Thanks, guys!

As I've said here, Lyttle Lytton is an immensely funny archive of writing talent. It's also a good exercise for your creative brainmeat, trying to emulate the style of a fictitious inept writer. Because:

"Creativity," Tom mused, "is the art of finding the possible in the impossible," as he bought extra chocolate for the kids.

today in strange coincidences: apparently Douglas Collier and I lived in the same city at the same time within walking distance of our elementary school where the mascot was a dolphin. but it was 2 different schools 12 miles apart.

Ugh - my experience riding the train cross county so far hasn't been all that fun. It's just like riding in a very turbulent airplane - but takes 5 times longer. =P Plus the person next to me is a heavy snorer. >.<

Heh heh.

You'll survive Douglas. I've ridden buses for distances similar to what you're doing. It's not the most fun in the world, but it'll eventually end.

As much as I like seeing the ground shrink before my eyes, it feels a lot less claustrophobic on a train, even on long distances.

Me neither - it's much faster. I'd rather be cooped up in an airplane for a few hours than an only slightly bigger train seat for a couple days.

You do know that your car is statistically drastically less safe than an airplane, yes? You are far more likely to die driving to the airport (1 in 5,000) than on the plane flight itself (1 in 11,000,000).

I never took a flight in my life, but I'm being really motivated and curious to do this experience. :)

Absolutely, happen way more deaths by moving on the ground than in the air.

As land mammals we probably have a deeprooted affinity towards ground travel as opposed to flying, or maybe it's simply that we ourselves are in control while driving most of the time.

yeah, that's probably it. Craig Ferguson got over his fear of flying by getting a Pilot's License. Planes are mostly a mystery to us as far as the technical workings, so we don't know what's done to keep us safe. meanwhile we know cars, we know the safety equipment, we know what can go wrong with them.

Can you imagine drunk piloting? Not only do you have to contend with slow reactions, but if you decide to go down, that feeling of weightlessness is going to mess you up something awful.

I became acclimated to flight at a very young age, never had problems with strapping myself inside a giant flying cylinder ever since.

The safest transportation devices are elevators, about nobody dies in those. A problem that you might have with them is that they only bring you up and down...

Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life The Universe & Everything

Post by dtlux1 »

I would like to go on a train more than an airplane, but I think I have multiple reasons for that. The first is that I was really addicted to trains for about the first 12 years of my life, and I still like to look at them once in a while. Another reason is because I think it would be more fun. I may have a slight fear of flying, but I don't have a problem with the idea. I'd go if it was someplace out of this time zone, and I probably wouldn't have any fear after the first time, but I still have a very small fear. Not as much as other people I know though, my sister says she refuses to ever go on a plane.

You know, I've had this curiosity as to what would happen if one ran into a curb at full speed - would it flip over?

Smart cars are pretty durable from what I've heard, they do a pretty good job of the crumpling around you part than the crumpling into you.

Chances are if you ran into a curb at full speed, you'd go up it. Just like most cars.
