Hey guys I just realized that I never told you all about the fact that just got my first job. This unfortunately means that I will be posting less often. I will post the coming chapters when I can, but don't hold your breath.

On the side note: I am still accepting requests for guest appearances from other OC's besides Mickey since I have already featured her. So shoot me a private message if you are interested

Chapter 4 part 1 : Golden Geese and Silver Dragons

A few days later, in parts unknown:

Venn awakens from his long slumber in some kind of black vortex that is carrying him from the mortal plane, down to the shadowlands; where Hades is waiting. Venn exits the vortex and steps down form the portal onto an endless and seamless road that looks to go on forever.

“So…this is it. Is this what death feels like?”

Venn turns around and looks up into the sky to see a man wearing a black cloak that covers all but his eyes and mouth. His eyes glow red and his mouth is permanently shaped into a smile made up of spiked teeth running from one end of his jaw to the other.

“Father…”

“Venn…”

The two spirits stare down with emotionless demeanors until one of them decides to break the silence:

“You should count yourself lucky; you could have died today if it weren’t for the Spirit Dragon…”

“What do you mean?”

“Dragon took it upon herself to bravely venture into these shadowlands and risked everything she knew, including her life, to save you.”

“What? You mean Dragon came here by herself…and confronted you?!”

“You should have known that I was already aware of your love for Dragon, I regrettably sent Egar to find you and bring you back here so that I could revoke your spiritual powers. I never counted on the fact that he would risk his freedom to kill you…but that is no longer important.”

“Yeah...” Venn says sarcastically “Accidents happen.”

“Dragon showed me what it means to love again. As part of our deal, I will no longer pester or bring any harm to you, Dragon, or your future family.”

“But what happened to Egar?”

Hades holds up his left hand through his cloak to show a spider encased in a large ball of crystallized sap clutched in his clawed fingers. “Egar will no longer be allowed into the mortal plane, nor will he be able to leave the shadowlands…I’ll make sure of it.”

“Well that is a-*” Venn then thinks back to what Hades had said about the deal he and Dragon made. “Wait…Did you say: ‘Future Family’?”

The open portal behind Venn then starts to waver and shrink with a strange pulsing sound.

“Oops, sorry I can only keep this inter-dimensional portal open for so long. It’s time for you to leave Venn.”

“But wait! What did you mean by that?!” Venn yells as he is pushed towards the shrinking portal. “I still have more questions…”

Hades removes his cloak and holds out one of his metal hands in front of Venn’s face, reciting some kind of incantation under his breath. Hades finishes the spell and says some final words to Venn:

“Venn, your soul has been denied the afterlife and it is time for you to return to your body in the mortal realm. Awaken and receive the fruits that I have taught you were poisoned from the day you were born. Do not forsake your future, for soon your relationship will be strengthened in ways you cannot imagine. Change is coming Venn…its time to WAKE UP!”

Hades uses his power to thrust Venn back into the portal just before is closes, but not before slicing off a lock of fur from Venn when it closed around the end of his tail. Hades walks over and picks up the bit of fur, holding in his metal hand as he puts his cloak back on.

“Well time to get back to work…COME ON EVERYONE!”

Hades starts walking down the road with an endless line of sprits following close behind.

=====================================================

Meanwhile in the inter-dimensional portal:

Venn yells out in fear as he tumbles through the black portal. Before, the portals path was straight and seemed pretty short, but now it was twisting and turning like a water slide with no gravity. The portals path is also greatly increased from several yards to about two miles.

Venn finally rights himself and flies headfirst through the portal’s vortex. Venn takes a look at the walls of the vortex and can see a faint image of Dragon in the form of a Komodo dragon coming into view from beyond the cylinder of black clouds and gravity. The image becomes clearer and clearer to Venn until it becomes fully focused. The image then flashes and the black vortex that blocked the view of the image disappears to reveal a crystal clear image of Dragon sleeping in a chair beside him as he lays in some kind of bed.

Wow this image is so clear it looks like I can…Wait…this is real. I’m in a hospital bed with dragon sleeping in a chair beside me.

Venn can then hear the tones of his Heart rate monitor increase in frequency, awaking Dragon from her peaceful and well-deserved slumber. She slowly opens her eyes and looks over to see Venn awake and moving.

“Venn, you’re alright!” Dragon then jumps up from the bed and changes into her Human-like form so that she can wrap her
arms around his upper body, and surprising him with a kiss. “But I don’t understand…Tony said that you wouldn’t make it through the night.”

“You can thank my Dad for that.” Venn then looks down at Dragon’s hands to see that the cast on her left hand is gone. “Hey Dragon, your hand is healed.”

“That’s right, ever since Hades took Egar away from this plane, everything has been going back to normal.”

Venn and Dragon are then both alerted to the sound of frantic snarling and the banging of a metal grate. On the other end of the room is a Transparent, Green Dog kennel with Bino inside. He scratches and bangs at the locked cage door with a purple glow still in his eyes. “Well…almost everything”

"Oh that’ll just wear off. Egar’s psychic influence on him will only linger for a few more hours by the looks of it, just make sure he doesn’t get out…”

“Don’t worry Venn, that cage was built to hold things a lot stronger than Bino.”

Venn sits up in the bed and looks beneath the bandages that were covering his body. Venn expected to see numerous amounts of cracks, but finds none. “I thought Egar did some damage to my body from our fight?”

Dragon then points to the opposite end of the room. Venn looks over and sees a very fat man with a stained lab coat sleeping in a flimsy chair; he snores softly with bits of food around the edges of his mouth and several empty boxes of assorted donuts at his feet and on top of his bulging belly. Venn almost laughs at the sight of Tony sleeping like that, but he manages to tone it down to a small grin.

“He wore himself out working on you,” Dragon says. “Even though he thought you were a lost cause”

“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you Dragon. My Dad told me about what you did in the shadowlands. It was amazing how you were able to change his mind so quickly.”

“I don’t know how I did it, Hades wore a suit of armor that blocked me completely out of his mind, so my psychic powers were useless on him, and yet I changed his mind.” Dragon then looks back at Venn, expecting him to be mad because she risked her life for him, but he wasn’t. Venn was smiling brightly.

Venn leans into dragon and gives her a kiss this time. “Dragon my darling, I have a feeling that our luck will start to change. You know what they say: ‘Things will get worse before they get better’, and I think we just survived the worst of it. That must mean that things will start to change for the better.”

“In that case…I have a very big surprise for you Venn…”

Venn’s eyes instantly shrink to the size of Pin-points and he turns his head towards Dragon, finally understanding what Hades was talking about. “What is it?”

Dragon stands up, reaches underneath her seat and pulls out a Dodge-ball sized Egg with a shell that looks like Polished Silver.

Venn widens his eyes and slides back in his bed with a boundless sense of shock running from his brain into his spine. “WHAT IN THE NAME OF-*!?” Venn falls off the opposite side of the bed and hits the ground with a metallic THUNK! He immediately recovers and pops up from the other side of the bed with his jaw dropped.

“Wh-Wha-When-When did this happen!?”

“Two days ago.”

“TWO DAYS AGO!? How long was I out for?!”

“Only four days. Don’t worry you didn’t miss anything besides people sending out endless amounts of Apology cards when Egar’s effects had worn off.”

Venn walks over to Dragon and runs his hand along the curved metallic surface of the Egg, seeing his and Dragons distorted reflections on the egg’s mirror-like surface.

“So…is it a--?”

“--Venn…even if I COULD tell if it was a boy or girl…” Dragon says with a smile “I would want it to be a surprise…”

Venn then takes the egg from Dragon in his hands. It was a lot lighter than he had imagined it would be, only about ten pounds. He inspects the egg shell and then places it down on top of the bed he had fallen from.

“What kind of spirit do you think it’s gonna be?”

“its probably going to be a dragon hatching from that egg by the looks of it.”

“How can you tell…?”

Dragon smiles and walks over to the Egg. She picks it up and holds it up to the fluorescent lights in the ceiling. The light shines through the shell to reveal the small shape of a developing dragon in the center of it. The baby dragon has a long body like Dragon’s, and is developing what looks like wings on its back.

“I can’t believe it…I'm going to be the father of a Dragon...”

Ive actually done my research on this. I can safely say that Dragons do, in fact, lay eggs.
(ive been wanting to do this arc for a long time, so i was sure to consult my sources before i took a wild guess)

How painful would it be for her to lay an egg though? Would it be like human labor?

Chapter 4 part 2 : Date night

At Tarot’s house:

Venn and Dragon sit on the living room couch, the whole day has been boring and it is already noon. Venn cannot stand it any longer, he has to do something active or he is going to go insane. Venn looks across the room to see the silver, Dodgeball-sized Egg sitting on a couple of pillows in the corner of the living room.

Venn sprouts a happy look when he finally gets an idea:

“Dragon!”

Dragon jumps up at Venn’s yelling and nearly falls off of her seat. “What is it Venn?”

“Get up and get dressed; were going to do something that I never got the chance to do with you: We’re going on a Dinner Date.”

Dragon perks up with a smile. “Dinner sounds really nice.” Her smile is then replaced with a concerned expression when she looks over at the Egg in the corner of the room. “But what about our Egg…?”

“Not to worry,” Venn says with a finger pointed into the air “For I have a plan for that too.”

Venn walks over to the Egg and carefully lifts it up from the pillows that kept it from rolling all over the room.

“You head over to a restaurant of your choice and I will meet you there after I get an Egg-Sitter.”

“Okay, see you there.” Dragon smiles and snaps her fingers, disappearing in a cloud of white smoke.
Venn thinks for a moment about any people he can trust to take care of an Egg. He then gets an idea and snaps his fingers, prompting Cerberus to appear in front of him.

“You rang? What can I do for you Venn?” Cerb’s middle head asks.

“Cerb, I need you to watch over our Egg while I take Dragon out on a Date. Do you think you can handle that?”

“Of course, it’s just an Egg right?”

Venn lifts the silver Egg up to Cerb and she takes it from him with a reassuring look on two of her three heads, her last head is still looking at her reflection in the Egg’s shell.

Venn gives Cerb a few final words before disappearing in a cloud of white smoke: “Guard that Egg with your life, Cerb. We will meet you at the gates of Heaven to pick it up later…and keep Pete away from it; I heard that he was up and about today.”

Cerb nods, even though Venn was no longer there, and she snaps her fingers. Cerb appears behind the gates of heaven, where she works as the messenger; meaning it is her responsibility to escort mortal souls to heaven, but today seemed to be a slow day. Cerb holds up the Egg to the sunlight above and lets it shine through the shell so that she can see the developing dragon inside. All three of Cerb’s heads smile at the sight of the coming child and she takes a seat on the ground with her back against the gate column.

An hour goes by and Cerb is anxious to see some kind of action. She speaks under her breath:

“Jeez, something need to happen here…soon”

Immediately after Cerb finishes her whispered sentence, she hears a familiar voice coming from next to her. Cerb snaps all three of her heads
around to see Pete, who still had small blotches of Pink feathers mixed in with blue feathers.

“Hey Cerb, Watch ’ya got there?”

I had to open my big mouths...

Cerb instinctively grips the Egg a bit tighter and stands up so that she stands over Pete with her tall stature, attempting to intimidate him into leaving. When intimidation fails, she holds out the Egg to show Pete, so that he will be satisfied and leave her alone.

“It’s Venn and Dragon’s child.”

Pete’s face shifts into an interested smile when he looks at his reflection in the Egg’s shell.

“Oh yeah, I had heard about this, the news is spreading like wildfire that Dragon hooked up with a Bug.” Pete says with a devious smile. He steps forward and tries to put his hand on the Egg, but Cerb pulls it away before he can even get close. “Hey come on let me see it. I’ll be gentle, I promise.”

“Sorry Pete, but Venn gave me specific instructions to keep you away from the Egg. And you know how I never break my promises…don’t you!?”

Pete reluctantly takes a step back as he senses that Cerb is bringing up the heated topic of their past relationship up again. “Oh come on, the only reason I came out is because I wanted to see my future Niece…or Nephew. Say, did Venn ever mention if it was a boy or girl?”

“Actually, they both want it to be a surprise. Don’t ask me why though…”

“Well can’t we just see for ourselves and keep it a secret afterward?”

“*Sigh* well…I can’t say that I’m not curious about it too…maybe we can see through the shell without taking it to a doctor.”

“Good idea, hold that sucker up to the light and I will get a better look at what’s inside.”

Cerb hold up the Egg and Pete walks around to try and get a better look at it, but it is no better than if he was looking behind a two-way mirror.

“Hmm, maybe if I got closer-*” Pete accidentally trips on Cerb’s foot. “--Whoops!”

Pete tumbles on top of Cerb, pulling her down with him and making her drop the Egg. Both Pete and Cerb look up in horror as they see the metal Egg rolling down the heavy foot-traffic of Heaven’s walkways. Pete and Cerb look at each other and then Cerb’s three heads trade horrified looks. Soon enough, they start chasing after the rolling egg.

“SOMEONE STOP THAT EGG” they both yell to the bystanders, but they have no time to react. By the time they catch a glimpse of the Egg, it is far out of their reach.

Soon enough the chase comes to a downhill path that leads to the large courthouse in the center of the area, Pete spreads his wings once he gets a clear view of the Egg and pounces for it with a powerful beat of his wings. Before Pete can realize it, the Egg was caught in someone’s hand and the same person caught Pete by his Beak, knowing that he would have crushed the Egg if he had landed on it. Pete looks up to see that the Egg and his own beak had been caught by Bahamut, who was just getting out of a trial.

“Pete…? Do my eyes deceive me? Is the notorious Pete actually trying to do a good deed and save a couple of dragons from becoming a batch of scrambled eggs?”

“No…maybe…alright yes, I was concerned for…*"Pete then realizes what Bahamut had just said. “Wait, what did you mean, ‘A couple of Dragons’? There is only one in that Egg.”

"Not from what I see."

Bahamut holds up the egg to the sunlight to reveal that there are now Two separate Dragons floating inside of the Egg. The second dragon must have been clinging to the first and then got knocked loose when Cerb had dropped the Egg.

“Wait…I have two nephews, or Nieces, now?!”

Cerb’s middle head is the only one to respond to Pete’s question: “Looks like it.”

============================================

Meanwhile, outside of a fancy restaurant:

Venn and Dragon in their pet forms are stuffed with the taste of food still in their mouths as they start walking back home. They both laugh and hold hands as they walk

“Oh man, that has got to be the best plate of raw meat that I have ever eaten. Surely worth the wait I had to endure.”

“You said it. It’s nice that the staff here treats pets like people so that we can actually eat good food without having to disguise ourselves as humans.”

“I know, do you think raising a kid here is a good choice. It’s probably going to be another symbolic spirit, so it is important to get them acquainted with the mortal world while they are you--*” Venn is interrupted when Dragon pulls Venn closer to her, both their lips meeting in a kiss and then embracing each other in a hug.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way Venn.”

Both Dragon and Venn jump up in surprise when they both feel Venn’s collar start to vibrate. Venn takes a small cellphone out of his collar and flips the top open to answer it. Venn holds the ear-pice up to his face and the only thing Dragon was able to make out from the other end of the line was:

“Venn, you are never going to believe what just happened” Cerb says with an excited tone in her voice, giving Dragon a sense of relief that it was not bad news

Venn listens to what Cerb has to say on the phone and then closes it immediately after she hangs up.

“…Dragon…You and I are now the parents of Twin Dragons. They found a second dragon clinging to the first inside the Egg and they managed to make it release its grip so that they would separate from each other and develop properly.”

Dragon takes a few moments to sort out her thoughts into rational words for a response to the sudden news:

“Twins…? We have twins?”

“I know…I can’t believe it either.”

(This is the last part that I had prepared to post, so you will have to wait for the rest of the story)

Chapter 4 Part 3 : Freedom and Fury

two months of ‘Egg-related’ drama later:

Venn and Dragon both stand over their egg in the corner of the living room with confused looks on their faces. The polished silver Egg has several blotches of a different metal texture on its shell. The blotches of a Stainless-steel texture are slowly, but surely, covering the entire Egg. The metallic blotches block out the light that would normally allow somebody to look at the dragons inside.

“Where is he?” Dragon asks Venn. “We called him almost five minutes ago.”

“Hon, he was probably in the middle of something when we called him, just be patient. I’m sure that this is something we shouldn’t be concerned with.”

“How can you say that, Venn?” Dragon yells in reply. “What if it’s something serious?!”

“If it was something serious, I’m sure that he would have dropped everything and came over immediately.”

Dragon sits down on the nearby couch with a hand over her face. “I guess you’re right. Maybe I am getting worked up over nothing.”

Just then, the figure of a tall purple dragon with a silver helmet appears behind the couch. “Hello Venn and Dragon, why did you call me with such urgency?” He says with a mysteriously calm demeanor

“Bahamut, that’s for coming on such short notice.” Venn motions to the Egg in the corner of the room “It’s our Egg; we don’t know what’s going on with it, but the shell has been changing since this morning.”

Bahamut slowly walks over to the Egg and picks it up off of the cushions that it was placed on top of. He turns the Egg in his hand in a close inspection, trying to get a glimpse of the dragons inside through the shrinking sections of the two-way mirror surface. He finally catches a glimpse and sees that both dragons are moving and twitching. Bahamut smiles and places the Egg back on top of the pillows.

“This is good. The Egg’s shell is changing into a more brittle substance so that it can hatch.”

Dragon and Venn stand a few feet away, eyes opened wide and mouths agape in astonishment.

“Does that mean it’s time?” Venn asks with an excited look

“Yes, the hatching ceremony will begin in a few hours in the Sahara Desert, like you had planned.” With that sentence, Bahamut takes the Egg in his hand again and vanishes with it in a cloud of white smoke.

Venn and Dragon lock their lips in a celebratory kiss. Venn then pulls back with a sincere smile so that he can speak to Dragon:

“Well Dragon, you know what to do…”

Dragon nods her head and raises her hand, snapping her fingers.

==========================================================

Meanwhile at the Sandwich house:

A mysterious letter is slipped underneath the front door of the house and the doorbell is rung. Peanut descends the stairs to see the Green envelope lying on the welcome mat. He walks over to the letter, picks it up off the ground, and reads the writing on the cover:

“You’re invited, Peanut!”

“Oh boy, I didn’t know that it was someone’s birthday today…”

Peanut opens the flap on the envelope and pulls out an invitation card, he opens the card and reads the details inside:

“Congratulations friends, you have been cordially invited to our Long-awaited ceremony of our offspring coming into this world. Please sign your and any guest’s name below to RSVP:

Sincerely Venn and Dragon”

Peanut is then startled when he feels Grape reading the letter over his shoulder.

“Hey Peanut, you know you’re not supposed to open Dad’s mail.” She says with a raised eyebrow

“I know, the letter was addressed to me. It’s an invitation from Venn and Dragon for a…a baby shower I guess?”

“Well it says that you can take a guest with you. Sign our names on the line; I wanna see what this is all about.”

Peanut grabs a ball-point pen from a nearby table and signs both his and Grape’s name on the RSVP line. The letter then closes itself and flies from Peanut’s hands.

“Hey what’s going on!?” Peanut yells as he watches the letter fly in a circle around him and Grape.

The letter flies all around Peanut in a spherical pattern, like an electron orbiting a nucleus in an atom’s structure. The letter increases in speed until its after-images blur together to form a seamless green sphere around Peanut and Grape.

“Grape what’s happening?”

“With Spirits, you never know…”

The green bubble then flashes and vanishes with Grape and Peanut in a cloud of white smoke. The invitation card then stops flying around and floats down to the floor, disappearing with a poof of smoke.

========================================================

In the middle of the Sahara Desert:

Peanut and Grape appear in the middle of the Desert. They both sit next to each other in a row of chairs that are organized in a pattern similar to the seating chart of Bailey’s and King’s wedding. There were two columns of seats, separated by an open space in between, the column of seats where peanut and Grape were sitting was dedicated to pets and the other column was where several spirits were seated.

Peanut looks around in the seats and sees Tarot, Sabrina, Fox, Kevin, Ralph, Fido, and even Bino… though he looked a little spiteful. Seated in the other column of chairs is: Cerberus, Pete, Kitsune, a fat man enjoying a bag of chips, and a man dressed like a pirate.

Peanuts’ attention is then drawn to a Silver egg sitting on top of a metal block in front of all the chairs. Venn and Dragon stand on either side of the Metal block with a purple dragon standing behind it, holding something to his side, but he cannot make out what it is from where he is sitting.

The purple dragon opens his mouth and everyone ceases their side-conversations to hear what he has to say:

“Friends and family of Venn and Dragon, thank you for taking the time out of your lives to attend this most sacred of ceremonies. Today is that day that this Egg will hatch and we will welcome the two spirits who slumber within, into existence. This entire gathering is dedicated to welcoming these two spirits as the first generation to ever be born from a Heavenly Knight.” Bahamut motions to Venn, who gives him a small and short grin before retuning his attention to the Egg, seeing that the blotches of brittle metal have finally covered the entire shell

“For years, we have called the offspring of Hades to be ‘Demons’ or ‘Monsters’ because of their appearance and emotionless demeanors, but Venn has shown all of us that we were wrong. The Symbolic Spirits are powerful and are capable of defeating great evils, but their power is only matched by their love and sense of loyalty to their hearts' beliefs.” Bahamut then pulls out the object that he was holding to his side; A two-sided broad sword.

“The spirits that slumber inside this hollow shell have been protecting themselves with the ‘Shield of Cathyron’. The two spirits inside, one fire and one wind, must hold great power. I will now bring them into this world.”

“One Fire…one Wind” Bahamut rears back, preparing to bring his sword down.

“One Fighter…one Savior!”

He swings the sword down and draws a gasp from all the pets, but they are quickly calmed when the see that the sword was stopped no more than an inch away from striking the metallic egg. He pauses and then taps the top of the egg with a sharp CLINK.

The Egg suddenly erupts in a fiery explosion, followed by a blast of wind that knocks everyone but Bahamut onto their backs. Everyone looks up in amazement when they see two balls of light float out of the shattered shell. One light was light blue and surrounded by wisps of wind; and the other was glowing orange and surrounded by flames. The spheres then fly up into the night-time desert air; performing a synchronized, high-speed dance across the dark sky; it’s almost as if the audience can hear the music they are dancing to:

(imagine the dance in your mind while you listen: https://youtu.be/0Qsm3RcBNiQ?list=PLDEW ... rS89AvHGi3 )

The balls of light soon stop their dance and come to rest in Bahamut’s hands. The balls of light then grow in size to form the shape of Baby dragons that float in Bahamut’s hands; their eyes are still closed, like they are asleep.

The first dragon Bahamut holds up to the crowd is a girl; she is covered with grey scales and light blue stripes that run from her snout, in between her two yellow horns, across her limbs, and ending at the tip of her tail. The little dragon has small wings on her back that flex to show a decorative cloud pattern.

“Witness the Winds of ‘FREEDOM’…”

Bahamut lowers the grey and blue dragon and presents the other baby dragon:

The second dragon Bahamut held up in his hand was a boy. This dragon was very different from his sister in terms of appearance: His entire body looks like it is made of fire other than the black horns on top of his head; the faint image of his skeleton is visible through his flame body, and the flames that surround him burn brightly and swell outward with each breath he takes.

“…And behold the Flames of ‘FURY’.”

Bahamut lowers the baby dragons and hands them over to Venn and Dragon. Venn takes the Fire dragon and Dragon takes the Wind dragon. Fury is the first one to open his eyes and see his father

The fire dragon stares at his father with a straight face, but Venn can see the curiosity in his eyes.

“Hi Fury, my name is Venn. I’m your father,” Venn points to Dragon and Freedom, drawing fury’s attention to his mother and sister. “That’s Dragon, your mother; and Freedom, your sister.”

Fury’s eyes droop and he nuzzles his head against Venn’s fur with only one word escaping from his tiny mouth before falling back asleep:

“Daddy…”

(Pictures of Fury and Freedom coming soon)

Chapter 4 part 4 : lost in translation

A few months of decent parenting later:

Fury, a baby dragon whose body is made completely of fire, sits on top of a table. Fury sports a blank look on his face while he sits behind a book he had propped up in front of him, his eyes move from left to right slowly as he pays close attention to the words, deeply involved in the story.

Over on the edge of the table, behind Fury, another baby dragon pokes her head up with a conniving look on her face. She narrows her eyes and widens her smile as she catches sight of her brother peacefully enjoying a good book. Fury fails to hear the silent approach of His sister as she tip-toes closer and closer to him. All of a sudden, Freedom jumps up into the air and lands on top of Fury, knocking him flat on his chest.

“Come on Fury, don’t be such a sad-sack, gimmie a smile!” Freedom says as she uses her fingers to pull Fury’s mouth into a smile, the flames that make up his body not burning her.

Fury only groans in response to his sister sneaking up on him…again.

“Free, leave your brother alone.” Venn shouts from the adjacent room.

“Aww.”

Freedom gets up off of her brother’s back and sits down on the table with crossed arms and a pouty expression, but she eventually gives in to the fact that there was nothing fun to do, it was pouring rain outside and the cable was knocked out by the lightning.

Freedoms eyes wander around the room and eventually come to rest on where her brother is sitting behind the pages of his large, Dictionary-sized book. Freedom raises an eyebrow and her body changes into a white wisp of wind that flies over the Book’s cover and her body re-forms behind Fury.

Fury widens his eyes and looks back at his sister for a second before returning to the line of the story he was reading before she appeared behind him.

“Whachya doing?”

Fury points to the book in front of him in response.

Freedom looks over her brother’s shoulder, reading a paragraph of the story and immediately losing interest when she finds it incredibly boring. She gives a concerned look to her brother for a second and she then flies over to the adjacent room where Venn is sitting at kitchen table, reading a book on child-care. Venn notices the white wisp of wind and watches as it settles on the table in front of him, changing into the form of his daughter.

“What’s wrong, Free?”

“Dad I’m bored and Fury is boring! Do have something fun I can do?”

Venn raises an eyebrow and looks to his left in thought. He then leans over to the 1-foot tall dragon with a slightly annoyed expression.

“Free, you need to learn to find things to do on your own. You can’t depend on us to entertain you on a whim.”

“Alright, but…I’m a little worried about Fury…”

“Why, did you make him mad again?” Venn says with a sarcastic tone and a grin.

“No…it’s just that…He hasn’t said anything for days now.”

“I know, but that’s just a part of who he is. Just think of it as a challenge to try and understand him without hearing him talk

“Well…alright, but I’m still bored of hiding in this house all the time. I want to go somewhere where I can test my limits and actually MEET people instead of watching them from a window.”

“Actually, there is a place where you can do that, but it may not be as fun as you want it to be.”

Fury hears the conversation from the other room and appears next to Freedom with a small burst of flames. He looks up at Venn with an interested look in his eyes

Freedom instantly perks up with a gleeful expression on her face “Where-Where!?”

“Its called: ‘SCHOOL’.”

Freedom can almost hear the sound of her reality shattering into pieces like a hammer hitting a pane of glass. She stands there with a shocked expression as Fury looks at her with the slightest bit of concern.

“No way am I going to school! I read all about it on the internet, I know what horrors await me there!”

“No Freedom, you’re not going to a school in the mortal plane, you’re going to Heaven to attend Spirit school like all the rest of the spirits your age.”

“…other spirits…?”

=================================================

The next day:

Venn and dragon appear in heaven, in front of a large building with a large sign on the said that reads:

“Early Spirit’s School”

Dragon watches her children enter the doors of the school with tears in her eyes, the same expression as several other mothers who were standing nearby watching their own children leave their sight beyond the yellow doors.

My little babies are going to school…” Dragon was about to start crying, but she is stopped by the sight of Kitsune nearing the entrance of the school with an ID tag secured to his neck by a thin cord. Dragon flies over to Kitsune before he puts his hand on the door.

“Kitsune…? What are you doing here?”

“Oh hey Dragon, I’m a part-time teacher here.”

“You’re a…Well I guess that makes sense…”

“Yeah, and I just got my student list.” Kitsune summons a yellow piece of paper with a list of names on it. “Ah, I see that your
kids are in my class too…!”

Venn and Dragon trade concerned stares for a few seconds as they watch Kitsune enter the school.

===================================================

A few minutes later:

Fury and Freedom sit next to each other in the front of desks, behind them are several other young spirits that are the same size as them, allowing them to relate to each other in conversations before the teacher arrives, but in the back row of desks, a yellow cat with a careless demeanor stands out from the rest because he is a few inches taller than everyone. The classroom is a seamless room of white with a chalkboard, a teacher’s desk, and a plethora of posters on the walls

Freedom is happily talking about spells and magic with an owl, but Fury just sits quietly in his desk. He feels several eyes look at him with questioning stares, but he cannot turn his head fast enough to catch them in the act. He looks around the white room and reads the motivational posters on the walls, trying to find a way to increase his courage.

Outside of the hallway, Kitsune watches his new class of student’s behavior’s and soon sets his sights on Fury, mistakenly assuming that he was too nervous to talk to anyone. The white fox walks into the classroom and all conversations cease when he closes the white door behind him. He walks over to the empty area in front of all his students and smiles brightly, making all but Fury feel at ease.

“Good morning children, my name is: ‘Mr. Kitsune’. Today we will be starting with introductions from each of you.”

Kitsune then points a finger into the front row of desks, directly at Fury.

“Lets start with ‘Mr. nervous-and-quiet’…”

Fury widens his eyes and his eyes snap to the left and right, desperately hoping that the white fox was pointing to someone else near him. Fury reluctantly lifts his hand and points to himself questioningly.

“Yes you, come on up here and tell us about yourself...”

Fury’s stomach ties itself in a knot, but he finds the courage to walk up to the front of the class with a last minute idea to avoid speaking, He walks up the chalkboard and picks up a piece of chalk to write his words, but he is stopped by Kitsune:

“No no, you need to speak and overcome your nervousness. Come on over here and speak to us.”

Fury’s worst fears have been realized, but his sister heroically comes to his rescue with her quick thinking. Freedom raises her hand and speaks:

“Um Mr. Kitsune, That’s my brother ‘Fury’, he’s not really much of a talker-*”

“-Oh nonsense, Fury should learn to speak for himself otherwise he might never overcome his fear.”

All eyes are now on Fury, if he could, he would have been sweating profusely. Fury gulps down his fear and almost chokes on it as his eyes dart around the room for some kind of escape, but he finds none. Even his sister shrugs at him, signifying that she is out of ideas.

Fury soon comes to accept his fate and opens his mouth to speak. Freedom watches in disbelief, it was as if the whole scene was happening in slow-motion. In a last ditch attempt to avoid embarrassment, she lays her head down on her desk and covers it with a book, she did not have the courage to keep watching.

Fury inhales deeply and finally talks out loud, but he speaks in a language that neither Kitsune, nor any of the students can understand:

“furor est nomen meum , et ego draco ignis”

Everyone but Freedom looks at Fury with a very confused expression on their faces. Fury looks around with a sad and distressed look until he finally looks up to Kitsune for some kind of answer to what he had said.

“Oh…um…I’m not sure what that means…” Kitsune hesitantly says to Fury.

Everyone is then interrupted by the sound of cackling laughter coming from the Yellow cat that sits in the back corner desk.

“Hah ha ha ha! He can’t even speak English yet! What a dummy!”

Freedom looks up from her book and sees Fury is on the verge of tears. She turns around to the yellow cat and opens her mouth to speak so that she can save whatever’s left of Fury’s self-esteem.

“No, Fury speaks in another language than you do. He said: ‘My name is Fury, and I am a Fire Dragon’.”

The yellow cat still snickers and speaks once his laughter had died down. “Jeez, maybe you should teach him to speak English like the rest of us ‘NORMAL’ people.”

Fury covers his face in an attempt to hide the tears the yellow cat had summoned with his hurtful words, but it was no use, his emotionless demeanor was gone and could not be regained. Fury turns towards the classroom door and runs towards it before anyone could tell that he was crying. he runs right into the white door and teleports himself to the other side in a small burst of flames. He runs down the hall and disappears around the corner, trailing a path of boiling tears that quickly evaporate, leaving no trace of where he went.

The yellow cat laughs at the sight of Fury’s retreat. He looks back at the students in the classroom and sees that they are all looking at him with disapproving stares. He then looks back to the teacher to discover that he has moved next to his desk. Kitsune lowers his head down over the yellow cat and says three words that make him immediately regret his actions:

“Principles office…now!”

Chapter 4 part 5 : lost in translation (Pt.2)

Freedom runs down the empty, white hallways of the school in search of where her brother had run off to in his emotional outburst. She walks alongside Kitsune that holds the keys to the lockers and doors in the school, allowing for a thorough search of the entire building. Eventually, they both come across an empty equipment locker that had an orange light coming from inside it.

"Mr. Kitsune, can I please go talk to my brother? I’m sure that I can help him get past this, I just need a few minutes.”

“Of course Freedom, go talk to him for as long as you need.”

Freedom walks over to the locker and knocks on the metal door that separated her from her brother.

“Fury, come on out…The Cat’s gone now and he won’t bother you again.”

Fury responds with a shaky voice that suggests he was crying on the other side of the door: “<You don’t understand! It’s not just that Cat. After what I did, they all probably think I’m weird…>"

“Well I’m sure they would understand why you did what you did when that cat insulted you like that. I would have done the same thing you did if I was in your shoes.”

“<Yeah but I’m not like you, it's so hard to make friends when they don’t even know what you’re saying!>”

“I know, but Mr. Kitsune has appointed me as your translator for class, I would have no problem sticking with you when you need to talk with your friends.”

“<Well that may be so, but you can’t be around all the time. What happens to me if you’re not around by some chance?”>

“Well…I guess… *sigh* okay you got a point, but at least we’re making good progress.”

“<Yeah I guess. I just don’t want to be left out because of who I am…>”

Freedom looks at Kitsune, who has no idea what Fury was saying. He shrugs to show that he was not following along with the conversation at all.

“Come on, at least let me in so that we can talk face-to-face”

A few moments of silence follow her request but the door is soon opened and she steps inside the large cabinet-sized locker. She looks around and sees Fury sitting in the corner with his head between his knees and tears still running down his cheeks.

“Fury, you’re better than this. Why did you let one person get the best of you?”

“<Because what he said really hurt…he made me feel like a freak in front of everyone. I can’t go back after that.>”

“Yes you can. They all support you; I know that for a fact. They are all waiting in the room for you right now to make sure that you are alright.”

“<*Sniff* Really? They’re all waiting for me…?>”

“That’s right, now dry your face and let’s get out of this metal box”

Fury gives his sister a small grin and wipes the boiling tears from his face. “<Thanks Freedom, I needed that.>"

“I know you did. Now come on, I want to see what Mr. Kitsune has planned for us on our first day.”

Fury nods his head, they both push the metal door of the locker open and they both walk over to Kitsune with smiles on their faces. Fury and Freedom enter the classroom and everyone welcomes Fury back. He replies to their reassuring words with the help of his sister translating his words:

“<Everyone, my name is Fury, I am a fire dragon whose body Is made completely out of a special type of fire that only burns when I want it to. I’m sure that you all have noticed that I am speaking in Latin; don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. My Dad says that I’m going to grow up to be great warrior. I hope you all don’t think I’m weird because I am literally ‘Fire’ in the form of a dragon. I still hope that we can all be friends.>”

Once Fury had finished, there was a long pause, but it was soon ended with the sound of reassuring cheers. Even Kitsune clapped for the short speech, but he soon motions to freedom, signaling that it was her turn. Fury nods his head to his sister and sits back in his seat

“Freedom, since you are up here already, how about you go next?”

“Okay then… My name is Freedom, I am a wind dragon. Similar to my brother, my body is made completely out of air. My body may look and feel like I am a dragon, but I am the living embodiment of ‘Wind’. I also have a small amount of Psychic talents that allow me to understand my brother when he speaks. I can’t read minds or anything like that…Yet, but I’m getting better each day.”

She pauses and everyone claps for her the same way they did for Fury. Freedom looks around at her cheering audience to see that even her brother was clapping for her. She walks back to her seat and is replaced by another spirit that Kitsune had called up, but she ignores the speech so that she can talk to her brother:

“See Fury, I told you they would come to accept you."

“<I guess you were right…thanks for not giving up on me back there. I don’t know how I could make it up to you.>”

Freedom just rolls her eyes with a smile. “Fury, helping you is what being your sister is all about, besides, I couldn’t just sit by and watch.”

============================================

Later:

Kitsune brings everyone in his class out to a large area outside, a playground of sorts.

“Okay everyone, recess has begun. You have thirty minutes to frolic and play and then we will go back to class.”

All of the student run excitedly towards the open area and start playing around with some of the sports equipment scattered throughout the field. All except Fury and Freedom…

Kitsune looks down at the two dragons with a raised eyebrow

“What’s wrong, guys? I would have thought you two of all people would enjoy recess the most.”

“Its just that… we’ve never played with others before…”

Kitsune chuckles lightly and turns around to head back inside. “Just go meet some people and ask if you can play with them. It’s that simple.” Kitsune walks off into the building and leaves Fury and Freedom alone.

The two dragons walk out into the field when their attentions are drawn to a whistle coming from a nearby wall. Leaning on a nearby wall is a group of spirits that are taller than everyone else in the field, but they don’t look friendly at all. Among the group is a black Raven, the Yellow cat that had insulted Fury before, and their leader: a black wolf-pup.

=============================================

Later, back at tarot’s house:

Venn hears the wall-mounted phone in the kitchen ring for the second time and he drops what he was doing that prevented him from answering the first time. Venn walks over to the phone and places the phone between his shoulder and his ear. In his hands are a toilet brush and a bottle of cleaner that prevents him from handling the phone.

“Tarot’s house, Venn speaking.”…

"Kitsune…this better be good because I was in the middle of someth-*”

“THEY DID WHAT?!”

Chapter 4 part 6 : Monkey in the middle

At tarot’s house:

Fury and Freedom sit down next to each other on the couch with sad looks directed at the cushions they are sitting on. They are trying to avoid eye-contact with Venn as he stares at them with a very angry look.

“I cant believe you two got into a fight on your first day of School!”

Freedom tries to reply: “But dad, it wasn’t--” she is then interrupted by a quick glare from her Father.

“I don’t care who’s fault it is, I just want you to tell me what happened…”

Fury and Freedom look at each other and Fury explains the events that unfolded a few hours ago:

=================================================

Previously at the playground area:

The yellow cat that had insulted Fury before stands next to a group of notorious Trouble-makers among the school. Among the group are a Black raven and the leader of the group: a black Wolf-pup with an evil smile on his face. The cat points Fury out to the wolf, causing his evil smile to grow. He then leads the group over to where the two dragons are helplessly standing.

The wolf stands a full foot over the two dragons as he speaks in a slightly distorted voice:

“So, you’re the dragon that got my friend here-” he motions to the yellow cat, who is also smiling evilly. “-In some big trouble today…”

Fury stutters for a second, but he finally manages to get his words out with his sister translating for him:

“<I-I-I don’t want any trouble.>”

“Too late, you should have thought of that before you ratted out my friend to the teacher, now its time for pay-back!” The group laughs sinisterly and the two dragons attempt to make a run for the building, but their attempt is thwarted by the Raven.

A glass jar falls over Freedom and the Raven turns it over, sealing the lid and imprisoning the Wind Dragon inside. She bangs on the glass and calls out to her brother as he watches in a trance of disbelief. The Raven picks the jar up and tosses it over to the Wolf, who laughs at the little dragon inside as she tries to escape from her Air-tight prison.

“Fury Help, Get me out of here!” She calls to her brother, who snaps out of his fear-induced trance and flies over to the jar, intending to smash it to pieces, but the wolf moves it before he can strike it.

“Ha ha, too slow!”

Fury almost cries as he watches the group of spirits play a sick game of “Keep-Away” with him. They keep throwing the jar to another member of the group whenever Fury gets close to it. Fury can see Freedom tumbling around inside as it flies through the air around him, just out of his reach.

“<Give her back! Please!>” he pleads with the group. “<Let her go!>”

“Huh, what’s that?” The wolf taunts. “I can’t understand you!”

“<Please stop! You’re going to hurt her!>”

“Be quiet, I have nothing to say to a Demon. You two don’t belong in heaven in the first place!”

The group ignores Fury’s pleads and continues throwing the jar amongst themselves with Fury in the middle of them, it was as if they had done this may times before…Fury couldn’t stand the thought of all the other students that suffered the same way.

For a split second, Fury can see his sister pass over his head as she tries to plead for help through the glass that muffles her voice. The jar lands in the hands of the Wolf again and he keeps it when he sees that Fury is no longer playing along with their sick game. A tear drops from Fury’s eye and he prepares to fly into the jar, but he soon finds himself flattened against the pavement with the Raven standing on his back, keeping him pinned against the ground:

“Ha ha ha, you guys are weak!” He holds the jar up to his face to see Freedom still trying to get out. “I should just throw you over the fence, or maybe into an ocean where no one will ever find you...”

Fury hears these words and his sad expression turns to one of anger.

“You know what, you’re not worth my time, I’m just gonna throw you--” Fury flies up to the Wolf-pup from behind and bites down on his ear, producing a sizzling sound as his teeth burn through the Wolf’s fur and singe the skin beneath.

“OOOOOOOW, Get him off, get him off!” the Wolf screams and whines as he desperately tries to pry Fury off his ear.

Fury keeps his jaw clamped on the Wolf’s ear as the fire that makes up his body burns with the heat of a thousand Sun’s. He then sees the Wolf drop the jar and he releases his jaws, leaving a scar burned into the Wolf’s ear. Fury can only watch as the jar hits the ground and shatters into a million pieces, his sister in the center of it all.

Freedom lands on her back and Fury immediately rushes to her side. She lifts her head up and sees Her brother kneeling next to her with a concerned look in his eyes and wet tears coating his cheeks

“I’m alright Fury…I think...”

Fury widens his eyes and grabs Freedom’s wrist when he sees a large cut on her arm from the glass. The cut does not bleed at all; it looks like her arm had a notch cut into it, and it hurts. Freedom looks at her arm and winces when she touches the cut. She then looks over to her brother to see that he was slowly walking over towards the group of mischievous spirits that dared to harm her.

Fury flies up to the Wolf and backs him against a wall with a very hostile expression on his face and says a few choice words that he was lucky to not understand:

“<If you ever hurt her again, I will burn you Asunder!>”

Just then, Kitsune came out from the doors to call everyone in from recess, but is appaled when he sees Fury threatening the wolf-pup.

“What’s going on here!?”

=========================================

Back in the present time:

“<--and that’s what happened…>”

Venn leans his head back and holds a hand over his eyes as he thinks about the described events. Just then, Dragon walks in, she had been listening from the adjacent room

“Alright, I’ve heard enough. Dragon, I think its time we started the Side-training.”

“Venn, are you sure about--”

“Yes I’m sure, this wouldn’t have happened if they knew how to use their powers with some restraint.”

“But I still think it’s too soon to start…” Dragon says with concerned tone

Fury and Freedom look at each other in confusion and they both speak up at the same time:

“What are you guys talking about?”
“<What are you guys talking about?>”

Venn and Dragon both turn their attention to their children with slightly concerned expressions. Venn kneels down to their level and speaks to them:

“You’re both going to learn how to use your powers with your Grandfather…‘Hades’ after each school-day.”

“Hades is our Grandfather? But that means…”

“<…That Wolf was right…We ARE Demons...>”

Venn immediately picks up the two dragons and holds them out in front of him. “Now listen here: You two are NOT demons and you never will be. Sure, you might be different from everyone else, but that’s what makes you guys special.”

“But Dad, that Wolf said that we don’t belong in Heaven. Is that true?”

“Of course it’s not! Just look at me; I served as a heavenly knight for centuries and defeated hundreds of evil spirits under Bahamut’s name. We all have a purpose in this universe, you two just haven’t found yours yet…”

“<But they said-->”

“Guys, quit thinking about what those trouble-makers said about you. None of those things they said about you were true. You are benevolent Spirits whose power is only matched by your love and loyalty; you just need special training on how to use this power, like I did.”

“‘Like you did’?”

That’s right, my father, your grandfather, taught me almost everything that I know about my power. But that’s not all, he also taught me to control my emotions and keep them from influencing my actions. He can do the same for you two if you really commit.”

Fury and Freedom look at each other again, seeing no downside in this special training their father was describing.

“The only thing is…he can be a bit…Creepy…”

their smiles quickly turn to confused frowns

"What?"
"<What?>"

Chapter 4 part 7 : The metal man

After a day at school:

Venn, Dragon, Fury, and Freedom all stand around a magic circle that they carved into the dirt in Tarot’s backyard. The two young dragons look very nervous as they sit down with their parents around the circle, which was now glowing red with heat.

“So how do we do this?” Freedom asks Dragon

“All you two need to do is close your eyes for three seconds and you will be transported to the shadowlands where you will meet up with your grandfather and begin your training with him.

“<But what does he look like? How do we know if it’s him?>”

Venn answers with a pained expression. “Believe me, you’ll know him when you see him…”

Fury and Freedom nod their heads, look at each other briefly, and then shut their eyes for three seconds. When they open their eyes, they find themselves in the middle of an endless road in the midst of a featureless plain of black sand that extends endlessly in all directions. They both look around from the black asphalt below to the grey sky above, not seeing anyone at all.

“Jeez this place gives me the creeps…”

Fury shrugs his shoulders in response

“…where is he? I thought Mom and Dad said that he would meet us as soon as we arrived?”

A hollow and scratchy voice emanates from behind the two dragons, making them jump up into the air.

“Hello kiddies!”

“AAAAAAH”
“<AAAAAAAH>”

They both turn around to see the foot of a Six-foot tall man clad in a suit of armor that covers his entire body, leaving no exposed points at all. Their eyes venture upward upon their inspection of the tall man until their gazes come upon a sinister smile extending from one side of his face-mask to the other. The man opens the metal mouth when he speaks again, drawing another frightened yelp from the two dragons:

“My name is Hades.”

The two dragons hug each other in a cowardly embrace as they clearly express their boundless fear of their grandfather’s appearance. Hades leans down and his red eyes meet his grandchildren’s frightened stares.

“Don’t worry I won’t hurt either of you…”

Fury and Freedom do not let their guard down, but they do stop hugging each other in an attempt to show that they were not afraid.

“So…what are your names?”

Freedom speaks up first: “My name is ‘Freedom’.” She then presents her brother, who was still in a state of shock. “And this is my brother ‘Fury’.”

Hades widens his eyes and kneels down so that he can get a better look at his two grandchildren. He holds out both of his Armor-clad hands in front of them so that they can climb into them. “It’s time to start you’re training little ones, climb on and we can get started”

Fury and Freedom look at each other in confusion, but they soon comply with Hades, climbing into his metal hands. Hades then stands up and walks along the endless road with the two dragons sitting in his hands. He looks at the two dragons for a few moments and then converses with them until they reach their intended destination:

“So…Fire and Wind spirits huh?”

Freedom speaks up in a nervous reply: “Yeah…I’m the Winds of Freedom,” She motions to her brother in Hades’ left hand “And my brother is the Flames of Fury.”

“That’s nice, but why does your brother remain silent?”

“Umm…” a bead of sweat forms on the side of Freedom’s head, but she is relieved when Hades interrupts her

“Its fine if you don’t want to talk about it, I was just curious. So if your brother does not speak, how do you two communicate?”

“Oh that’s easy, I have a psychic connection with him that allows me to hear his thoughts when he wants to speak, but only the ones he wants to share willingly.”

Fury grins at his sister, thanking her for the save. She nods back and looks ahead at where Hades is walking towards, but she only sees the road continuing endlessly.

“Um…Grandpa Hades, I thought you were supposed to be constantly leading a group of spirits down this road? Where are all the spirits?”

"Oh I had someone cover for me until I returned"

==================================================

Elsewhere in the shadowlands:

Tony rides down the endless road on a scooter meant for disabled people while enjoying a couple boxes of assorted cookies. He tosses the trash he accumulates into the sand on the side of the road and it is swallowed up by the sand without even a trace of its existence.

The spirits behind Tony walk slowly along with confused looks on their faces. One of the spirits then runs up next to Tony and speaks with him with a slightly nervous tone:

“Um…where’s Hades? I thought he was supposed to be leading us today?”

Tony replies with his mouth full of food, crumbs fall onto his lab coat as his mouth moves. “Oh, dad had to take some time off to train his new Grandchildren on how to use their powers.”

“Wait you’re Hades’ son?”

“Well, not exactly. My dad made me from a mortal insect and turned me into an immortal creature. So, in a way…he gave ‘Birth’ to me.”

The spirit raises an eyebrow and then moves his gaze down towards the box of assorted cookies that was placed in the Scooter’s basket. He thinks to himself:

“Hmm. Its been quite a while since I felt the sensation of chocolate…I wonder if he would mind…?”

The spirit speaks up: “Hey sir, you mind sharing your sweets with the rest of us?”

“No.” Tony replies with a cold tone.

“Aw come on, please?”

‘Absolutely not, I received specific instructions not to feed you anything from the mortal plane!”

“Well than maybe you shouldn’t be flaunting it in our faces!”

Tony narrows his eyes in an angry look. He holds the box in front of the spirits face in a taunting manner. “You mean like this?!”

The spirit suddenly grabs onto the box and tries to pry it from the fat man’s iron grip.

“GIVE UP THE GOODS, CHUBBY!”

=========================================

Back on the other side of the shadowlands:

Fury and Freedom have been riding in Hades’ arms for so long that they had fallen asleep from their long day at school, but they are soon awoken by an abrupt feeling of stopping. Both of the dragons nearly fall out of Hades’s hands, but he ensures that does not happen by pulling them back to their seated positions. They both look up to see a tall black door in front of them. The door has a golden knocker in the shape of a gargoyles face and below that face was a gold-clad keyhole in the center of the door.

Hades puts Freedom and Fury down on the pavement below as he pulls a ring of old-style keys out from a compartment hidden in his waist. “Give me a minute to unlock the door; after that, the training will begin.”

Fury leans over to his sister and whispers to her. “<What do you think is on the other side of that door?>”

Freedom raises an eyebrow in confusion towards her brother. “What did you say?”

Fury also raises an eyebrow and repeats himself; talking at normal volume this time to ensure that his sister can hear him:

“<I said; ‘What do you think is on the other side of that door?’>”

“Fury…I…I can’t understand what you’re saying!”

To be continued...

Chapter 4 part 8 : No Rest for the Weary

Deep in the shadowlands:

Fury can hardly believe what he had just heard his sister say. He desperately keeps talking to her in an attempt to see if she could understand anything he was saying:

“<What do you mean you cant understand me? Why is this happening? Is it because of this place we’re in? what if--*>”

“--Fury, please! I can’t understand you!”

Both dragons are then interrupted from their dilemma by a shadow cast over them from their Grandfather. “Something wrong you two?”

Fury speaks up in a frantic panic: “<Grandpa its terrible! My sister can’t understand me!-*>”

Fury immediately puts his hands over his mouth when he realizes that he forgot he was trying to hide his language from his Grandfather, but he then replies like he understood:

“Easy there Fury, your Sister’s psychic link won’t work while you’re in the Shadowlands.”

Fury stands there dumbfounded for a few seconds. “<Wait…you can understand me?>”

“Of course I can understand you. Your Father told me about your…speech impediment, so I devoted my spare time to learning the Latin language for you.”

“<That’s great, but how are me and my Sister supposed to work together if she can’t understand me?>”

“Oh don’t worry about that for now. I wanted to train you separately first.”

“Separately?”

“That’s right Freedom, now if you could just step through the door, we can get started.”

Both dragons comply and step through the black door to a white room that seemed to extend forever in all directions. Inside the room were an endless amount of screens that display countless conflicts and fights that have happened in the universe.

“Grandpa what is this place?”

“This is the ‘Hall of Hostility’. Whenever someone starts a fight or great conflict in the universe, it goes here to be archived for future reference.”

“<Wait…so this place is filled with memories of hostilities…why?>”

“Well, all that evil has to go SOMEWHERE.”

“So why are we here?”

Hades puts his hand out to the screens and summons a choice few in front of him, the screens line up and then shrink down to the size of papers. Hades holds the hostile memories in his hands like a stack of cards and flips through them until he finds the one he was looking for.

“Ah, here it is!” Hades throws the other memories back into the void where they assume their previous sizes and locations among the other screens.

Hades kneels down and shows the screen he picked out to Fury and Freedom. The screen then surrounds them both and they are faced with the memory of the fight they were in yesterday with the group of spirits at school. A voice echoes in both of their minds as they realize they are reliving the events of the fight all over again.

“First lesson is for Freedom; use your power to escape from the fight.”

Freedom nods her head and looks up to see the glass jar descending towards her again. She transforms her body into a wisp of wind and quickly dodges the jar and the Raven. Freedom reforms her body in the air and she suddenly fades from the scene. Fury stands there, wondering about where his sister went, but he soon returns his attention to the wolf’s paw bearing down on him, ready to squash him.

“Now it’s your turn, Fury; escape from the situation without hurting anyone.”

Fury nods his head and his body teleports from underneath the wolf’s paw to the other end of the playground with a small burst of flames, safely out of the way. Fury then feels himself being pulled out and his body fades from the scene like static on a television.

The next thing Fury can see is his sister sitting right next to him on the white, suspended path in the midst of all the hostile memories. He looks up and sees Hades toss the paper-sized memory back into the void where it returns to its original size and place among the other screens.

“What just happened?”

“You both are farther along than I first thought. You two already know how to assume your elemental forms and use your powers passively. I guess all that’s left for me to teach you is how to use your abilities Actively and with restraint so you don’t blow anything up.”

“<What does that mean?>”

“You need to learn how to use magic actively…like this.” Hades snaps his fingers and a playing card appears in his hands. “See? and nothing up my sleeve…” Hades snaps again and the card disappears.

“Learning how to properly use active magic is very important for spirits as powerful as you two. You both have the potential to end the world with one tantrum.”

“Wait…are you serious?”

“<Are we really that powerful?>”

“If I’m lying, I’m dying. And I’m immortal, so I’m certainly not dying.”

=====================================================

Meanwhile, in Heaven:

Venn and dragon sit in the Principles office behind a white desk that had several gold decorations and knick-knacks on it. On the other side of the desk was an old turtle that had a white beard and a pair of glasses on the bridge of his nose. He finally opens his mouth after a long stare-down and speaks in a soft voice that had the slightest hint of concern in it:

“So Mr. and Mrs.…-*”

“’Venn and Dragon’ is fine…Sir.”

“Venn and Dragon…I’m sure that you are aware of your children’s recent…outburst, where they had injured one of our students.”

Dragon answers: “Yes sir, I can assure you that it will not happen again.”

“Be that as it may, you children cannot do something like this again or else I will have no choice but to expel fthem.”

“Now wait a minute…I just told you what had happened and you are blaming our children for the fight while you let those other three trouble-makers off with a slap on the wrist?”

“Well Dragon, I’m sure that you know that all three of those students claim that your children are the ones that started the fight.”

Venn then speaks up in the conversation: “And you believed them?!”

“I have taken note of both sides of the story and I have concluded that your children and their volatile attitudes are to blame…not that I expect anything less from demons…”

Venn’s expression changes from blank and cold to offended and hostile almost immediately after he heard those words from the turtle.

“You sir have officially offended me. My children are not demons and neither am I. I suggest you treat them both with the same kind of respect and honesty you give to the rest of your students…or I will show you what a real demon looks like…”

“Mr. Venn, Are you threatening me?”

“Absolutely not, but I do suggest that you drop the slurs and stereotypes from this school before I do it myself.”

A few moments of dead silence follow while the turtle thinks about his current situation.

“Alright…I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Your children must behave like star students for the next three days. That means; no fights, interruptions, or anything of the sort. If they can do that for the next three days, I will be satisfied and loosen their reins.”

“Well than-*”

“However…! If they fail, they will both be expelled.”

Venn and Dragon both stand up from their seats and nod their heads at the turtle. Venn then speaks up before turning towards the door:

“Thank you for your time Sir…I know that my children will impress you.”

With that, Venn and Dragon disappear in a cloud of white smoke.

=================================================

Back at Tarot’s house:

Venn and Dragon appear in the living room to the sight of Fury and Freedom laying down on the couch, both of them exhausted from lack of Mana.

“Hey guys, how was your training?” Dragon asks with a forced smile

“Exhausting!”
“<Exhausting!>”

Venn and Dragon cannot help but feel sorry for the two dragons who had no energy left to stay fully awake, yet they both cannot deny that their kids look cute when they aren’t causing trouble.

“Grandpa taught us a lot about how to use our powers, but he worked us over good…I feel completely drained.”

“<You said it…I got nothing left.>”

“Well, I got news for the both of you.”

“What is it?”

“You two have to be on your best behaviors for the next three days or else you could be kicked out of school. The people in charge of that school were not the nicest of people towards you…but they gave us a chance to change their minds.”

Fury and Freedom look at each other for a second and then plop their heads down on the soft cushion beneath them. They both curl themselves up into balls and fall soundly asleep.

Venn smiles and Dragon snickers at the sight of their children passing out from exhaustion

Venn and Dragon sit on either side of the two sleeping dragons and turn on the TV to watch the nightly news. They whisper amongst themselves, trying not to wake their kid's up:

“Wow, I’m surprised they weren’t asleep when we got here…”

“Yeah, they look cute like that…”

Venn and Dragon then lean over and kiss each other before returning their attention to the man speaking on TV

Everything seems to be working! The kiddos are learning and the parents dumped them on the grandparent so they could go away on a vacation for a bit.
