HPU - Cenozoic Bay OOC

Welcome to Cenozoic Bay
Halfway between Midway Atoll and Adok Alaska are Cenozoic Bay. A small Volcanic Archipelago, the Isles are unclaimed and were never touched by humans until the 1970s when small military action took place between the USSR and USA on the Isles soil. The Isles at the time were only called Borba, a Russian word for fighting, as a shorthand for the conflict in the area. The Islands were purchased in 1980 by a private research company, just two years after military action on the island ceased. Over the last three decades the island has changed hands, at least officially, between 5 different shell companies.

40°41'15.0"N 177°09'09.7"W
First considered to be a possibility for weapons research, the original company that owned the island was Biogen, which 'sold' the island to their subsidiary Germtec in 84. By 87, it passed back up the chain to another subsidiary, Genlabs, which was more favored at the time. In 95 the island changed hands again, now supposedly a simple remote research facility but mostly known as a place not covered by government laws concerning research, to a company known as Homosearch which had bilaterally merged with the company. Finally, in the year Y2K the island was sold to a supposedly new company that was formed mostly out of researchers that had once worked on the island, from several of the supposedly separate former companies. This company was known as Lazarus Applied Genetics Research, or LazSearch.

Lazarus Estate Group
Two years ago, the Lazarus Estate Group got ahold of the Islands and officially renamed them to the Lazarus Islands. Cenozoic Bay is the main entrance of the islands, located on the south of the islands. The corresponding neighborhood/resort is situated between three rivers within the nicest part of the bay. The Lazarus islands include several other settlements, those on the mainland easily accessible by monorail and those on the other islands accessible by boat. The Isles are considered perfect for their current mission statement due to their varied environments, going from desert areas to tropical arias, from mountains to tundra, all in one small archipelago.

The Mission
The intention of Lazarus Applied Genetics Research quickly becomes obvious once one arrives, it is to revive the dead. The Isles are a testing ground for Lazsearch's proprietary technology, partially aided by CRISPR technology, which is used to re-build DNA using intentional mutation, genetic regression, and active samples of the least degraded possibility. While it is impossible to find fully preserved proteins from anywhere beyond a Million years, their proprietary software uses the data from small fragments, structural analysis of any remains, and living descendants dna to create the revived creature.

Locations
There are many communities in the islands, most of which have an intention.

Cenozoic Bay Town: Located between two river deltas, Cenozoic Baytown is the most structured of communities in the islands. Separated into neighborhoods and the central business area, Cenozoic Bay is almost entirely like any other city in the world. It seems to be a resort town, if it weren’t for the extinct critters wandering around.

San Rafael Springs: The springs is the second most populated community in the islands, located to the far east in the largest desert. Named after the San Rafeael Swell, one of many important Bone Beds in Utah, the Springs are modeled after midwestern and western towns. Along with housing all most critters used to the desert, the Springs also include an actual natural hot spring and a casino.

Bethany: Bethany is the sight of the corporate headquarters of Lazarus Applied Genetics Research. Located in the southern peninsula Bethany is not a location for Research. Although the occasional experiment ends up in the area, and there is a small local community for the corporate higher ups of the company, Bethany is mainly the location of the Headquarters and nothing else.

Paleozoic Park: Named park almost exclusively for the alliteration, Paleozoic Park is on the vary west side of the mainland. Right across the water from Mesozoic Park both are colloquially known as just "The Parks". Paleozoic park is usually ignored by new-commers in favor of the prehistoric might of the dinosaurs. But, due to the incredible variability of life during the Paleozoic Era, it is the most scientifically advanced of all the Communities

Mesozoic Park: Mesozoic, the name of the age of dinosaurs, was the age of the world’s largest land-bound mega-fauna. Due to the massiveness of the creatures of the Mesozoic, the entire western island was dedicated to a community/conservationist park/safari for dinosaurs. All houses are built incredibly large and sparse, and are located on the eastern tip of the island. The rest of the island is wild-land for experiments who do not wish to be tamed to roam. (Megafauna not used to cold weather should be located here.)

Pleistocene Town: Located on the south North Island it's the farthest north community, as well as the farthest from Cenozoic Bay. Named after the last era of repeated Glaciation, the intention of Pleistocene Town is to replicate conditions for Ice Age and other cold weather creatures. (This area is for cold weather creatures. Mamoths in particular, as well as other Ice Age creatures.)

(Reserved for OOC Information and Rules)

OOC Information
This game will take place with the entirety of the islands as the "neighborhood". It will be subdivided into several locations, starting with a few simple neighborhoods based on intention and community. Other locations, including sub-locations, will show up through the course of play. Characters who are not Lazarus must live in Holocene Hills, one of the two main sub-sections of Cenozoic Bay Town. Lazarus characters will mostly be in the Paleogene Gardens area of Cenozoic Bay Town.

Rules & Extra Information

- The 'neighborhood' is the entirity of the Lazerus Islands. Most charecters will live in Cenezoic Bay Town, but may live in other locations due to charecter restictions (Being too large, or not adapted to warm weather.)
- All characters are default a part of the Cenozoic Bay Town.
- All First Charecters must be from Cenozoic Bay Town.
- You can have only two main characters, but those characters can be changed over time with previous main characters becoming background characters or NPCs.
- Characters that aren’t a "Lazarus", those who aren’t an extinct species, may only be in Cenozoic Bay Town, San Rafael Springs, or Bethany.
- Very few characters will ever be from Bethany.
- Characters that are not Mammals from the Cenozoic Era will be less likely to be accepted and will not have acomidations in Cenozoic Bay Town.

In any case, I could make NPCs. Would that make people want to make charecters? I know it's not completely developed just yet but I figure I can make it be developed over time. ^^

Intriguing. I'm not a gamer but like the concept. And, I figure, if Madison Avenue can mangle spellings, well, a couple here on the forum won't hurt.

I'm working on a character, but I just need time to work on the sheet.

I told you I'd pop up here. Serious settings aho!
Character Sheet wrote:Name: Minerva

Era: Mesozoic (Early Cretaceous)
Species: Utahraptor (Utahraptor Ostrommaysi)
Community: Cenozoic Bay Town

Age: 5
Height: 0.9 meters (3' 0")
Gender: Female

Speech Color: #60D4D4
Theme Song: "Forever" by Mystery Skulls

Description:
Image
(2004 rendition of Utahraptors, by Emily Willoughby)
With a light grey patterning, sharp yellow eyes, and dark blackish grey skin. Her "collar" is a lot more akin to a tracking bracelet, being a hollow stainless steel case to allow a GPS tracker, watch that beeps on the hour, and colored (purple, yellow, or blue) LEDs be put inside to make her easier to find at night. It clasps at the front, and requires a key to take off. She has three of them, so they can be swapped out every few days to allow for charging and an extra in case one is misplaced.

Personality: Minerva is very friendly, a bit cuddly, and very excitable. This comes out as playfulness, mostly, but with her size it can be a bit of a problem. She may be well intending and good at keeping her feet away, but many find it horrifying to have a few hundred pounds of predator charging at them. She also tends to feel really bad when she accidentally hurts anyone.

She loves hearing stories from the "outside world", particularly in the format of movies, audiobooks, or spoken word, since it's difficult to manage most electronics with claws like hers. Music is very exciting to her as well, as she has never seen most instruments.

All else said, while she might prefer to think of herself as a friend of the community, she isn't shy about throwing her being a priceless experiment of a company with enough resources to sue someone into bankruptcy over damages at particularly rough guests.

Background: An experiment started in 2006 as a self-imposed challenge to not only bring back a dinosaur from only fragments, but to take a carnivorous one and make it highly sociable within ten years, while only making two samples every other year. Minerva is a first to be considered a "success" in this line, even if parially attributed the preexisting work in making more social dinosaurs.

This was, of course, still difficult. While several Utahraptors were successfully brought back, near all of them still retained their loyalties to the basic needs above all else. Food, water, rest. The first big difference was that Minerva would play with some of the handlers from a very young age, or respond to their stress and anger. Even the first time they introduced her to live meals to develop hunting skills for if she was untamable, she was far more concerned with playing games with it than eating.

Notes: She keeps a collection of postcards.

Lol I know this is a bit late but, man, this looks fine to me. Do recall that as a dinosaur she’ll be fairly feral, like horses.

Which is why I specifically noted how difficult electronics are. Like I said, serious settings are my kind of thing.

Coolio. Well I’m not SUPER focused on this right now, but if enough people are around I will try to start the rp. So all there is to do is wait for others to make charecters and things.

Unfortunately, I don't think it'll stick. I'm still the only person who's put forward a character sheet, and 22xander hasn't been on with any regularity.

I mean, it'd been a year since anyone had posted before you gave this a bump.

Tbh, it probably should be.

Does anyone have any interest in taking this on and getting it started, or should it be put to bed?

It's had the time to grab interest, and it's fleshed out enough that it could have been opened as it is had it only had the players. If it gets some additional interest I'll pick it up, but it probably should be locked.

well, it's been a full year and a half, it's a shame, this was quite a unique idea for an RP, but, since I'm now back from the dead, I suppose I should start putting things in order again.
If anyone would like to one day try reviving this, feel free to give it ago, for now this RP will get its rest
