You're the pleasant, non-creepy kind, otherwise there weren't many non-furries here, myself included.Dissension wrote:I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that we appreciate that.

You may have a mild aversion to furries, but everyone loves the local ones. ;p

I don't mind non-housepets furries. I do not approve of the darker side to the furry fandom, of course, which most non-housepets furries dabble in but as long as they do not bother me I have no personal issues against them.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
That's a pretty strong generalization. I'd say it's very likely that's not true. The only reason it seems like there are more is because they're so much more vocal than the rest.MilesKingford wrote:I do not approve of the darker side to the furry fandom, of course, which most non-housepets furries dabble in

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
I stated this because it seems to be the consensus, research studies I have viewed and other non-housepets furries I have spoken to have stated that there seems to be more furries dabbling in that particular area than there are those who don't, this is because certain...individuals join the fandom purely to exploit and expand the darker side of the fandom to satisfy their...desires without having any real interest in anthropomorphic animals. I wish I could be more positive but I am just stating what the reality of the situation seems to be.Sleet wrote:That's a pretty strong generalization. I'd say it's very likely that's not true. Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
The studies are based off of voluntary surveys, so the furries taking them are going to be the more vocal ones. It's hard to tell exactly how large that sampling bias is, but I have a feeling it's very significant.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
The studies I have seen stated that they used personal observations rather than one-to-one surveys because most (if not all) furry groups have a policy to not deal with "outsiders" as a measure of discouraging negative campaigns by the media. Until the furry groups open themselves up to the public then we may never know for certain how widespread the darker side of the fandom is.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
I would actually trust those even less, because there will be a massive sampling bias there, even greater than that of a voluntary online survey.
My logic is just that the true creepy percentage can only be lower than the perceived value, and considering both the fact that the stigma scares a ton of furries away (it scared me away for the longest time) and that online communities and conventions tend to mostly attract more serious fans, and that the creepy furries probably are significantly more often "serious" furries than they are "casual" furries, it is my guess that the sampling bias is actually large enough to give the opposite conclusion.
Almost a guaranteed fact: even the most reputable sources will mistake the proportion of creepy furries as larger than it really is
My belief: the true proportion is in reality smaller than 50%.

Miles, we do not bring up this topic on this forum; the last three times it came up, it resulted in a thread lock.
You and Sleet should stop arguing about this while you're both ahead.

That's a great species to like. Foxes; what beautiful, noble creatures! *salutes*
I've always loved foxes too. As far as I can remember, Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog was the start of my fox obsession, and I played Sonic 2 waaay back when.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
Likely Charlie the Australian Shepard dog (which is funny, since he doesn't live on Earth, but rather in a land I like to call Adienth), who is one of my more recent characters. Though young, he has the capability to use magic. He is bonded via mind with his long-time friend Sam. I tend to pretend they exist, and I like to have "conversations" with them in my mind in order to define their character. Call me crazy, but it works.
(Also, wouldn't it be a better idea to discuss this on another, more relevant topic. Not to mini-mod, of course...)

Pretty much anything furry seems to be on topic here. Otherwise everyone would just say "yes" or "no" and then the thread would die and newer members wouldn't see it and vote.
Yeah, why don't you go take damage from a boss and not instantly recover or something.Dubiousity wrote:Hedgehogs are cooler.

On a side note, Hyenas are just as cool as foxes and hedgehogs.
