station)

--James "Is something wrong?"

--Fin "Just frustrated, that's all"

--James "Don't be, then"

--Fin "Kinda hard not to when you're dealing with missing pets that don't seem to share anything in common"

--James "You don't know that"

--Fin "Sasha had nothing in common with Leo and Oscar,"

--James "What did those two have in common with the others?"

--Fin "They're shelter animals, Sasha wasn't from a shelter though"

--James "What about that one you were dealing with?"

--Fin "Grape? I believe the dog said something about a shelter name"

--James "So half of them were from shelters, that's something"
"If you think this is hard then you have no idea how difficult it is to reassure people that their pets will be back"

--James "Consider yourself lucky that you don't have to do that"

Chapter 7)

Location unknown... In the cabin)

Grape was awakened by sound of thunder, her vision was still hazy...
After a couple seconds had passed she noticed Peanut was slumped up against the wall beside the fireplace

As a flash of lightning lit up a Border Collie that was standing over Peanut, it was wearing a blue collar with a Locket instead of a tag, its gaze then turned to Grape... She noticed the door out of the living room was still open as she decided to make a run for it!
Getting out of the living turning just at the hall and exiting the cabin through the doorway

She could feel her heart as it was pounding, after a couple seconds had passed Grape looked over her shoulder to see if the Collie was chasing her when she ran into a branch knocking herself unconscious...

When she regained consciousness Grape had a quick look around, she was still in the living room but Peanut wasn't instead there was something else in his place however it didn't look like a dog or even a cat that was for sure!

It was made out of some kind of material which looked similar to that of the figures in Grape's nightmare, it appeared to have a dark mass of cables and wires at the joints, it was just a bit shorter than your average dog
Its legs were round with a joint were the paws would be which seemed to consist of one part with separate segments connected to it with slits where the claws would be

The body had a seam running up the middle of it up to the arms, the arms were similar to the legs in construction the only difference was a covering where the elbow was & the paws with opposable digits which had a rough material and the digits had a small sharp curved blade which would recede in the small hole which they were in

The head was smaller than the rest of the thing's body in comparison but it had a rounded off crest like shape as it went back
She noticed there was a transparent covering that went from where the eyes would be to the top of the muzzle which was cracked and a blue liquid was dripping out of it

It had no eyes only three lights where they'd be which were changing color and moved ever so slightly

--Grape "What is that thing?
She made her way over to the body

"Come on Grape don't let curiosity kill the cat, just find Peanut and head back home"
She said to herself

"Peanut?! Are you here?"
Echoed throughout the old cabin, as the thing's left arm and legs started twitching causing Grape to jump back

--??? "So you're finally up eh?" "Don't worry about your lil' friend over there"
Grape turned around only to see that the same Collie from before was now blocking the doorway

--Grape "Where is he and what did you do to him?"
Grape said was a slight hiss

--??? "Your friend?" "He is right over there"
The Collie said pointing towards the body

She looked over her shoulder
--Grape "How do I know that?" "For all I know you took him somewhere and replaced him with that Chuck E Cheese wannabe..."

--??? "Unfortunately... You, gotta take my word for it" " Also that thing wasn't too bad, it managed to trick you into thinking it was your friend?"

--Grape "None of this makes any sense"

--??? "It doesn't?" "How did you end up here?"

--Grape "Peanut led me... Here?" "He was gonna wake me up, he said he wanted to show me something"

--??? "And before that?"

--Grape "What the day before?"
The Collie went over to the body lifting up the head slightly before dropping it

--??? "No, the night before..."

--Grape "Nothing happened except for"

--??? "Except for a nightmare where you were dragged away by white figures, then woke up as if nothing had happened?"

Grape rolled her eyes
"Not another psychic"

--??? "Rings a bell?"

--Grape "It does, kinda"
"This dog is onto something"
She thought

--Grape "Let me guess, little green men brought us here?"

The Collie let out a chuckle as he finished examining the body

--??? "Yes, little green men who come from mars"
He jokingly said as he got up

--??? "Oh how rude of me to not introduce myself, I'm Echo"

--Grape "That's a weird name, don't ya think?"

--Echo "And what's your name then?"

--Grape "...Grape"

Chapter 8)

Outside the cabin)

Echo and Grape were watching the night sky, or whatever was portraying it

--Grape "So let me get this straight, we were abducted by aliens?"

--Echo "I wouldn't say aliens, what made you come up with that idea?"

--Grape "Who else could've made that double though?"

--Echo "Hmmm true though the question as of who or why is pointless right now"
"Cause we're still in this machination"

--Grape "Haven't you tried looking for a way out?"

--Echo "At first but now?"
"My owners probably forgot about me and moved on, who could blame them?"
As he drew breath Grape looked over to him

--Grape "I'm sure that they wouldn't have forgotten that quickly...."

--Echo "It has either been a couple months or a year"
"I've lost track if I'm being honest"
Grape started staring into the night

--Grape "But they'll still remember you"
"Even after the years pass, something as painful as that sticks with you"

--Echo "Speaking from experience, I'll leave it at that"
"Don't you have people who are probably worried about you?"

--Grape "Not just me, there's four or five other missing pets where I'm from"
"A lot of people are worried"
She replied to the Collie

"Especially Maxwell and... Peanut"
She thought

--Echo "If there was a way out, would you leave me behind?"

--Grape "Leave you behind in this place, what kinda question is that?"
"Nobody deserves to be ripped away from their loving owners and friends like that"

--Echo "I don't have much to return home to, that's why I asked"

--Grape "Surely someone must miss you?"

--Echo "Grew up in a pet friendly neighbourhood I'm guessing?"
"Where I was there were three pets, a rabbit and two cats..."

--Echo "Occasionally one of the kid's relatives would bring along their dog when visiting"
"Don't get me wrong I didn't hate the kids per say, just that I never felt like I fit in"

--Grape "Not counting yourself, can't imagine what that must have been like then"
"Do you remember the name or address of where you came from?"

--Echo "Apart from a vague memory of it, no I don't remember"
"Though this place seems nice..."
