Yes we are... or at least comparatively speaking we are.

Normal people are just as weird though if you take into consideration all of those extremests in all the groups of humanity though.

I asked before: would a catlike furry alien count for the question "what are you?"

Sure it would!

How does this alien differ from a regular anthropomorphic cat?

Not really. Furries are inherently weird. It's just not really a bad kind of weird unless you're an extreme one.

Well; its not sleeping all day, but mostly washing themselves with water (yes water, not like regular cats),
They're fantastic allies, but if you ever become an enemy just once, you'll never gain their trust
and they'll fight all your kind with a horribly fierce aggression.
..............
You know, it takes about an A-4 page to speak of all their aspects... I usually imagine my aliens in full.

Sounds like a pretty normal anthropomorph. Part of anthropomorphism is strategically replacing animal features with human ones, after all.

Of course, anthropomorphs and aliens are hardly mutually exclusive.

Well, I've got 2 other catlikes that have different aspects of the cat we know...
(the Kirk Cats and the Ancients).
But yeah, you could say there's no real difference in them and anthro stuff, it
would just feel more personal if I chose my own catlike, I guess.

Aliens are more likely to be lumped into the sci-fi fandom than the furry fandom by the general public.

From my experience, usually. It's easier to acccept from the stand point of science fiction, so that's how people usually see it.

Then... what about TwoKinds (fantasy) and Dream Keepers (sci-fi/fantasy)? They're both furry.

Both webcomics haven't explained their furry characters as aliens. They're just furry characters. Also, both comics primarily advertise the furry aspects of themselves.

Well, different species, or people from a different dimension (especially that one) come very close to sci-fi already,
the only thing that would be different is the fact that they don't have amazing tech with warp flying ships (actually DK has amazing tech, for one; the telepad or
the holonet etc...)

If they look like animals that are also people, they're furry. Sometimes people justify them being aliens as an excuse to avoid that label, but they're still furry.

Well, that wasn't my point; Brawler here stated that, despite the fact you'd have furries from another planet (you know, animal like
aliens) wouldn't be classed as furries, and I tried proving him wrong.

The problem with that point is that you're talking from the viewpoint of a furry. All I said was that a general internet user who's not affiliated with a fandom would group them as aliens if it was a sci-fi. Of course, it also depends on how prevalent the "furry" characters are in the story; there much more likely to be considered furries if their race is the main race.

A furry story doesn't have to be a story for furries.

Plus, people called the Na'vi furries. If humans call them that, they'll call anything animal-like furry.

Well, they're cat people, whether they're actually covered in fur or not.

They aren't furries in my book, but people see the tails, and they assume.

No. Half the time my avatar is my fursona, and the other half of the time my avatar is a character from a webcomic I like.

I generally believe "furry" would also stand for an alien were it animal-like,
so this subject saying that aliens can't be furries I find just knit-picking :/ .

They're people who intentionally look like combinations of humans and another animal - That's what a furry is, on a basic level.

Well, maybe it's just me, but I always see feline features in the Na'vi - The nose and tail are most obvious, but the ears and also general facial structure have that look.

I dunno, maybe. They're not that furry if they are, though.

I bet James Cameron would reject that label in a heartbeat, just like he did "science fiction."

To be fair, there are a lot of mixed feelings surrounding furries - whether or not Cameron felt his work qualified as such, that alone would be a reason for denying it, as a lot of professionals likely would.

Ok, I'll be very dry: Na'Vi = Animimic Humanoid, intelligence level: Mark 7.5
Housepets! stuff: Alternate reality/subdimension Anamoid, intelligence level: 5.0
Now I wonder how this conversation is going to go after I said that.

It doesn't make for interesting conversation to say things just to see how people will react, especially if its a topic that you're not interested in.

I'm not a furry.
