True, that is correct. I will restate though. Facts are things that can be tested or have recorded evidence that are both accepted and have yet to be proven untrue.

The fact that this post exists proves that something must have posted it. Therefore, something that uses the name "yehoshua" does, indeed, exist. However, I can't prove whether you're a person, a computer program, or just a cat with statistically improbable typing abilities. :3yehoshua wrote:The fact is that I am inexistant until proven otherwise.

Does that mean that everyone else is a figment of one's own imagination? that is... an unnerving way to look at things.

I was really existential as a kit.
I like how this is becoming a "thing." I really do. *giggles*CaptainPea wrote:I don't think so.Vespier Leo wrote:In all actuallity, facts are mearly things that are yet to be proven untrue.
By that definition, Sleet is both a human and a cat that randomly walks on a keyboard and, by chance, produces coherent messages, since I can't disprove either at this moment.

Only if there were local news stations to cover themCoffeeJunkie wrote:And I think they would?
I'm pretty sure everyone was like that, and most people still carry questions like that around, mostly because they are slightly difficult to answer. There's a reason why we don't understand some things even though we've had a few thousand years of progress to come up with some ideas.Sleet wrote:I was really existential as a kit.

Re: Captain Pea's Fantabulastic Thread For To Chat In
It dosen't matter that humanity has had thousands of years to figure things out. There are some things that we may never truly know the answers to. There are some things that may never really have an answer to begin with and there are always more questions that come from every answer.
Re: Captain Pea's Fantabulastic Thread For To Chat In
Such as if a tree falls in the middle of a forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it generate any sound?
Why yes, of course it generates sound. The fact that someone is uncapable of percepting something does not mean it is not there.

If a tree falls in the forest, and lands on a mime, does anyone care?yehoshua wrote:Such as if a tree falls in the middle of a forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it generate any sound?
That reality cannot exist independent of perception is a more popular idea than you might initially believeyehoshua wrote:Why yes, of course it generates sound. The fact that someone is uncapable of percepting something does not mean it is not there.

This means that nothing happened before the invention of the camra then? Odd... That is a bit of a limited way of looking at things....

If nothing happened until a picture was taken of it, how was the camera invented? They couldn't take a picture while inventing the camera so how can we know!?Vespier Leo wrote:yehoshua wrote:Or in more understandable terms "pics or it didn't happen".

It's not that nothing happened, it's that we can't prove anything happened. Not like you can prove a picture is real, though.yehoshua wrote:If nothing happened until a picture was taken of it, how was the camera invented? They couldn't take a picture while inventing the camera so how can we know!?
In other news, it seems a small group of degenerates is playing wheelchair bowling in the street outside my house.
Given that it's almost tomorrow, this irritates me a bit.

Cotal. that has to be one ofthe strangest things I have heard today. you have piqued my interest.
Re: Captain Pea's Fantabulastic Thread For To Chat In
It looks like one of them is in a wheel chair, and he's having the others shove him into traffic cones. Or... something. "Wheelchair bowling" was the best approximation I could come up with. And it irritates me because a) they're shouting at the top of their lungs as they do this, and b) it's about 11:15 at night.

In my town this would be considered a very calm evening. Many loud and not well thoughtout things happen in a college town at night. Like climbing lightpolls and trying to swing on powerlines.... Yes I have seen this happen.Coatl_Ruu wrote:It looks like one of them is in a wheel chair, and he's having the others shove him into traffic cones. Or... something. There are some people somewhere around my neighborhood who always set off fireworks for any occasion that might possibly merit them. This wouldn't really matter if a) They wouldn't do it at 10 PM and b) it was legal.Coatl_Ruu wrote:It looks like one of them is in a wheel chair, and he's having the others shove him into traffic cones. Oh, and once we had a major transformer go out nearby, on my birthday no less, and so we were treated to a great display of colorful lights sporadically flashing through the snowed over neighborhood. It was pretty spectacular, although it caused our power to go out for five days, so there's that.

My friends always shoot fireworks off in a creek. Which is fine, but sometimes they don't even want to see a professional show. I wish they did. It's been kind of a tradition for me, and I don't have a family anymore that I can fall back on.
