I guess there's not much left to say...
With time, my availibility for this awesome forum basically shrunk to nothing. I deluded myself into thinking I could post at least once a week, but...the creative drive is kaput, rusted up. And even worse, I ended up keeping nice players suspended for nothing.
As of today, I officially certify my leave of my RPs and characters, giving control to whoever wants to run them. It's been really a nice experience so far, but I'd be lying like a politician if I said I could keep posting -not to mention that, what with my 1K RAM memory, my lines have become as dull and short as BASIC commands.
I'll keep in touch with the forum in general, I'll keep PMing. And I'll keep an eye for things to translate.
It's been a great time here, folks, really awesome.
Thanks everybody who participated and kept up with this ol' sloth.^^

You will be greatly missed here in the Roleplaying circle Val, but it's an understandable decision. I remember when I first joined some 5-6 years ago and began reading through the vast library that was Blue Peak Shore! It amazes and inspires me to no end how you were able to build a whole island with great NPCs for all of us to enjoy. I've truly had fun in every world that you've built.
It has been a pleasure, and an honor!

Re: Roleplaying Forums Main Out-Of-Character Thread

Post by CyberDragon »

So I've been thinking of starting up a new RP that I'll be GMing alongside Beacon of Hope, and I wanted to check around for interest.

The idea is that it's a semi slice-of-life with quite a big twist: There's a race of people hiding among the population who have the ability to turn themselves into gigantic, strange creatures. Kaiju, for lack of a better word, Giant dragons, sea serpents, insectoids, scaled-up were-creatures, any monster or creature your imagination can conjure. Most of these creatures live in peace among the ordinary people. They live in regular homes, go to regular schools, and make friends with regular people. Most Kaiju only assume their true forms out in remote, isolated areas like mountains, forests, or seas.

Occasionally, however, there are those who grow sick of hiding. Whether they want to be accepted for what they are, they simply feel they shouldn't have to play nice with the "inferior" people, they can't control themselves, or they're wild and see regular people as food. These Kaiju assume their true forms in populated areas, resulting in panic, havoc, and destruction. The other Kaiju in the area must then confront the rogue and either fight them or bring them to their senses.

Players can play as ordinary people, Kaiju, or have a character in each category. Anthropomorphic characters would be allowed, but I haven't decided if it's mostly aesthetic or if they have deeper animal traits. I'll probably ask players.

That is the premise. Usually, it's slice of life. Occasionally though, there will be a rogue kaiju that needs dealing with, or a plot to trigger war or shatter the shaky peace between the Kaiju and the regular people.

The idea is this game is somewhere between RGV and BoH, with it's mostly slice-of-life plot with powers found in RGV, but with occasional fights between giant monsters that is more often found in BoH.

I've asked around, and already found a couple people interested. So I wanted to ask if anyone else would be interested in a game like this?

This seems like a good idea but will the kaiju be anthropromorphic in a sense where the people change into well these anthropromorphic figures, or would the just turn into random mythical creatures?
Overall this is a great idea!

You would be allowed to design both the Kaiju form and the hidden form of your Kaiju character. The hidden form must be able to reasonably blend in with the human and anthropomorphic population. The Kaiju form will have it's own set of rules to avoid godmoding, but has a lot of freedom. If you just want the Kaiju form to be a scaled up anthropomorphic character then I don't really have a problem. That said, I encourage you to make their appearance different from their hidden form so that people don't recognize them in said hidden form. I also encourage you to make it a little bit more monstrous.

The Kaiju are also big. Very big. The smallest ones in their Kaiju form would be the size of a large house, while larger ones reach the size of skyscrapers. This is part of what drives the conflict between them and the ordinary population.

It's also kind of what separates the Kaiju genre from any other monster genre.

I want to join this so bad, and I already have a character in mind, but I really don’t want to spread my energy across three RPs. If I get tired of Explorers or Beacon I’ll absolutely join, but for now, nope.

I'll be making the OOC tomorrow. I just have a few things to iron out. The setting and mechanics, for example.

You know, just little things. XP

I do want to join at some point, because I have an idea for a character that combines two of my favorite interpretations of the Simurgh, and whose powers are based around being an below average threat to monsters, but an absolute nightmare to humans. Literally, his powers involve something that quite a lot of people have nightmares over.

That does sound interesting, and I'd be fascinated to hear more about it.

On another note, I think I'm going to base the setting in a fictional city that takes some heavy inspiration from San Francisco. Partly because I love that city, and partly because it's in the top three cities most often attacked by Kaiju in fiction. :P

I thought of the same thing. XD

It makes sense that would pop up. Kaiju are a Japanese concept, originally, and I'm basing the setting off of San Francisco. San Fransokyo is the combination of Tokyo Japan and San Francisco.

For the most part, yeah.

Disguised Kaiju actually make up a decent chunk of the population. About 5%. That might not seem like much, but consider that it means that 1 in 20 people you meet in the city is actually a giant monster in disguise.

Most Kaiju live quiet lives and work 9-5 jobs like everyone else. Some, if they're not raised by other Kaiju, might go most of their lives never realizing that they are one. There are hints that a person is a disguised Kaiju though, so they tend to figure it out as they grow up.

Hey, sorry for posting again, but Sean and I are trying to resuscitate the Housepets Z game.

For the new players who have joined recently, Houspets Z is a zombie survival game where you join one of many groups. These groups grant you different resources and skills. Players use these resources to rescue survivors, find weapons and supplies, fight the undead, and survive. Despite being a zombie survival game, things aren't so bleak. Survivors have set up decent encampments and towns, and have set up trade with other accessible towns. You can go explore the ruined city and pave the way for the rebirth of civilization!

If anyone would like to join up, check the game out in it's OOC.

She mentioned that she had lost interest in the comic. She ended up abandoning her fan projects, and stated that the RPs were the only reason she still visited the forum.

Then the RPs stagnated for a while during the holidays.

I think she took that as a chance to move on. She might not have said anything to either avoid making a big deal out of it, or to avoid us trying to pressure her into staying.

That said, I don't know for sure. I've been trying to find Buster on FA or on Discord, but I haven't had any luck. If anyone knows how to contact her outside of the forum... I'd just like to check up on her.

Speaking of moved on I'd like to throw in my hat to GM Zootopia. Topics been ghosting for awhile with no clear direction and I want to see if I can do something with it. If Pecan would be okay with that. I haven't heard from them in awhile and tbh there is not enough posting or interest in the topic from it's current player base for me not to say anything about it.
